Antonio Carvalho’s return to action will be delayed, as the Canadian’s fight against Chris Gruetzemacher at WSOF 18 has been canceled.

World Series of Fighting officials Wednesday informed Sherdog.com of the scratch. The NBC Sports Network-televised event takes place at Northlands Expo Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, and is headlined by a bantamweight title fight featuring Marlon Moraes against Josh Hill.

Carvalho was supposed to face Gruetzemacher in the card’s co-feature, but after “Gritz” withdrew with an undisclosed injury, Carvalho decided not to take on a new opponent since he was fighting off a lingering injury as well.

A lightweight bout pitting Shane Campbell against Derek Boyle will now serve as the show’s co-main event.

A four-time Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran, “Pato” was last in action against Darren Elkins at UFC 158, a fight he lost via technical knockout. With the defeat, Carvalho’s mark inside the Octagon dropped to 2-2 and he was subsequently released by the Las Vegas-based promotion.
