Nandor Guelmino vs. Daniel Omielanczuk

Round 1

Omielanczuk opens with a hard kick to the body, dodges a combo and rips a left to Guelmino’s body. The heavyweights exchange body kicks as they move to the center of the cage. Guelmino is throwing big overhand rights, dodged by Omielanczuk and countered with another body kick and a stiff left straight. Omielanczuk goes to the body again with a left hook before clinching Guelmino against the fence. The big men jockey for position on the cage for a minute before being split up by referee Dan Miragliotta. When they restart, Omielanczuk tries a takedown, can’t get it, and they wind up right back on the fence, exchanging knees inside with two minutes left on the clock. Another 30 seconds of inactivity and they’re broken up again. Omielanczuk hits an inside leg kick, then stumbles backwards as Guelmino hits him with a teep kick to the gut. Good left hand over the top from Omielanczuk, then he changes levels and plows Guelmino to the ground. Guelmino pops up with his back to the fence, and Omielanczuk looks for another takedown with an inside trip which he finishes just before the horn.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Omielanczuk
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Omielanczuk
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Omielanczuk

Round 2

They heavyweights open up with more kicks, then Omielanczuk charges forward to land three or four big hooks on Guelmino’s chin. Guelmino clinches up and gets taken down; he struggles back to his knees, but Omielanczuk still has control, socking the Austrian with punches. After a struggle, Omielanczuk gets Guelmino on the ground, then sits up in half-guard and drills elbows to his midsection. Omielanczuk tries a kimura which allows Guelmino to sweep, then pass to side control. The Polish fighter tries to stand and gets pulled back down by Guelmino, who scores with a pair of hard left hands to his kneeling opponent’s face. Omielanczuk rolls to his back and puts Guelmino in half-guard, but Guelmino spins around and takes the back when Omielanczuk grabs for a leglock. Again, Omielanczuk puts his back to the canvas with Guelmino in half-guard. Guelmino frames up an arm-triangle, releases and gets popped with an elbow to the side of the head. Short forearm and elbow strikes from Guelmino slow the offense of Omielanczuk underneath.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Guelmino
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Guelmino
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Guelmino

Round 3

Omielanczuk walks forward with his hands at his sides, flicking out kicks to Guelmino’s legs and body. After a minute of both men throwing tired arm punches, they clinch up and lean against the cage for 30 seconds before ref Miragliotta separates them. Omielanczuk misses with windmilling punches, takes a hard side-kick to the body, then clinches Guelmino against the fence again. Miragliotta breaks them up, Guelmino connects with a punch and they pause for Omielanczuk to replace his fallen mouthpiece. Good left hand over the top connects for Omielanczuk, followed by another on the chin which sends Guelmino to the ground. Referee Miragliotta rushes in to wave off the fight as a dazed Guelmino tries to get to his feet.

The Result

Daniel Omielanczuk def. Nandor Guelmino via KO (Punch) R3 3:18

Alex Caceres vs. Roland Delorme

Round 1

Caceres is busy from the opening bell, sticking long jabs in Delorme’s face and rangy kicks to the body. “Bruce Leroy” hits a one-two over the top and backpedals away from Delorme’s return fire. The right-left lands again, marking up Delorme’s face. Delorme lands a big left hook on the chin and Caceres hits the ground. Delorme chases him to the ground, trying to secure a mounted crucifix. Caceres powers out and nearly secures back-mount, but now Delorme slips out and jumps on Caceres’ back in the scramble. Delorme can’t quite get his left arm under Caceres’ chin for the rear-naked choke, so he sits up and pries away the “TUF” alum’s arms to try again. Hard right hands land for Delorme as he tries to further soften up Caceres for the choke. Ninety seconds left in the round and Delorme continues to punch away with right hands in between hunting for the RNC. Caceres flips over, giving Delorme full mount, then thinks better of it and surrenders his back again. Caceres stands and tries to shake Delorme over the top; he can’t, but once they hit the ground, Caceres finally escapes to his feet. Delorme chases him down and shoots a double-leg just before the horn sounds to end the wild first round.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Delorme
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Delorme
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Delorme

Round 2

Caceres sticks a couple long jabs and a slapping kick to the body, then dips out of the way as Delorme attempts to counter. The right-left straight combination is still working for Caceres, who leaps in and pulls down Delorme’s head for a knee which is partially blocked. Delorme comes in to clinch and gets shoved to the ground by Caceres, who takes the Canadian’s back when he tries to stand. Caceres knees Delorme in the thigh a few times before releasing and resuming his jab assault. Delorme hits a single-leg and gets rolled over the top, but he comes out of the scramble with a front headlock as Caceres stands and pushes him against the fence. Still defending a single-leg, Caceres jumps up and uses his free leg to knee Delorme in the body, then escapes to the center of the Octagon. Delorme is landing sporadic single punches but absorbing many more to the face and body as Caceres jabs circles around him. Under one minute left in the round and Delorme comes in behind a left hand to shoot a double. Caceres defends and moves off the fence to land a body kick and a right cross.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Caceres
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Caceres
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Caceres

Round 3

Caceres lands a Superman punch and a body kick, gets turned around and takes a Delorme punch to the solar plexus when he faces front again. After a short, stiff jab lands on his chin, Caceres opts to clinch Delorme against the fence, then takes his back standing. Caceres pops him with a couple right hands from behind the back and then releases. Caceres is dodging almost all of Delorme’s strikes now, picking apart the Canadian’s reddened face with jabs and working the legs with chopping kicks. Delorme raises his hands after eating an uppercut, then catches a kick and uses it to put Caceres on the cage. Delorme finishes the single-leg but can’t keep Caceres on the ground. Caceres sprawls on the next double-leg attempt and turns the corner to take Delorme’s back. They stand and Caceres throws a knee over Delorme’s shoulder before separating. One minute remaining now, and Caceres is still doing his matador routine, then coming back to pick away with jabs. Caceres slips and Delorme pounces on top, dodging a triangle and working to flatten out “Bruce Leroy” with seconds left in the fight. Caceres wraps him up and that’s where it ends.

Michel Prazeres vs. Jesse Ronson

Round 1

Prazeres chops at the southpaw Ronson’s lead leg with a few leg kicks outside before shooting in on a single-leg. The Brazilian finishes his takedown near the fence, then another when Ronson gets back to his feet. It’s side-control for Prazeres on Ronson’s right side, with the Canadian’s left side facing the fence. Ronson tries to walk up the cage and nearly gets mounted; instead, Ronson powers back to his feet, only to be slammed back down. Prazeres lands in half-guard, then sits up to look for an arm-triangle and passes to side control. After dropping a couple elbows on Ronson’s face, Prazeres tries to step into full mount. Ronson gives up his back and Prazeres sinks in both hooks, then begins working for a rear-naked choke, trying to tenderize Ronson with punches under the armpit. Prazeres nearly sinks in the RNC, but Ronson rolls away from the fence and loosens the grip. Prazeres is still on Ronson’s back, going for the choke when the round runs out.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Prazeres
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Prazeres
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Prazeres

Round 2

Ronson lands a leg kick before being taken back to the ground and again back-mounted. This time, Ronson is able to quickly power back to his feet, but Prazeres stays glued to his legs and runs him across the cage to complete another takedown at the base of the fence. Ronson gets to one knee and Prazeres grabs a front headlock to try and break the posture. The lightweights stand and they’re back to striking with three minutes left in the round. Prazeres catches a kick, can’t finish the takedown, then chases down the running Ronson to score with a right hand and a double-leg. When Ronson stands, Prazeres keeps him pressed against the fence with a left underhook and works a couple knees to Ronson’s open right side. Ronson lands a knee of his own and escapes, then presses forward and puts a long jab in Prazeres’ breadbasket. Ronson sticks a jab, stuffs a double-leg and then shuts down another takedown try on the fence before the end of the round.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Prazeres
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Prazeres
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Ronson

Round 3

Ronson looks the fresher of the two fighters as the final period begins, and it shows as he pops Prazeres with a quick uppercut. The Canadian goes to the body of Prazeres, who is just walking forward with his hands at his sides now and can’t complete his first takedown attempt of the round. Prazeres charges forward and lands a hard right hook, can’t hold on to Ronson as he tries for a takedown. Ronson sticks a good hook on Prazeres’ chin, misses with a lunging uppercut and gets muscled against the cage. Circling out, Ronson leaves Prazeres shooting and falling to the ground, then comes back to kick at the Brazilian’s legs. Referee Yves Lavigne tells Ronson he needs to stay busy if he wishes to keep the Ali-Inoki position, so Ronson keeps kicking. He allows Prazeres back up, and the “Tractor” makes him pay for the decision with a hard right hand. Ronson returns fire with a left cross, goes up top for a left high kick which Prazeres blocks and shakes his head at. With one minute left, Prazeres drives Ronson to the ground with a double-leg and sits up in half-guard. Prazeres puts a couple short rights on Ronson’s face and sticks to his back as they stand up. Inside the last 10 seconds, Ronson roars and slams Prazeres to the ground, but can’t get much done before the final horn.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Ronson (29-28 Prazeres)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Ronson (29-27 Prazeres)

John Makdessi vs. Renee Forte

Round 1

Forte throws an early head kick, blocked by Makdessi, then absorbs a couple leg kicks inside from “The Bull.” It’s almost all kicks in the opening minute, including a spinning strike from Makdessi which lands square on Forte’s breadbasket. Makdessi ducks a punch and comes over the top with a left-handed counter. Makdessi slips another punch and sends Forte to the ground with a pair of short, grazing right hands to the temple. Forte is finished when he hits the ground, but referee Todd Anderson is out of position, so Makdessi has to knock out the Brazilian a second time to get the stoppage.

The Result

John Makdessi def. Renee Forte via KO (Punches) R1 2:01

Mitch Gagnon vs. Dustin Kimura

Round 1

The bantamweights trade leg kicks early, and Kimura sticks a right hand before having his head pulled down in the Thai plum and eating a knee. Gagnon swipes a wide left across Kimura’s face, bloodying the Hawaiian’s nose. Another pair of hard lefts land for Gagnon in close quarters. Kimura eats a right hook to the face, then a left to the body, but he comes back to crack Gagnon with a left to the ribs. Gagnon doubles over after taking a liver shot, but he’s able to drive Kimura to the ground and recover while defending a heel hook. Gagnon postures up and drills Kimura with a hard left hand from guard. Another big left connects for Gagnon as Kimura scrambles to his feet. Now, Gagnon goes to the guts of Kimura with a big left-handed uppercut. Kimura’s face is covered in blood from his nose as Gagnon sticks another pair of punches in his face. Gagnon pulls guard with a tight guillotine choke already sunk in. He cranks the choke from underneath until referee Yves Lavigne checks Kimura’s arm, sees that it’s limp and calls an end to the fight.

The Result

Mitch Gagnon def. Dustin Kimura via Technical Submission (Guillotine Choke) R1 4:05

Chris Clements vs. Stephen Thompson

Round 1

Thompson kicks at the lead leg of Clements, then comes up top and grazes with a head kick as Clements ducks in. The welterweights exchange hard leg kicks as they continue to feel out the range in the center of the cage. Thompson is crouched, waiting to throw high when Clements kicks, but it backfires as Thompson throws a head kick and gets the rear leg kicked out from under him. “Wonderboy” pops back to his feet and pushes Clements against the cage, then catches a knee and finishes a single-leg takedown. Clements gets to his knees, then his feet, and escapes from the clinch with a hard right hand. The next right from Clements misses and is countered by a swift Thompson hook. Clements is sporting a cut over his right eye as he moves in to put Thompson against the fence. They disengage and Clements slips on a kick, allowing Thompson to chase him to the ground and move to half-guard. Clements hits the switch and escapes to his feet, only to be put back on the fence. Clements lands a left hook and escapes, and ref John McCarthy announces that the cut on Clements is due to an accidental clash of heads. Thompson hits another takedown with 15 seconds left and finishes the round on top.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Thompson
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Thompson
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Thompson

Round 2

Thompson backs Clements off with a high side-kick, then steps out of range when Clements tries to return fire. A quick pair of straight punches put Clements on rubbery legs, and Thompson jumps on his dazed opponent with another left on the temple as they tumble to the ground. Thompson scores with a couple short punches from half-guard before extracting his leg and scrambling back up. Clements is still shaky, whiffing on a wide right hook as he comes after Thompson. A right hand behind the ear stumbles Clements again, and two more punches from Thompson send him to the canvas for good as referee McCarthy steps in to separate the welterweights.

The Result

Stephen Thompson def. Chris Clements via TKO (Punches) R2 1:27

Ivan Menjivar vs. Wilson Reis

Round 1

Reis lands first with a pair of leg kicks, then takes a body kick in return. The Brazilian southpaw swings a hard left hook, sidestepped by Menjivar. Reis slips on a kick, but he pops up before Menjivar can capitalize. They trade leg kicks before Reis misses with a wide left and gets clinched up, then shoved away. Menjivar grabs the Thai plum and scores with two or three knees up the middle while Reis swings wild punches until he can break free. Menjivar continues to switch between southpaw and orthodox stances as he keeps his distance from Reis, slipping most of the former EliteXC champ’s power punches. Reis swarms on Menjivar with punches and taps him with a left hook, then a punch to the chest. Menjivar continues backpedaling, looking to counter and picking at Reis with leg and body kicks. With 45 seconds on the clock, Reis changes levels and hits a takedown against the fence, coming to the ground in Menjivar’s closed guard. Reis strains his opponent’s neck with a can opener as Menjivar throws no-look left hands from his back at the end of the round.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Reis
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Menjivar
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Menjivar

Round 2

Both men begin the second frame with more kicks, and Menjivar counters with a clean hook after one from Reis. Catching a kick, Reis drives Menjivar to the ground at the foot of the fence about 90 seconds into the round. Reis backs out and leaves Menjivar on the mat, kicking at his legs until “The Pride of El Salvador” scrambles up. They tie up on the fence, then separate to restart in the center of the cage in the middle of the round. Menjivar is able to land one right hand before Reis catches another kick and puts him on the ground again. Reis sits up and tries to strike when Menjivar opens up guard, so Menjivar closes the guard again and pulls Reis in tight. Full guard for Menjivar now with 80 seconds left in the round. The bantamweights are tangled up, neither able to do much offensively, and the Toronto crowd begins to let them hear it. Menjivar gets to his feet with 30 seconds to go and hits Reis with an uppercut and a body kick before the horn.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Reis
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Reis
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Reis

Round 3

Lots of jabbing and feinting in the opening minute of the final round, and now it’s Menjivar moving forward on Reis in a reverse of the earlier rounds. Menjivar shuts down the single-leg shot from Reis but still winds up being held against the fence. Menjivar grabs a headlock and tries to turn it into a guillotine; Reis pulls his head loose, wraps his arms around Menjivar and trips him to the ground with just under three minutes remaining in the fight. Reis is in full mount, looking to set up an arm-triangle choke as Menjivar tries to bridge and escape. The choke doesn’t stick, so Reis socks Menjivar with short left hands to the body and head as they scoot away from the fence. Menjivar isn’t offering much from the bottom, just trying to keep Reis wrapped up and unable to generate power on his punches. Menjivar regains guard with 40 left, and Reis goes body-head with more left hands as the final seconds tick away.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Reis (30-27 Reis)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Reis (29-28 Reis)
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Reis (29-28 Reis)

The Result

Myles Jury vs. Mike Ricci

Round 1

The lightweights get off to a tentative start, both feeling the range with leg kicks and long, probing punches over the top. Ricci is getting the better of the kicks after a minute, slipping one up top which lands flush on Jury’s cheek. Jury lands a right hand and drives in on a takedown, putting Ricci down at the base of the fence and keeping hold of the Canadian’s legs to maintain control. Ricci posts up and nearly gets to his feet, but Jury has him held down by the ankles, so “The Martian” slams some hard elbows to the side of Jury’s head. Ricci finally gets back to his feet with 15 seconds left and finishes the round with a slapping kick to Jury’s gut.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Jury

Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Jury

Round 2

Ricci presses forward as round two begins, trying to find the range with long punches and step-in elbows. The Canadian switches to jabs and body kicks, then backpedals when Jury comes ahead swinging hard punches. Both fighters are moving plenty, but neither man is landing much clean offense, drawing boos from the Toronto crowd. Ricci ducks a wild overhand punch from Jury and both men nearly tumble to the ground. Jury tries to pick the ankle of Ricci, who steps out and circles away. Jury slaps Ricci’s chest with a high kick, then counters a combination with a right hook on the temple. Jury shoots a single-leg against the fence with 25 seconds left, can’t complete it and gets shoved away.

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-10
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-10
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Ricci

Round 3

Jury ducks a punch and puts Ricci down near the fence with a double-leg. Again, Jury is focused on controlling the legs and keeping Ricci on the ground, while Ricci tries to post up and stand. Ricci gets to his feet with 3:00 left in the fight, but Jury stays low and puts him on the ground again. The tables turn as Ricci drives on a leg and briefly puts Jury’s back to the fence, only to be reversed again. Referee Yves Lavigne warns Ricci not to grab the fence as Jury continues to hold him down. Jury momentarily takes Ricci’s back, but they finish the round in the familiar position, with Jury clung to Ricci’s legs.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Jury (30-28 Jury)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Jury (30-28 Jury)
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Jury (29-28 Jury)

Pat Healy vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov

Round 1

Healy comes forward on Nurmagomedov, looping wide left hands around the outside while the Dagestani fighter steps backwards. Healy takes 90 seconds to finally get in range and clinch up against the fence, but Nurmagomedov shoves him away. Healy eats an uppercut, lands a left hand and a leg kick outside. Nurmagomedov leaps in with a pair of flying knees which open a cut on the left side of Healy’s face. A counter right uppercut from Nurmagomedov dings Healy as the American veteran continues to press forward. Healy answers with an uppercut of his own shortly before referee Yves Lavigne pauses the action for Nurmagomedov to replace his lost mouthpiece. Healy rips a hard right hand to the body, then takes another uppercut and left hook on the cheek. Another jump knee scores for Nurmagomedov; he changes levels as Healy comes forward and puts the wrestler on the ground near the fence. Healy is back up seconds later, only to be single-legged back to the mat at decked with an elbow, then a right hand the end of the round.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Nurmagomedov
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Nurmagomedov
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Nurmagomedov

Round 2

A counter left hook from Healy puts Nurmagomedov on wobbly legs in the opening seconds of round two. “The Eagle” regains his bearings and takes Healy’s back in a scramble after a missed takedown attempt. Healy works up the cage and back to his feet, though not before eating a couple hard right hands. Healy closes in on the fence and takes a left hook on the jaw, then partially blocks a high kick. Nurmagomedov strikes with a left hook and backpedals to avoid a wide punching combo. The uppercut of Nurmagomedov finds its mark again, but Healy quickly reverses the momentum with a left hook up top. Nurmagomedov clinches up on the fence and gets tossed to the ground. He stands back up and drags Healy to his knees, then keeps hold of Healy’s waist as they scramble up. Healy pops Nurmagomedov with a good right cross, then another as “Bam Bam” closes in on the perimeter. Nurmagomedov turns it around and leans Healy against the fence with about one minute left in the round. They break and Nurmagomedov lands an uppercut before coming back to clinch again. Healy escapes with a left hook, pulls up short on a pair of jabs and is taken down in the middle of the cage. Nurmagomedov buries his face in Healy’s chest to avoid elbows, then sits up to slam an elbow on the American’s face.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Nurmagomedov
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Nurmagomedov
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Nurmagomedov

Round 3

Healy comes over the top with a good right hand, then gets shoved against the fence as Nurmagomedov looks for a takedown. The lightweights separate and Healy lands a knee in the clinch, then a right hand to the body. One minute into the round, Nurmagomedov hits a double-leg near the fence, which Healy tries to walk up for an escape. Nurmagomedov keeps him flat, dropping ground-and-pound on Healy’s body and head from half-guard. Healy nearly escapes to his feet, so Nurmagomedov picks him up over the shoulder, runs him across the cage and deposits Healy on the ground with a rough slam. Two minutes left and Healy is holding Nurmagomedov in guard, but that doesn’t stop “The Eagle” from posturing up and dropping heavy punches on his grounded opponent’s face. Nurmagomedov passes to side control with 60 seconds remaining; Healy puts him back in half-guard, so Nurmagomedov stands and tries to smash Healy with a few final punches before time expires.

Costas Philippou vs. Francis Carmont

Round 1

The middleweights trade leg kicks in the center of the cage before Carmont shoots in for a takedown. He keeps hold of Philippou’s waist as they move to the fence, then sinks in one hook as Philippou tries to kneel and stand. Carmont keeps his opponent kneeling, landing a couple hard left hands underneath the armpit and then trying for a rear-naked choke. Philippou escapes by rolling to his back, and Carmont remains on top in half-guard to drop an elbow, then punches to the body. Ref John McCarthy calls for work as Philippou puts Carmont in full guard, then throws up his legs for an armbar attempt. Carmont snuffs it out and passes to side control on Philippou’s left, then north-south position. The Frenchman moves to side control on the other side and extracts his arm from an omoplata with the help of some hammer fists to Philippou’s face. Philippou puts Carmont back in guard with 30 seconds left and is warned to watch his upkicks as Carmont kneels in front of him. Philippou rolls for an armbar but can’t extend Carmont’s left limb before time runs out.

This time, Philippou tries to create some space to strike from underneath, but he winds up eating a heavy elbow to the mush. Carmont tries to advance but stalls out in Philippou’s half-guard with not much space between them and the cage. With just over two minutes remaining in the round, ref McCarthy issues a stand-up order. Carmont doesn’t take long to shoot another double and put Philippou on the ground again. “Limitless” takes a minute to advance to full mount, hitting Philippou with lefts to the body along the way and an elbow to the head at the end of the frame.

Sherdog Scores

Philippou gets to a knee, then his feet, but Carmont immediately deposits him back on the floor and resumes his grunt-and-pound. Both men look up at the clock with 90 seconds left, then Carmont goes back to punching. He steps into full mount with 30 seconds left; Philippou gives up his back, then turns over again, and Carmont closes out the bout with more swinging punches.

Brendan Schaub vs. Matt Mitrione

Round 1

Schaub wants to touch gloves at the bell, but Mitrione turns it down and lines up in the southpaw stance a few feet away from his fellow “TUF 10” alum. Schaub lands a glancing right hand, then gets clipped with a short left hook in the next exchange. Mitrione lands a kick inside which Schaub tries to catch, but “The Hybrid” comes up short. Schaub is bleeding slightly from the left side of his scalp just 90 seconds into the bout, but he returns the favor with an overhand left that opens up a cut on the outside of Mitrione’s left eye. Again, Schaub wants to clinch; Mitrione shoves him way and continues pushing forward toward the fence. Mitrione lands another hard leg kick and pulls the limb away before Schaub can grab hold. Schaub rushes forward and bombs Mitrione with a wild combination, then plants “Meathead” on the canvas with a double-leg. Mitrione leaves his neck exposed as he drives forward and Schaub sinks in a deep brabo choke. Mitrione gives ref Dan Miragliotta the thumbs-up, but the choke is tight and he goes unconscious a few seconds later.

The Result

Brendan Schaub def. Matt Mitrione via Technical Submission (Brabo Choke) R1 4:06

Renan Barao vs. Eddie Wineland

Round 1

Yves Lavigne is the referee for tonight’s 135-pound interim title fight. The challenger Wineland sets up in the center of the cage and lunges outward at Barao with wide combinations. Wineland presses Barao against the cage for a moment with little action, leading to a separation from ref Lavigne. The champion slips on a high kick, pops back up before Wineland can do anything about it. Wineland goes to the body with a good left hook, slides out of the way of a spinning heel kick. Barao deflects a couple of combinations with his forearms and lands a hard kick to the outside of Wineland’s lead leg. Barao shoots in and gets stuffed on his first takedown attempt. Wineland denies the next attempt to clinch, absorbs a couple leg kicks and an overhand right. Both bantamweights land hard, head-down punches in a close exchange. Barao leaps in at the 10-second clapper to get the last word with a grazing right-left combo.

Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson

Round 1

Veteran official “Big” John McCarthy is the referee for tonight’s 205-pound championship main event, with judges Richard Bertrand, Douglas Crosby and Chris Lee scoring at cageside. Jones forgoes his traditional crawl out of the corner and touches gloves with Gustafsson to open the fight. Gustafsson is in Jones’ face from the bell, trying to stick long punches on the champion. Jones answers with a spinning kick to the body, tries to tie up and gets shoved away. Jones is keeping his lead arm outstretched, moving backward and kicking at the thighs and knees of Gustafsson as the challenger comes forward. Gustafsson pops the champ with a short lead uppercut and lands an inside leg kick of his own. A hard right hand from Gustafsson grazes Jones’ head in an exchange, opening a cut on the outside of the champ’s right eye. Jones sends Gustafsson backing up to the fence with a spinning back-kick to the body. An inside leg kick lands for Jones, countered by a pair of speedy punches and a hard right over the top from Gustafsson. The challenger continues moving around the outside and lunges forward with a Superman punch. Jones puts another spinning kick on Gustafsson’s body before being taken down in the center of the cage. Gustafsson lets Jones back up and circles out with 45 seconds left in the opening round. Gustafsson ducks in to strike and gets a finger in the eye from Jones’ outstretched hand. The Swede recovers quickly and pumps out his jab, but eats a spinning elbow from the champ. Jones goes for a single-leg on the fence, can’t get it but hits him with another elbow before the horn.

Round 2

There’s a short delay to the start of round two as ref McCarthy calls for some excess Vaseline to be wiped away from the cut on Jones’ right eye. Gustafsson catches a kick and sweeps Jones to the ground; the champ pops back up and tries to return the favor, but Gustafsson pulls his leg free and hops away. Jones clinches up and goes for a trip, again thwarted by the challenger. Gustafsson circles out and takes a leg kick, then misses with an overhand right. A hard left hook lands on Jones’ cheek, and the champ returns fire with a kick to Gustafsson’s body. Gustafsson is in constant motion around the perimeter, making Jones chase him down and making it tough for the champ to land his spinning kicks. A head kick rocks Gustafsson’s head, but the challenger stays up. Gustafsson sends a right straight down the middle, takes another kick to the breadbasket and lands an outside leg kick. Jones whiffs on a big right, has a kick caught and is forced to roll out or be taken down. Gustafsson defends another shot against the fence and circles out to score with a right straight. Both men land jabs, and Jones just misses a head kick as Gustafsson ducks down. Gustafsson sends a right hand over the top and backs away from a high kick at the end of the round.

Round 3

Jones resumes his leg-kicking in the third round, with Gustafsson still swinging hard punches over the top and connecting with a good right straight. Again, Gustafsson shoves the champion away when Jones moves in to clinch. Another right hand up top connects for Gustafsson, then an uppercut in the pocket. Jones sticks a leg kick outside and dips out of the way of a counter uppercut. Front kick to the body from Jones is answered by a Gustafsson body kick, then one to the leg. Gustafsson moves in with an uppercut, then a right hook as Jones covers up. The next right hand from the Swede has Jones backing up to the fence. Jones misses with an axe kick, lands a follow-up front kick to the gut and a left high kick to the body. Gustafsson tries to shoot in and is pushed away. He catches a kick from Jones but can’t trip the champ to the ground. Good two-punch combo from Gustafsson is followed by a short elbow in close quarters. Gustafsson catches a spinning elbow to the neck and tries another takedown, stuffed by Jones. Jones gets the last word in the round with a left hook.

Round 4

The first right straight landed by Gustafsson is followed by a warning from ref McCarthy for Jones to watch his fingers. Jones lands a hook and is warned again to keep his hands closed when striking. Gustafsson blocks a left high kick, eats a straight right and tries to get in Jones’ face with a clinch, but he’s shoved off. Gustafsson comes over the top with a right, and yet again McCarthy warns Jones for leaving his hand open. Jones land a pair of solid leg kicks but gets his head pushed back by Gustafsson’s jab. Great left hook from Gustafsson as he ducks under a Jones punch and comes up to counter. Gustafsson is scoring with clean, hard punches now, forcing Jones to shoot a double-leg against the fence. Gustafsson shuts it down and circles out, then comes back to put a right hand on Jones’ ribs and a pair of left hooks on the cheek. The next right hand from Gustafsson has Jones shooting again, to no avail. Jones grazes with a left high kick and leaves his hand outstretched, drawing another warning from McCarthy. Gustafsson is hurt from a spinning elbow, and Jones tries to finish off the challenger as he circles. Gustafsson stuffs another takedown attempt but eats two more hard elbow shots and a flying knee before the round ends.

Round 5

Gustafsson seems to have recovered from the assault at the end of round four, sticking a pair of straight rights down the pipe to open the final stanza. The challenger is leaking blood from his hairline, though, and now Jones is shutting down the Swede’s takedown tries. Gustafsson exits the clinch with a hard uppercut, but Jones comes back with a left-handed Superman punch. Jones steps in with a nasty elbow, then has a kick caught and wards off a Gustafsson single-leg attempt. Jones catches Gustafsson leaning with a right cross and shoots a double, finally getting the challenger to the floor. Gustafsson immediately scoots backward to the fence and stands back up. Half a round to go in the fight and Jones lands a hard left high kick, but Gustafsson keeps coming. Suddenly, Gustafsson looks spent, leaning over with his hands on his hips. Jones connects with another head kick before having another double-leg stuffed. Gustafsson sticks a straight punch in Jones’ face and wheels around to graze the champ with a spinning elbow. Both 205ers are exhausted but still pumping jabs in one another’s face. Jones lands another head kick, slips an uppercut from the challenger and decks Gustafsson with a standing elbow. Gustafsson tries a takedown with 10 seconds left, but it’s Jones who gets the last word with a leaping knee.
