Bellator MMA offered him a new deal, but Jordan Young believed his time there was up.
Young (11-1) will soon make his debut in the Professional Fighters League, joining former Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight contenders Chris Camozzi and Cezar Ferreira, PFL Season 2019 light heavyweight champion Emiliano Sordi, among the others. The Bellator MMA vet will collide with Smealinho Rama in his first foray under the PFL banner. While talking with Sherdog, Young explained the process that brought him to leave Bellator MMA and sign with PFL.
“I went to California after my last fight and had a sit down with them,” he said. “We had great communication. I don’t have anything bad to say about Bellator. I just think that my time ran out over there. I wasn’t necessarily on the top of their to-do list. PFL seems to have me a little more in mind, and they seem to appreciate what I bring to the table. It seems like it’s going to be a good business relationship. I’m excited for this first season.”
In his latest cage appearance, Young had to concede a decision to Julius Anglickas at Bellator 233. The American Top Team representative believes that some injuries influenced the outcome of that fight. That night, he suffered his first defeat, snapping an 11-bout winning streak.
“I was advised not to take that fight,” he said. “I wasn’t completely injured, but I had a lingering injury, and unfortunately for me, it turned into something worse leading up to the fight and during the fight. Julius came with a good gameplan, and he fought a good fight. I think it was a good introduction to Bellator for him. It wasn’t such a good exit for me, but it is what it is. It’s part of the sport. Taking the loss, obviously, no one wants to lose as we all want to stay undefeated, but taking the loss has made me better ultimately, I believe. It has made me tying up some things in my game.”
