Frank Camacho: To ‘Crank’ or Not to ‘Crank’?

Sign up for ESPN+ right here, and you can then stream the UFC live on your smart TV, computer, phone, tablet or streaming device via the ESPN app.

Frank Camacho has a bit of a predicament when he steps back into the Octagon. He has lost four of six in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, but has also won three fight night bonuses. Another loss could put his job security in question. However, for a promotion that seems to appreciate action fighters, he might be in better standing than others in his position. So, it begs the question; should Camacho maintain his pace and aim for a possible safety net bonus or alter his style and make sure he gets a win. In his mind, he believes the blending of old and new at Team Oyama has is his best path forward.

“I’m so lucky that Colin [Oyama] and Team Oyama have not changed my fighting style at all. They’ve actually helped me with techniques to compliment my fight style. So, all I’ve got to do is bring “The Crank” and trust in the training, and trust in the drilling sessions that we’ve been doing for months and weeks.”

In his conversation with Sherdog, the 31-year-old talked in-depth about the learning experience of his October submission loss to Beneil Dariush, and how he plans to apply the lessons from his UFC failures towards getting a win over Matt Frevola at UFC on ESPN 11.
