Valentina Shevchenko To Defend Title Against Liz Carmouche In August At UFC Uruguay

Valentina Shevchenko has her next title defense booked. The UFC flyweight champion will take on Liz Carmouche in the main event of UFC Uruguay according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.

Shevchenko is coming off of a head kick knockout win over Jessica Eye at UFC 238. It was the first time she defended her belt since beating Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 231 to win the vacant title.

Carmouche had been scheduled to take on Roxanne Modafferi at UFC San Antonio in July. According to Okamoto, the Las Vegas-based promotion is looking for a replacement fight for Modafferi. The 35-year-old is riding a two-fight winning streak with wins over Lucie Pudilova and Jennifer Maia. Carmouche was a part of history, as half of the first female fight in UFC history with Ronda Rousey at UFC 157 in 2013. She also has a bit of history with Shevchenko, as Carmouche actually handed Shevchenko her first professional loss back in 2010 by TKO in the C3 Fights promotion in Oklahoma.

UFC Fight Night 156 takes place at Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay on Aug. 10. The event will air on ESPN+.
