ESPN announced on Wednesday night that the promotion is going to hold an event on July 15. The card, which falls on a Wednesday, does not currently have a location, although it is speculate to be on “Fight Island,” and one fight has been listed for it. At women’s strawweight, Carla Esparza (16-6) takes on the unbeaten Marina Rodriguez (12-0-2), and it is unclear how high on the billing this fight will be listed.

Esparza is riding a three-fight win streak, the longest since joining the UFC in 2014 following her stint on Season 20 of “The Ultimate Fighter.” Most recently, Esparza captured a split verdict over Michelle Waterson in May at UFC 249. In victory, “Cookie Monster” joined a small number of fighters over the years that have won three consecutive decisions in different fashions, as she took a unanimous decision over Virna Jandiroba and a majority decision against Alexa Grasso before facing Waterson.

Rodriguez is coming off of a draw against Cynthia Calvillo in December, which was the second majority draw in her last four fights. The prospect signed from the Brazilian version of Dana White's Contender Series has never tasted defeat as a professional. In addition to her two UFC draws, the Brazilian took home unanimous scorecards against Jessica Aguilar and Tecia Torres in 2019.
