A quarterfinalist on Season 4 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series, Clementi nearly finished it early, when he trapped the previously unbeaten Cordoza in a first-round kimura. Round two saw blood spilled, as Cordoza rattled his foe with a knee to the head. He failed to capitalize, however, wound up on his back and ultimately tapped out to the choke. It was the 19th submission of Clementi’s 53-fight career.

Clementi, a Slidell, La., native, has posted four wins in six fights since being released by the UFC following his guillotine choke submission defeat to American Top Team’s Gleison Tibau in February 2009.

Primm Advances in M-1 Draw

“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 8 quarterfinalist Shane Primm submitted Wesley Welch with a second-round guillotine choke at M-1 Global “M-1 Selection 2010: The Americas Round 2” on Saturday at Bally’s Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J. Welch met his demise 39 seconds into the second period.

Born in Germany, the 25-year-old Primm has won four of his past six fights -- including two straight -- since being pruned from the UFC roster in wake of his submission defeat to Krzysztof Soszynski at “The Ultimate Fighter 8” Finale in December 2008.

Other winners at the event included World Championship Fighting veteran Tom Gallicchio (split decision over Reggie Pena), Bellator Fighting Championships veteran Patrick Bennett (first-round knockout against Ryan Nick Smiley) and Sportfight veteran Tyson Jeffries (third-round submission over Mike Johnson).

The “M-1 Selection” tournament was broken down into global regions: Western Europe, Eastern Europe and the Americans, with each of those regions hosting three rounds and the final. Winners in each weight class will earn to right to compete on a “larger international stage,” according to M-1 officials.

M-1 Global will return to Atlantic City, N.J., on Aug. 7 with “M-1 Selection: The Americas Round 3.” Tournament matchups will be announced soon.

Province Returns, Scores 54-Second Submission

Jettisoned World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight Cole Province needed less than a minute to submit Nick Masters in the Bricktown Brawl 5 main event on Friday at the Coca Cola Events Center in Oklahoma City. The end came 54 seconds into round one.

Province -- a four-time national wrestling champion at the University of Central Oklahoma -- received a nine-month suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission following a positive test for the anabolic steroid Methasterone at WEC 42. The 29-year-old was flagged in wake of his unanimous decision victory against former Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Fredson Paixao. The result of that bout was changed to a no contest by the NSAC, which also fined Province $4,000. He claimed the positive test was the result of a tainted supplement, which he used “on a whim” to help him rehydrate.
