UFC 242 Bonuses: Four 'Performance of the Night' Awards Handed Out
UFC
242 was the first of a five-year agreement that will see the
Octagon touch down in Abu Dhabi on a yearly basis. The card saw
some highlight-reel finishes and incredible fights. Because of
that, the Las Vegas-based promotion decided to go with four
"Performances of the Night" bonuses and no "Fight of the
Night."
Khabib Nurmagomedov secured an extra $50,000 for his third-round submission victory over Dustin Poirier. With the win, he successfully defended his Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight title for the second time and improved to 28-0 overall.
Next up, Ottman Azaitar received a bonus for his highlight-reel knockout over Teemu Packalen. The knockout came in the very first round and a well-placed right hook put his opponent to sleep. The win improved him to 12-0. Meanwhile, on the prelims, Belal Muhammad's third-round submission win over Takashi Sato earned him an extra $50,000. The final bonus went to Muslim Salikhov, who like Azaitar, knocked out his opponent with one punch as he dispatched Nordine Taleb.
