Josh Thomson is getting unfortunately re-acquainted with the injury bug.

The oft-hurt lightweight veteran has suffered an undisclosed injury that has forced him to withdraw from his scheduled May 14 bout with former Bellator MMA 155-pound champion Michael Chandler at Bellator 154 in Thomson's adopted home of San Jose, Calif. FloCombat.com first reported the news of Thomson's injury and removal from the fight on Sunday.

A replacement opponent for Chandler is currently being sought by the promotion.

The 37-year-old Thomson has long been considered one of the lightweight division's most skilled athletes, but has suffered from a wide array of injuries throughout his 15-year pro MMA career. The former Strikeforce lightweight champion re-signed with promoter Scott Coker following a second UFC stint, over which Thomson went 1-3. After losing three straight bouts to Benson Henderson, Bobby Green and Tony Ferguson, the American Kickboxing Academy fighter entered the Bellator cage, where he's put together consecutive stoppages of Mike Bronzoulis and Pablo Villaseca.

Like Thomson, Chandler recently snapped a three-fight losing skid of his own. After losing a split decision to rival Eddie Alvarez in November 2013, the former Mizzou Tiger wrestler lost consecutive bouts to now-Bellator lightweight champion Will Brooks. The 30-year-old Chandler has since taken consecutive wins with a first-round submission of Derek Campos last June, followed by a second-round knockout of David Rickels in November.
