Usman has been banging on the door for a while for a shot at the welterweight belt held by Tyron Woodley and the Nigerian can make a convincing case with an emphatic victory over Dos Anjos. “The Nigerian Nightmare” recently spoke to MMA Weekly’s Damon Martin claiming he’s out to make a statement against the Brazilian and put himself in contention for a shot at Woodley.
“I am the best welterweight in the world,” Usman said. “I am the most dangerous guy in that division. That’s why people don’t want to call my name. That’s why people don’t want to fight me. When I have the belt, of course in order to get that belt, they’re going to have to fight me. So that’s what I need. I need to go out there and make that statement.”
Usman is currently riding a 12-fight winning streak with his most recent win coming via a unanimous decision victory over Demian Maia.
The Brazilian dos Anjos is hoping to bounce back from his frustrating loss to Colby Covington where the American controlled the entire fight using his wrestling barely allowing he former lightweight champ to mount any attack of his own.
