The 39-year-old Monson has rattled off back-to-back wins and has now secured 22 of his 36 career victories by submission. A two-time winner of the Abu Dhabi Submission Wrestling World Championships, Monson remains one of MMA’s most accomplished ground fighters. The American Top Team rep holds wins over six-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Marcio Cruz, former UFC heavyweight titleholder Ricco Rodriguez and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 winner Roy Nelson.

Guida, the 33-year-old brother of current UFC lightweight Clay Guida, has lost seven of his past eight bouts.

Other winners under the Elite Promotions banner included Denis Hernandez (first-round technical knockout over Steven Jenetis) and King of the Cage veteran Lazar Stojadinovic (round one rear-naked choke submission against Bounmy Somchay).

Campuzano Nips Garcia at King of Kombat 9

World Extreme Cagefighting veteran Will Campuzano eked out a split decision against Steve Garcia at King of Kombat 9 “Resurrection” on Friday at the Palmer Event Center in Austin, Texas. The Mexican-born 24-year-old rebounded nicely from his knockout loss to former WEC bantamweight champion Eddie Wineland in June.

Based out of the Mohler Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts camp in Coppell, Texas, Campuzano won his first six professional bouts before falling to the world-ranked Damacio Page in his WEC debut in October. He accepted the match on little more than a week’s notice and submitted to a rear-naked choke from the Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts standout.

Meanwhile, Strikeforce, Elite XC and Bellator Fighting Championships veteran Nick Gonzalez posted a unanimous decision over Tim Snyder at King of Kombat 9. “The Ghost” owns a 4-0 mark inside the Texas-based promotion.

Other winners at the event included Edwin Figueroa (second-round technical knockout over Johnny Bedford), Derrick Krantz (first-round rear-naked choke submission against Ryan Larson) and Marcus Sursa (first-round TKO over Ryan McClain).

Grandmont Outpoints Wedderburn

Canadian welterweight Martin Grandmont won for the sixth time in seven fights, as he defeated Markhaile Wedderburn by unanimous decision in the Wreck MMA “Bad Intentions” main event on Friday at the Casino du Lac-Lemay in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. Scores were 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27, all in Grandmont’s favor.

The 28-year-old Grandmont -- who has gone the distance only three times in his professional career -- holds a March 2009 knockout victory over current UFC lightweight Mark Holst. Wedderburn has lost consecutive fights and four of his last five.

Other winners at the Wreck MMA show included Stephane Bernadel (first-round knockout against Jon Williams), Tannaya Hantelman (unanimous decision over Anna Barone) and Remi Morvan (first-round arm-triangle choke submission against Chance Whalen).
