William Knight Says UFC Developmental Deal 'Real Good'

William Knight was only a pro in MMA for 15 months before earning a shot on Dana White's Contender Series.

Taking on Herdem Alacabek, "Nightmare" scored a finish late in the third round. However, it was not the performance he wanted to show and Knight knows he is better. According to Knight, though, he didn't finish Alacabek on the ground sooner was because of something the referee said.

"I don't know if people heard them, when the ref got closer he told me to watch the back of the head. That is why I was pausing and choosing the shots perfectly," Knight told Sherdog.com. "The ref was screaming to watch the back of the head, and the ref in the back said if he warned me twice I would lose position. So, as soon as he turned around, I let them loose and got the finish."

When Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White was announcing who was getting a contract he mentioned that Knight was too green. Unwilling to let him go as a free agent, Knight was signed to a developmental deal. After talking to the promotion, he is very happy with how the developmental deal works and how he will benefit from it.

"I talked to the UFC and it is actually something good. Like real good. I don’t need to wait on the back burner and wait for a card, they want to get me a lot of fights," Knight explained. "Like, what Greg Hardy did it is the same. Any promotion on UFC Fight Pass I will be able to fight for.

"I am on the roster, they told me I am on the UFC roster. They just want me to sharpen everything before I get in. I'm not mad at it," he added. "You tell me who made it this far in 15 months with no other professional background."
