Steven Peterson Calls UFC Mexico City Knockout One of the ‘Greatest of All-Time’

Steven Peterson returned to the win column in a big way at UFC Mexico City. He was on a two-fight losing streak entering his matchup with Martin Bravo, and if he lost, his roster spot in the UFC might have been gone.

“It was a major possibility, Losing that fight was not an option,” he said to Sherdog.com. “I was going to win or die. It was a kill or die type situation, I was willing to do whatever it took.”

Peterson ended up knocking Bravo out by a spinning backfist in the second round. It was a highlight-reel finish that earned him a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus. He believes it is one of the greatest knockouts of all-time.

“One hundred percent. I believe it is the first ever reverse spinning backfist knockout,” he said. “Nobody has shown me another one and there are only seven spinning backfist knockouts in the UFC. That is up there with the greatest of all-time.”

“Ocho” expected to finish the fight, although maybe not in such spectacular fashion.

“It is a relief. But, that is exactly what I expected,” he said. “Not the spinning backfist, but I knew I would finish the fight and break him in the second or third round. I didn’t see it coming like that.”
