Promotion officials recently announced the pairing. CES MMA 50 takes place at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I., and will air on AXS TV. Paiva and Ewell will compete for the belt that was vacated when previous champion Andre Soukhamthath – Paiva’s teammate – signed with the UFC.
The entirety of Paiva’s 17-bout professional tenure has occurred inside the CES MMA cage. “Sweetbread” enters the contest on a four-fight winning streak, which includes a unanimous decision victory over Kevin Barberena in his most recent outing on Feb 2. Paiva, a Rhode Island native, owns an 11-6 career mark that includes eight triumphs inside the distance.
It’s hard to put into words what this title would mean to me,” Paiva said in a release. “This is an opportunity that you dream about and look forward to for your whole career. Now that the title is finally on the line, I can’t wait to rise to the occasion to bring the belt home, and to keep the crown in New England.”
Ewell, 30, has been victorious in seven of his last eight professional appearances. “Afro Monkey” last competed at Legacy Fighting Alliance 36, where he knocked out Trent Meaux in the opening stanza. Ewell is 12-4 since beginning his pro career in 2015. He fought seven times in 2017.
