“I’m so proud to join forces with the Professional Fighter League,” Khalifa wrote in a statement. “I’ve been doing MMA training for years now, and am also the biggest MMA fan – to be able to bring my expertise and vision to the sport is super exciting and I can’t wait for the action to get started on April 23.”
PFL CEO Peter Murray was elated about Khalifa buying in to the organization, with his own statement reading, “I’m excited to welcome Wiz Khalifa to the PFL’s ownership group and partner with such a gifted global music and cultural icon.” He continued, “Wiz will play an active role in shaping and amplifying the voice of the PFL brand and how it resonates with the 550 million fans around the world.”
The first PFL event will take place on April 23, with PFL 1: 2021 Regular Season held at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, N.J. The whole of the regular season will go down in this arena, with the season playing out inside of a COVID-19 bubble. This first show will feature featherweight and lightweights, with a headliner at 155 pounds between Anthony Pettis and Clay Collard.
