Several injuries have affected Maximum Fighting Championship’s Jan. 17 card, resulting in two new MFC 39 bookings.

After originally pairing Chase Degenhardt with Ryan Chiappe, the Canadian promotion has substituted the contest with a catchweight affair between Mehdi Baghdad and Sean Powers after both Degenhardt and Chiappe were forced to withdraw.

Additionally, a scheduled fight between Derek Boyle and Aaron Gallant has been scratched from the MFC 39 lineup due to a Gallant injury. That slot will now be filled by a lightweight bout pitting Andrew McInnes against Dan Ring.

MFC 39 takes place at Northlands Expo Center in Edmonton, Alberta, and is topped by a pair of championship encounters, as Anthony Hamilton defends his heavyweight strap against Darrill Schoonover and Kurt Southern battles Tom Gallicchio for the vacant lightweight title.

The evening’s main card airs live on AXS TV and will also see Sean O’Connell take on former light heavyweight ruler return Victor Valimaki, while “Ultimate Fighter” alum Gilbert Smith battles ex-middleweight title challenger Jason South.
