Report: Thiago Alves Injured, Out of UFC Copenhagen Co-Main vs. Gunnar Nelson
Unfortunately due to very unexpected illness I am forced to withdraw from this fight. My focus now is to get 100% healthy so I can get back to do what I love. I should be back in the octagon November/December. Thanks @ufc and @seanshelby for opportunity to chase my dreams. Osss https://t.co/Ig4mjmPpyC

On Thursday, MMAJunkie.com reported that Thiago Alves (23-14) will no longer be competing at UFC Fight Night 160 in September against Gunnar Nelson (17-4-1). According to MMAJunkie, Alves suffered a currently undisclosed injury, and it is not clear when he will be able to return. The organization is currently seeking a replacement for Alves.
Alves has now withdrawn from a whopping nine Ultimate Fighting Championship bouts, more than any other recorded fighter in the promotion's history. Some of the reasons he has been forced to pull out of fights include illnesses, various injuries, travel complications from an ensuing hurricane and even a brain irregularity prior to meeting Jon Fitch at UFC 111 in 2010.
Nelson has alternated wins and losses in his last four outings, most recently dropping a split decision to the surging Leon Edwards in March. Seven of his eight victories inside the Octagon have come by submission, and each of those seven within the first two rounds.
UFC Fight Night 160 will take place on Sept. 28 at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark. Headlining the event is a middleweight affair between Jack Hermansson and Jared Cannonier.
