RFA 42 Weigh-in Results: Giagos, Estrazulas Cleared for Brawl
Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts promotion
Resurrection Fighting Alliance will invade the Visalia
Convention Center in Visalia, Calif., on Friday night and it should
be an entertaining card. RFA
42 will be anchored by former lightweight champion Christos
Giagos taking on Arthur
Estrazulas Vianna and at Thursday’s weigh-ins, both combatants
cleared weight to make the fight official.
Giagos, a Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran, is the first man to ever capture the RFA lightweight title. He did so by conquering Dakota Cochrane in the second with a crushing flying knee and follow-up punches at RFA 17 but after going just 1-2 inside the Octagon, “The Spartan” returned to the RFA last month and knocked out Karen Darabedyan in the first. He’s looking to use Estrazulas as a springboard back into the big time and on the scale, he looked as ready as could be. Giago checked in officially at 154.8 pounds.
Estrazulas is coming off an impressive string of stoppages in lower-tier MMA promotions, though one of his wins was a second-round submission of UFC vet Chris Tickle. The Brazilian submission savant showed great power in his bout where he flattened Daniel Vasquez with a series of knees in the opening round back in June and now that he’s fighting in a prominent main event on short notice, he needs to make the most of his opportunity. He passed the final test on Thursday, tipping the scale at 155.4 pounds.
RFA 42 will be televised live on AXS TV starting at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT on Aug. 19.
Ray Elizalde (125.6) vs. Alex Perez (125.8)
Cody Bollinger (156) vs. Anthony Avila (155.8)
Davi Ramos (159) vs. Mike Flach (158)
Shai Lindsey (124.8) vs. Steve Gruber (125)
Tommy Aaron (144.4) vs. Adin Duenas (145.4)
Anthony Castrejon (130.2) vs. Anthony Torres (128.6)
