Checking in with PFL’s Marthin Hamlet

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship veteran Marthin Hamlet (7-1) scored a successful debut in Professional Fighters League’s 2021 Regular Season. Hamlet took on Bellator MMA alum Dan Spohn (18-8), trapping him into an arm-triangle choke. The referee broke the squeeze 52 seconds into the second round at PFL 2. While talking with Sherdog, Hamlet stated that he didn’t notice his opponent was out before the referee’s intervention.

“When I was going for it, I felt like he was struggling a little bit, so I was thinking, ‘Yeah, maybe he will take some cardio out of him, that he will be more tired,’” he added. “I didn’t even push, you know, I didn’t squeeze, so it was just my shoulders and my weight that did it. Then, I heard he was breathing a little heavy, and then I remember he was punching one [time], and then I felt like, ‘Oh, nothing [is happening].’ Then the referee stopped me.”

In this exclusive interview, which was filmed before it was announced that he would be fighting Cezar Ferreira on June 17, Hamlet also talked about moving his camps to the U.S., his only defeat against Modestas Bukauskas, his reasons for signing with PFL and much more.
