Roger Alves vs. David Swanson

Round 1

There’s little action through the first minute of the bout as the lightweights test the range with kicks. Alves finally ducks inside for a takedown, gets snared in a front headock and slams Swanson to the ground to get out of danger of the guillotine. Alves sets up in Swanson’s guard and pushes him to the base of the fence, then stands and tries to prevent the taller man from posting and standing. When Swanson is almost on his feet, Alves drags him back to the ground. Swanson pushes off the fence with his feet but can’t get free of Alves, who spends the final half of the round on top, peppering with sporadic punches to the body.

Round 2

It’s more of the same at the start of round two, with Alves hitting another takedown and pushing Swanson to the cage. Alves moves from side control back to Swanson’s guard and works more short ground-and-pound before passing to full mount. Alves transitions from mount to the back of Swanson and briefly fishes for a rear-naked choke, but Swanson writhes free and is again flattened out. Alves rains down punches to close out the round.

Round 3

Alves starts the third and final round exactly like the first and second, with a takedown. Alves becoming more aggressive with his shots from the top though, drawing some noise from the audience. Alves moves towards a guillotine choke, Swanson defends it well, he now is trying to stand back upright by using the cage to his advantage. Alves stands up, inching closer to Swanson, he then throws a right hand and assumes position back on top. Swanson manages to stand briefly, but Alves grabs control of Swanson's neck and takes the fight back to the mat. Referee Kyle Cardinal has enough of the grappling and stands the two men up for the final minute. Alves throws a haymaker on the reset, he then shoots on the single-leg and scores a final takedown. Strong wrestling completely nullified anything Swanson had to offer.

Matt Baker vs. Cody Krahn

Round 1

The two men go right at each other when the bell sounds. Baker hits Krahn with an uppercut to which Krahn comes back with some huge knees. Baker turns the tables and gets the slam for the takedown. Krahn is intelligently covering his head as Baker continues slamming Krahn with shots to the head. Out of nowhere, Krahn turns the tables and winds up on top, he now takes his turn throwing huge shots from the top. Baker grabs hold of Krahn's arm and locks in the armbar deep for the submission.

The Official Result

Matt Baker def. Cody Krahn via Submission (Armbar) R1 2:28

Hakeem Dawodu vs. Mike Malott

Round 1

Hakeem Dawodu and Mike Malott come into the bout undefeated. They both tentatively inch towards the center of the cage. Dawodu and Malott trade push kicks from a distance, then Dawodu takes a step forward and cracks Malott with a right hook that rocks his opponent. They reset. Malott is working his jab, then following with a big shot of his own. Dawodu comes over the top with a punch that narrowly misses. Malott throws Dawodu to the floor, takes his back and then tries to sink in the rear-naked choke. Dawodu gets his chin down and avoids the submission. Dawodu rocks Malott with a right-hook, then follows with a left, Malott wobbles. Now Dawodu begins teeing off with all sorts of punches. Referee John Braak is inching closer and now steps in to stop the fight.

The Official Result

Hakeem Dawodu def. Mike Malott via TKO (Punches and Elbows) R1 4:13

Tim Hague vs. Craig Hudson

Round 1

Hague pushes forward with straight right hands, but it’s a short left that catches Hudson and sends him staggering backward. Hague keeps coming ahead but can’t land the homerun shot as Hudson evades, and now the big men reset in the center of the cage. Hudson leans in to put a straight punch in Hague’s gut, then finds more success upstairs with a right hook. Hudson is going body-head with wide, hooking shots now, appearing to sting Hague, who is offering little in return halfway through the opening round. His nose bloodied, Hague tries a low kick but only grazes Hudson’s shin. Hudson’s pace has slowed now, too, but he’s still the active fighter, keeping his jab in Hague’s face and occasionally mixing it up with a right hand to the body.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Hudson
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Hudson
C.J. Tuttle scores the round 10-9 Hudson

Round 2

Hudson sends a couple left hooks around Hague’s guard and threatens with an uppercut when Hague leans in to grab at his legs. Hague swings hands but can’t connect, then gets backed up toward the fence as Hudson punishes him with big overhand rights, further bloodying Hague’s face. Hudson lands a right straight to the body, a left jab up top, then a slow right straight-left hook combo. A jab and a right cross snaps back Hague’s head, and “The Thrashing Machine” draws a deep breath as he circles away. Hudson walks him down, and now Hague tries some offense in the final minute of the round, sticking a left hand on Hudson’s cheek and then circling out again. Hudson doubles up a jab and swings a wide right hand which appears to catch Hague with a finger to the left eye. Referee John Braak takes no action, but the round ends seconds later anyhow.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Hudson
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Hudson
C.J. Tuttle scores the round 10-9 Hudson

Round 3

Hague pushes the action to start round three, bombing on Hudson with lunging left hands, but Hudson evades the shots and shuffles backward to keep Hague at bay with more jabs. Hague eats four or five punches that bust him open again, then grabs Hudson’s left leg and easily takes him to the ground. Hague passes to side control on the right, leaning across and staining Hudson’s midsection with blood. Hague looks to be framing up an arm-triangle choke, can’t get it, and instead he passes to mount with 3:00 remaining in the round. Hague postures up and drops heavy punches and elbows straight to Hudson’s jaw. Hammer fists follow as Hague kneels on Hudson’s right arm and unloads with both fists. Hudson is trapped, eating shots and giving nothing back, and referee Braak steps in to halt the beating.

The Official Result

Tim Hague def. Craig Hudson via TKO (Punches) R3 2:55

Jared Hamman vs. Luke Harris

Round 1

Harris tries to get in Hamman’s face quickly with punches, but the UFC veteran steps backward and touches the Canadian with a low kick. Harris keeps coming, shoving Hamman against the fence and catching him a brief headlock, then releasing to work a clinch and drive a knee upstairs. Hamman breaks free and backs Hamman out of the pocket momentarily with a pair of punches inside. The 205ers comes back to the center of the cage, where Harris hits another step-in knee, then sticks a jab that backs Hamman up a few steps. Hamman times Harris’ next attack and counters with a left cross that busts Harris open above the right eye. Harris rushes into the pocket again and gets lit up with more punches, and now he’s in zombie mode, leaning over with arms straight ahead, barely conscious and trying to defend against Hamman’s assault. Hamman traps him against the fence and pours on the punches until a right straight buckles Harris’ legs, sending referee Kyle Cardinal into action.

The Official Result

Jared Hamman def. Luke Harris via TKO (Punches) R1 2:27

Chris Horodecki vs. Luis Huete

Round 1

Horodecki takes the center of the cage while Huete circles to counterclockwise around the outside, looking to dip into the pocket with a high knee. Horodecki hits a two-piece combo, countered by Huete with a short right hook before he pushes “The Polish Hammer” against the fence. Huete is twice warned for grabbing the cage by referee Kyle Cardinal, and now he releases Horodecki to reset away from the cage. Horodecki hits a takedown near the fence and lands in Huete’s half guard, and now Huete is warned for grabbing the cage with his toes. Halfway through the round, Horodecki stands and dives back down into Huete’s full guard, barely dodging an upkick on the way. Horodecki passes to half guard on Huete’s right, gets stuffed back to full guard and puts a couple hard punches on Huete’s ribs. Again, Horodecki stands and nearly eats an upkick as he comes back to the cavas. Horodecki gets a warning for grabbing the fence now, as he repositions himself atop Huete to end the round.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Horodecki
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Horodecki
C.J. Tuttle scores the round 10-9 Horodecki

Round 2

Both featherweights look for takedowns against the fence in the opening minute of round two, but it’s Horodecki who winds up on the outside, grabbing for a high double-leg as Huete sprawls against the fence. Huete circles out to the center, lunges into the pocket with an overhand right and hits Horodecki with a knee to the body with a quick Thai clinch. At the midway point of the round, Horodecki catches Huete throwing a kick and chops the other leg out from under him. The WEC veteran follows Huete to the ground in the middle of the cage, thwarts a triangle attempt and tries to mount some ground-and-pound, but Huete is active underneath. In the last 80 seconds, Horodecki begins to put some short punches on Huete’s body and gets through with a couple hammer fists upstairs. Referee Cardinal brings the featherweights back to their feet with 30 seconds to go. Horodecki whiffs on a high kick but catches Huete jumping with a flying knee and shoves him to the ground. Horodecki follows just before the horn to finish the round on top.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Horodecki
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Horodecki
C.J. Tuttle scores the round 10-9 Horodecki

Round 3

Horodecki lands a right hook up top and a left to the body as Huete tries in vain to catch his fellow Canadian in the Thai plum. Horodecki pushes the fight to the outside, lifts Huete into the air and dumps him to the ground a few feet from the fence. With 4:00 left in the bout, Horodecki leans right to left across Huete in half guard. Referee Cardinal calls for action, prompting Horodecki to posture up and drop four or five left hands. After a minute on the ground, Cardinal orders the fighters to stand. Horodecki immediately catches a kick from Huete and brings the action back to the fence, where he gets double underhooks and works for a trip takedown. At the two-minute mark, Horodecki finally brings Huete back to the mat, and referee Cardinal almost instantly threatens to stand them up. He does just that, and now the 145ers go toe-to-toe for the final minute. Horodecki counters a low kick with a straight left, but he eats a hard left hand from Huete in return. Huete puts a right hook on Horodecki’s cheek just before time runs out.

WSOF Heavyweight Title Fight:
Derrick Mehmen vs. Smealinho Rama

Round 1

John Braak is the referee for this heavyweight title fight. Mehmen gets rocked by a whipping overhand right to the temple, and Rama smells blood, trapping the American near the fence with knees and more punches. Mehman is up and down, dropping to the canvas and staggering back to his feet, only to be put back on the canvas with another right hand flush on the temple. Mehmen looks in no shape to continue, and now referee Braak has seen enough. Smealinho Rama becomes the inaugural WSOF heavyweight champion with a first-round stoppage.

The Official Result

Smealinho Rama def. Derrick Mehmen via TKO (Punches) R1 0:51

Jake Shields vs. Ryan Ford

Round 1

Kyle Cardinal is the referee for tonight’s welterweight main event. Ford takes the center of the cage to start the bout, extending his left arm and swinging it around in front of Shields while keeping his right hand cocked. The first jab from Ford sends Shields to the ground, but the American pops back to his feet immediately. Shields tries a long single-leg, easily sprawled on by Ford, who puts another jab on Shields’ face. Shields gets in on a better double-leg near the fence, pulls Ford to the ground but can’t keep him there. Ford takes the outside position as the welterweights clinch on the fence, but Shields hits an outside trip and moves straight to full mount. Shields locks down Ford’s left arm and drops right hands which draw a warning from referee Cardinal for hitting the back of Ford’s head. Shields is warned for grabbing the fence, too, but now he releases to sink in both hooks as Ford gives up his back. They sit down at the base of the fence, where Shields switches to a body triangle to secure the back mount and continue peppering with right hands. Ford tries to twist out of the precarious position, but Shields is all over him with two minutes still remaining in the round. Shields tries a rear-naked choke with his left arm, can’t get it and switches to a neck crank on the other side. Ford leaves his neck exposed for a split second, and that’s all it takes for Shields to slap on the RNC and force the tap.

The Official Result

Jake Shields def. Ryan Ford via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R1 4:29
