A heavyweight showdown between training partners Alistair Overeem and Andrei Arlovski will headline the UFC Fight Night event in the Netherlands on May 8.
While the UFC has yet to officially announce the bout, both Overeem and Arlovski recently confirmed the pairing on their respective Instagram accounts. UFC Fight Night will take place at Ahoy Rotterdam in Rotterdam, Netherlands and will also include a heavyweight tilt pitting Stefan Struve against Antonio Silva, according to multiple reports.
Overeem and Arlovski both train at Jackson-Wink MMA in Albuquerque, N.M. MMAFighting.com reported on Saturday that the heavyweights will work out at different times with different coaches at the renowned gym, and Greg Jackson will corner Arlovski on fight night.
Overeem recently re-signed with the Las Vegas-based promotion after becoming a free agent following his second-round technical knockout win against Junior dos Santos at UFC on Fox 17 in December. The 35-year-old Amsterdam native has won his last three fights in the Octagon, besting dos Santos, Roy Nelson and Struve in succession.
Arlovski had a six-fight winning streak halted in emphatic fashion at UFC 195, where he was stopped in 54 seconds by fellow contender Stipe Miocic. The Belarusian’s recent resurgence included triumphs over Frank Mir, Travis Browne, Antonio Silva and Brendan Schaub in UFC competition.
