Former UFC Champ Anthony Pettis Says Fans Should Expect ‘Showtime’ in PFL

“Showtime” is ready to build on his already established hall of fame career.

In a couple of months, Anthony Pettis (24-10) will make his Professional Fighters League debut, where he will first meet Clay Collard on the PFL’s 2021 Season opener. The former Ultimate Fighting Championship 155-pound king has left the Nevada-based promotion af-ter fighting in three different weight classes and facing the biggest names in each of those divisions over the last nine years. While talking with Sherdog, Pettis had no doubts about what’s Collard’s weakness.

“[It’s] fighting a fighter like myself,” he said. “Finding a guy that moves the way I move, that can take the damage that I take, and give the damage I give. It’s hard to train for. It’s not really some-thing that you can train for. I do things that guys have never seen before. That’s what I think makes me stand out, that gives me that X factor, that, ‘what’s going to happen next?’ I can fight every-where, on the ground, standing, striking. I just keep continuing sharpening my tools and make sure I’m ready for the whole season.”

In his last UFC appearance, “Showtime” outpointed Alex Morono in their 170-pound encounter at UFC Fight Night 183. The performance came after Pettis upended Donald Cerrone in their second face-off at UFC 249. Right now, the Roufusport-representative is just thinking about his next challenge and how to overcome it while staying ready for the rest of the regular season.

“I’m going to go out there and be me,” he added. “He has a great opportunity, a guy like that, to fight the former champion in the first round. I know he’s coming hard, and I’m training well for that.”

The upcoming PFL shows will all be available to watch on either ESPN2 or ESPN+ in the U.S., and will be on various other networks internationally.
