Jason Saggo vs. Josh Shockley

Round 1

Both lightweights probe with punches and front kicks, testing the range, until 40 seconds in when Saggo presses forward to clinch on the fence. He tosses Shockley to the ground and nearly takes full mount, but Shockley pushes him back to half guard. As Saggo stacks him up, Shockley swings his legs around to try an armbar. Saggo shucks off the submission attempt and passes to side control, then to full mount with three minutes left in the round. Shockley powers back to his feet and takes the outside position in the clinch, working Saggo with a couple short knees and stomps. Saggo hits a trip and follows Shockley down to set up in half guard. Shockley rolls to his knees, nearly has his back taken and turns over again. When Shockley turtles up again, Saggo unloads with ground-and-pound from back mount. Shockley isn’t defending himself enough for referee Jerin Valel, who stops the fight seconds before the end of the round.

The Official Result

Jason Saggo def. Josh Shockley via TKO (Punches) R1 4:57

Roland Delorme vs. Michinori Tanaka

Round 1

Delorme takes the center of the cage as the right-handers square off in the opening moments, with Tanaka bouncing around the perimeter, looking for an opening. Tanaka strikes first with a low kick and slips out of the way of Delorme’s return fire. Delorme sidesteps and brushes off the Japanese fighter as Tanaka shoots in for a double-leg. Ninety seconds in, Delorme catches a kick and shoves Tanaka to the ground. Delorme lands in full mount, but Tanaka hits a nifty sweep almost instantly. Now on his back, Delorme begins to fish for a triangle choke. Tanaka breaks the posture, and Delorme receives a warning from referee Yves Lavigne for grabbing the cage as he tries to reposition himself. Delorme posts and works to stand up, so Tanaka yanks the legs out from under him and keeps the Canadian on his back. Tanaka sends some slicing elbows through Delorme’s guard, though Delorme is doing well to cover up and avoid any real damage. The bantamweights move away from the fence, where both men land short elbows in the closing moments.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Tanaka
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Delorme
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Tanaka

Round 2

Both men connect with stiff jabs in the opening moments of round two, and then Delorme throws up his arms in frustration as Tanaka continues to hop around just outside of range. Tanaka doesn’t take the bait and keeps his matador act going until 90 seconds into the round, when he pushes Delorme against the fence for another takedown. Again, Delorme stays busy from his back but can’t escape from Tanaka’s heavy top pressure. Tanaka thumps Delorme’s body with a left and pulls him away from the fence. Delorme keeps a deep half guard as Tanaka works to pass over into side control. Tanaka keeps the pressure on, landing sporadic ground-and-pound, and eventually opens a cut underneath Delorme’s right eye with an elbow.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Tanaka
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Tanaka
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Tanaka

Round 3

Tanaka goes back to his lateral movements while Delorme stays relatively flat-footed in the center, feinting and lunging with punches which the Japanese fighter evades. Tanaka lands a leg kick, then moves in to clinch. Delorme turns his back and gets tossed to the ground again; he tries to flip Tanaka over the top and gets a warning from referee Lavigne for grabbing Tanaka’s shorts. Delorme sits up and Tanaka tries to take the back, allowing Delorme to turn around and push the Japanese fighter to the canvas. Delorme takes full mount and lands a couple elbows, but that’s all he can manage before Tanaka bucks and rolls him over. Midway through the round, the fighters are back in the familiar position with Tanaka on top, dropping ground-and-pound through Delorme’s guard. Tanaka moves to full mount with 90 seconds remaining, gets pushed back to half guard. Delorme elevates with butterfly guard and manages to get to his feet for a brief moment, but Tanaka stays all over him and finishes the fight on Delorme’s back.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Tanaka (30-27 Tanaka)

Kajan Johnson vs. Tae Hyun Bang

Round 1

Johnson presses out from the center and clips Bang with a right hook, then Bang hits him back with a jab. When Johnson goes high with a head kick, Bang grabs the leg and nearly shoves him to the ground. One minute in, Johnson hits a single-leg and comes down in side control on Bang’s left. Bang keeps hold of a loose headlock until he’s able to flip Johnson over the top and scramble up. Johnson lands another nice right hook in the next exchange, but Bang seems unfazed as he presses forward and sticks a jab. A left-handed counter from Bang takes the legs out from underneath Johnson, and Bang tries to capitalize with a guillotine. From his knees, Johnson defends, so Bang spins to try and take his kneeling opponent’s back. A leglock attempt from Johnson is enough for Bang to stand up and resume his striking. Johnson shoots for a double, can’t get it and receives a warning from referee John McCarthy for grabbing Bang’s trunks. Johnson puts a kick on Bang’s body, clinches up and trips the Korean fighter to the ground. “Ragin’ Kajan” manages only a few short elbows from side control before the round ends.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Bang
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Bang
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Bang

Round 2

Johnson opens round two with some hard outside leg kicks, but again Bang backs his opponent out of range with stiff jabs. A left-right combination puts Johnson on rubbery legs, so he shoots in for a takedown. Just as in round one, Bang grabs a headlock on his way down and uses it to roll Johnson. Working from Johnson’s half guard, Bang is gushing blood from his nose, the result of an elbow strike from Johnson. The Canadian fighter powers back to his feet, pushes Bang against the cage and drops him down. Bang gets to his knees quickly and then stands. Johnson is pumping his jab now, moving backward out of range as Bang pushes forward. Bang tries a spinning back fist and a flashy kick but comes up empty, and he heads back to his corner breathing heavy with blood dripping down his face.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-10
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Johnson
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Johnson

Round 3

Bang continues to press forward on Johnson, peppering the Canadian with jabs but missing when he winds up for harder punches. Johnson ducks under a punch for a single-leg, gets stuffed and eats another jab. Bang gets into range with a jab, misses with the big follow-up right. Bang catches a left high kick on the shoulder and blasts Johnson with a counter right straight. Johnson crashes to the ground, hitting his head on the canvas as Bang lands on top in full mount. Referee McCarthy rushes in to save the dazed Johnson from any further damage.

The Official Result

Tae Hyun Bang def. Kajan Johnson via KO (Punch) R3 2:01

Mike Easton vs. Yves Jabouin

Round 1

Fifteen seconds into the round, Easton catches a finger in the eye. Referee Kevin Dornan pauses the action and warns Jabouin, and the action resumes after only a few seconds. The bantamweights are throwing heavy in the pocket, and Easton is scoring with his right hand. After taking two or three hard rights to the head, Jabouin changes levels and drives Easton the canvas with a double. Not much action on the ground as Jabouin lays in Easton’s guard and flattens out “The Hulk.” Midway through the round, Easton sits up against the fence and stands. Jabouin takes him back down, but Easton pops up quickly this time. Easton initiates a clinch and tries for a trip takedown; Jabouin thwarts it and instead shoves Easton to the canvas. Jabouin buries his head in Easton’s chest, while Easton keeps an open guard and throws punches from underneath. Easton creates some space and scrambles up, then succeeds in tripping Jabouin to the ground. It’s side control for Easton, leaning right to left across Jabouin and framing up a kimura. Jabouin explodes out of the bad position and the 135ers finish the round trying to strike in close quarters.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Easton
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Jabouin
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Easton

Round 2

Jabouin lands a front kick, but Easton responds with a double-pumped jab. Jabouin stands in the pocket to deliver a thumping body kick and a short uppercut. Jabouin is finding his range now, using longer punches and kicks to keep the smaller man on the outside, punching air. Easton opts to shoot and is stuffed by Jabouin, who tries to spin and take the back of his kneeling opponent. Easton crawls toward the fence with Jabouin hanging all over him, and Jabouin follows as Easton stands up. Jabouin uses a rear waist lock and a trip to put Easton back on the ground, though “The Hulk” gets back on his feet soon after. Jabouin keeps him on the fence to land an uppercut, a high kick upstairs and a spinning kick to the gut. Another uppercut scores for Jabouin, then two big right hooks before another takedown. Again, Jabouin isn’t doing much with top position, and referee Dornan stands up the fighters with 30 seconds to go. Easton is throwing heavy punches but they’re coming up short; Jabouin, meanwhile, stands just out of range and waits to counter with more uppercuts and right hooks.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Jabouin
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Jabouin
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Jabouin

Round 3

Jabouin pushes forward with combinations, lobbing kicks at Easton’s body and punches at his head. Easton sprawls on a shot, hits Jabouin with a right hook and has a spinning back fist deflect off the Canadian’s gloves. Easton initiates a clinch on the fence, but it’s Jabouin who grabs the Thai plum and drives a couple knees up the center. A knee to the body scores for Jabouin as he circles off the cage. Halfway through the final round, Jabouin drives Easton to the mat with a double-leg. Easton gets a deep kimura from underneath and uses it to sweep with about 90 seconds remaining. Jabouin frees his arm but finds himself in north-south position with Easton fishing for a choke. Easton moves to Jabouin’s guard with 20 seconds left, and that’s where the fight ends.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Jabouin (29-28 Jabouin)
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Easton (29-28 Jabouin)

Valerie Letourneau vs. Elizabeth Phillips

Round 1

Letourneau charges at Phillips and gets pushed back with a combination. Phillips comes in to clinch on the fence but can’t hold Letourneau there. The American lands a nice jab, has a high kick blocked, and then comes over the top with a left. Ninety seconds in, Letourneau is sporting some redness around her left eye. Phillips keeps pressing into the pocket and gets tagged with a right hand from Letourneau. Phillips is targeting the rapidly swelling left eye of Letourneau with left hands around the outside. Letourneau fends her off with a left high kick, but only momentarily, as Phillips walks right back in to deliver more right hands. Letourneau denies a shot, and both women throw flurries of punches inside, though neither seems to land anything clean. Letourneau takes back a little ground in the final minute, catching Phillips with a couple uppercuts and then touching her with a left high kick that lands foot-on-temple.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Letourneau
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Phillips
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Phillips

Round 2

Letourneau’s left eye is almost swollen shut as round two begins. Referee Jerin Valel warns both women to keep their hands closed when punching. Phillips brings the fight to the fence with an underhook but can’t find the leverage to take down the taller Letourneau. The fighters break and Letourneau scores with a pair of snappy punches. Phillips is breathing heavy as Letourneau pops her with a left hook, then steps into the pocket to deliver three or four more quick shots. Letourneau swipes Phillips’ face with another left high kick that just barely misses. Phillips exits the next exchange bleeding from the nose, and now Letourneau catches her leaning to connect with a step-in knee. Letourneau stays countering and catches Phillips coming in with a pair of uppercuts in the closing seconds.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Letourneau
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Letourneau
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Letourneau

Round 3

Phillips shoots for a double-leg right away and gets stuffed, then hit with a knee from Letourneau on the exit. Letourneau is really picking Phillips around now, using knees and punches in the pocket to outland the fatigued American. Phillips misses with a couple arm punches, then opts to close the gap and shove Letourneau against the fence. Letourneau keeps control of Phillips’ left wrist, sends a couple knees up the center and then pushes Phillips’ head back by way of the chin. They separate with 2:15 on the clock. Phillips is staying busy, still slinging punches in Letourneau’s direction, but there’s not much behind them. Letourneau’s work rate has dropped off, too, but she scores with a clean left hook as the fight enters its final 30 seconds. Letourneau lands an uppercut, a right straight and a kick to the body. Phillips gives her a body kick in return and charges in, head down, flailing with punches to the horn.

Kiichi Kunimoto vs. Daniel Sarafian

Round 1

Kunimoto takes the outside, cutting angles and pumping his jab to keep Sarafian out of range. Sarafian takes a low kick and tags Kunimoto with a right hand. Kunimoto comes off the fence to deliver a stiff jab and another hard low kick, then gets double underhooks and pushes Sarafian up against the cage. Sarafian defends the takedown at first but succumbs about two minutes into the round. Kunimoto pulls his head free from a loose guillotine and sets up in Sarafian’s half guard. Kunimoto passes to side control midway through the round, then takes back-mount as Sarafian tries to roll out. With both hooks in, Kunimoto slaps on a deep rear-naked choke. Sarafian tries to pull out his mouthguard, but the choke is tight and the Brazilian is forced to tap out.

The Official Result

Kiichi Kunimoto def. Daniel Sarafian via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R1 2:52

Ovince St. Preux vs. Ryan Jimmo

Round 1

Jimmo opens with an inside leg kick on the southpaw St. Preux, who answers with a hard kick to the Canadian’s midsection. After 30 seconds, referee Kevin Dornan calls for action, and St. Preux obliges by landing a pair of sledgehammer left hands. Another left clips Jimmo before the former MFC champion closes the distance and shoves St. Preux against the cage with an underhook. Jimmo manages to send a couple right hands upstairs before St. Preux turns him around. Jimmo looks for a trip before the 205ers separate, and Jimmo comes away bleeding from the nose. Jimmo switches to the southpaw stance briefly, then back to orthodox to stick a jab in St. Preux’s face. St. Preux lands a left hook, blocks a big right high kick and shoots for a late takedown with 20 seconds left. Jimmo is back up before the horn sounds, evading a pair of left hands from St. Preux.

St. Preux releases the hooks and allows Jimmo to roll to his knees, where St. Preux opens up with punches. As St. Preux rolls his opponent over with a kimura in place, Jimmo verbally submits to referee Dornan, shouting “my arm is broken.”

The Official Result

Ovince St. Preux def. Ryan Jimmo via Submission (Kimura) R2 2:10

Andrei Arlovski vs. Brendan Schaub

Round 1

Arlovski takes the center for the first 20 seconds, then rushes toward Schaub to clinch on the fence, possibly clashing heads in the process. Heavy pressure from Arlovski as he pins Schaub to the cage with over-unders, but the “Pit Bull” isn’t landing any offense, leading referee John McCarthy to call for action. Arlovski stomps at Schaub’s feet before the younger man bursts out of the clinch to tag Arlovski with an overhand right and follow-up left hook. Arlovski clinches with Schaub on the fence and again doesn’t do much with the outside position. When Schaub breaks free, he comes swinging at Arlovski with big right hands, just missing with one over the top. Both guys are swinging for the fences, but both are coming up short. When Schaub gets too close with an overhand right, Arlovski grabs hold and goes back to the clinch. Schaub gets loose in the closing moments, shoots a double and gets sprawled on by Arlovski.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Schaub
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Arlovski
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Schaub

Round 2

Fifteen seconds into the round, Schaub catches a kick on the cup. He’s not badly hurt, and the fight gets back underway after a few seconds. A grazing right hand from Arlovski opens up a small cut underneath Schaub’s left eye. The former UFC champ lands a right hand to the body and a hard left hook upstairs as he closes the distance to clinch with Schaub yet again. Referee McCarthy calls for action almost immediately, but Schaub saves “Big John” the trouble by escaping from the position. Schaub charges at Arlovski with a left hand; Arlovski just misses with the counter right. Arlovski goes to the body with a right hand, eats a left from Schaub in the exchange. Schaub initiates the clinch this time, pressing Arlovski against a cage post as the Vancouver crowd begins to boo. The big men get back to striking with 90 seconds left in the frame, but neither man is letting his hands go. Schaub blasts Arlovski with a lead right uppercut late in the round and then covers up as Arlovski throws out a three-piece combo.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Arlovski
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Schaub
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-10

Round 3

After the fighters clash heads in a close-quarters exchange, referee McCarthy warns both men to mind their head position. When the fight resumes, Arlovski shoves Schaub against the fence, but Schaub reverses the momentum and trips the Belarusian to the ground in the center of the cage. Schaub tries to swim through Arlovski’s guard with punches, but the veteran is covering up and minimizing damage, so Schaub thumps on his body instead. Schaub sits up in Arlovski’s closed guard, dripping blood onto his grounded opponent’s chest while dropping tired punches. Arlovski is finding some success with elbows from underneath until the 90-second mark, when his strikes slow down and Schaub begins getting through with some big hammer fists. Arlovski kicks Schaub away and scrambles up, but Schaub comes right back to shove him against the cage. Arlovski reverses the position and hugs Schaub on the cage for a moment. Schaub shoves him off with 30 seconds remaining and ducks under a right hand from Arlovski to try a late takedown. Schaub lands a right hand from his knees and then keeps swinging after the horn, thankfully missing Arlovski.

Ryan Bader vs. Rafael Cavalcante

Round 1

Bader takes 40 seconds before exploding into a double-leg takedown and driving Cavalcante to the floor. Cavalcante stands up right away and elbows at the thigh of Bader, still glued to his back with a rear waist lock. Bader drags him down, and they come back up again for Bader to knee at the thighs of “Feijao.” They separate halfway through the round and Cavalcante crouches low in the center of the cage, just missing with a huge right hook as Bader backpedals out of range. Bader tries to dip in with long punches to the body, but Cavalcante bounces him back out with a clean counter right. With 80 seconds on the clock, Bader hits another big double-leg and shoves Cavalcante toward the fence. Cavalcante gets to his knees, his right side flush to the cage, and Bader sits up on the other side to deliver some hard left hands to Cavalcante’s head and body. Bader keeps coming and gets a clinch on the fence, but he releases as the 205ers reach a stalemate. Ninety seconds in, Bader tries again and this time completes a double at the base of the fence. Bader knees at Cavalcante’s thighs and posterior as the Brazilian kneels, biding his time before powering back to his feet. Two minutes left in the round, and Cavalcante is creeping forward on Bader flat-footed. Bader digs a right hand to the body, evades a right-handed haymaker.

The next clinch from Bader is quickly broken up by referee Lavigne. Cavalcante stands right in front of Bader and gets taken down again with 2:15 on the clock. Bader stays busy on top, hitting Cavalcante with short punches to the body and the occasional elbow upstairs. It’s nothing to end the fight, but it’s enough to keep the referee from standing up the fighters for the final two minutes.

Tyron Woodley vs. Rory MacDonald

Round 1

MacDonald pushes forward on Woodley, swinging and missing with a leg kick as they near the fence. Woodley digs an underhook in the center of the cage, pushes MacDonald toward the fence and lands a knee to the Canadian’s body. Foot stomps from Woodley now, and a couple more knees to the ribs of MacDonald. Referee John McCarthy tells Woodley to stay busy, and a few seconds later, the welterweights separate. MacDonald just misses with a front kick, clips Woodley with a left hook and turns away a takedown attempt. Woodley comes back to clinch on the cage with two minutes left, holding MacDonald in place with his left arm while punching with his right. MacDonald bursts loose, has a high kick blocked and lands a kick to the body. Woodley catches the last kick and drives MacDonald to the ground, only for “Ares” to stand up again. MacDonald backs Woodley up toward the fence and delivers another body kick, then a right hand to the gut. MacDonald has a right high kick blocked but scores with a crisp body-head combo at the end of the round.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 MacDonald
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 MacDonald
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 MacDonald

Round 2

MacDonald walks Woodley toward the fence and misses by inches with a whipping axe kick. Woodley takes back a little ground with a pair of right hands, but his back is still to the fence, with MacDonald using his reach advantage to score with long kicks and jabs. MacDonald puts a right hand on Woodley’s gut and then bounces a heavy left high kick off his glove. Woodley gets his guard split with a four-punch combo, circles out and resets, still standing right up against the fence. Woodley catches a kick and swings a right hand, but MacDonald takes the leg back and continues to pressure. Woodley is landing the occasional leg kick as he circles to his left. MacDonald is scoring with volume, though, constantly picking at Woodley with jabs, body shots and leg kicks. A jab snaps back Woodley’s head, then a right hand comes over the top, causing the former Mizzou Tiger to lean forward, hands on thighs. MacDonald does a little dance in front of him, but Woodley won’t be lured in before the round ends.

It’s Woodley trying to jab now, mixing in a couple leg kicks, but it’s less than one minute into the round when MacDonald has him pushed toward the fence again. Woodley has nowhere to go, just standing in front of MacDonald as the Canadian hits a spinning kick to the body. Woodley complains that it’s low, but referee McCarthy tells him to fight on. With three minutes left on the clock, MacDonald spins Woodley to the ground with a single-leg in the center of the cage. Woodley locks down his opponent’s wrists from underneath for a solid minute, visibly frustrating MacDonald. McCarthy calls for more work on the ground, so MacDonald stands up and dodges upkicks before diving back to Woodley’s butterfly guard. MacDonald passes to side control in the final minute, controlling Woodley’s head and arm to unload with left hands as the crowd cheers to the final horn.

UFC Flyweight Title Fight:
Demetrious Johnson vs. Ali Bagautinov

Round 1

Jerin Valel is the referee in charge of tonight’s 125-pound title main event, with judges Richard Bertrand, Sal D’Amato and David Therien scoring at cageside. Johnson lands first with a leg kick inside while Bagautinov stands still in the center of the cage, twitching but not throwing his cocked right hand. Johnson comes forward and moves Bagautinov toward the fence, lands another leg kick and slips out of range as the challenger throws a some heavy punches. Bagautinov scores with a kick to the body and resumes cutting angles around the outside. Johnson stays with him, continuing with leg kicks until three minutes in, when Bagautinov shoves the champ against the cage. Johnson lands a couple knees as Bagautinov holds him there, but then has to defend as Bagautinov grabs a single-leg. Johnson reverses the position in the last 30 seconds and drives a pair of hard knees into Bagautinov’s midsection. Bagautinov grabs hold and drags him down, but Johnson bounces back up before the horn.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Johnson
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Johnson

Round 2

Johnson goes back to leg-kicking and controlling the distance, then shoots for a takedown when he gets Bagautinov near enough to the fence. Bagautinov reverses the position, but “Mighty Mouse” lands a few knees and then exits the clinch. A left high kick from Johnson hits Bagautinov in the face just as the challenger leans backward. Inside leg kicks and right hooks land for Johnson while he moves Bagautinov around the perimeter. Bagautinov recovers from a particularly hard right and backs Johnson out of range with a whipping high kick. Again, Bagautinov takes the outside position in a clinch on the fence, but again it’s Johnson doing the better work with inside knees and short punches. With 45 seconds left, Bagautinov changes levels and latches on to a single-leg, absorbing some elbows to the head before abandoning the shot a few seconds later.

Bagautinov gets over-unders and pushes Johnson up against the cage again. When the flyweights move off the fence, Johnson grabs a Thai plum and sends a knee up the center. Both men land hard hooks in a close exchange, and Bagautinov comes away sporting some redness on the left side of his brow. Johnson dips into range to land a left hook, then a low kick on the right side, and he gets out of the pocket before Bagautinov can respond. Bagautinov gets a rear waist lock and dumps Johnson to the ground with 90 seconds left in the round. The champ pops right back up and works more knees in the Thai clinch. Bagautinov is retaliating from this position now, slamming Johnson’s flanks with punches. Johnson denies a single-leg, cracks Bagautinov with a knee but can’t avoid the takedown. Bagautinov stuffs a single-leg, so Johnson stands back up to deliver a knee and an elbow in the clinch. The champ is working his jab now, mixing it in with the constant stream of leg kicks he’s been feeding to Bagautinov since the opening round. Bagautinov is still throwing hard but he just can’t find the mark against Johnson, who lands a kick to the leg or body and then gets out of range in a flash. Johnson catches a kick from Bagautinov and tries the Thai clinch again. This time, Bagautinov doesn’t take any damage from the position and manages to turn Johnson against the fence to score with a couple knees. Johnson fights off the takedown to the end of the round, even taking Bagautinov’s back just before the horn. When the round ends, Bagautinov stays kneeling until his corner comes to retrieve him.

Round 5

Johnson continues to do great work with knees in the clinch, but the position leaves him open to being pressed against the cage. Bagautinov sends a pair of good uppercuts up the center, so Johnson grabs the plum again to slow the pace. They jockey for position, Bagautinov nearly tripping Johnson to the ground as the champ’s leg bends awkwardly. They stay on the cage until the 90-seconds mark, when Johnson dings Bagautinov with a couple good knees to the head. Bagautinov ties up again, gives Johnson a knee to the gut and takes a harder one in return. Both flyweight swing with wild punches in the last 20 seconds, then Bagautinov comes back for one final clinch on the fence. Bagautinov punches at Johnson’s body while Johnson lands one more knee, and this one is going to the judges.
