All fighters made weight for UFC on ESPN 31, including headliners Rob Font and Jose Aldo in a pivotal bantamweight bout. However, Jared Vanderaa wasn't medically cleared for his bout against Azamat Murzakanov, and the fight was canceled as a result.
After dropping three straight fights to top competition in Alexander
Volkanovski, Marlon
Moraes and Petr Yan, Aldo
(30-7) has finally found his footing at bantamweight. "Junior" has
won two straight decisions over Marlon Vera
and Pedro
Munhoz. The former featherweight king will look to cement
himself as a contender by making it three straight. Aldo stepped on
the scale at 136 pounds, taking full advantage of the one-pound
allowance.
Undefeated since December 2018, Font (19-4) has put together four straight wins. After beating Sergio Pettis and Ricky Simon by decision, the Boston-based fighter picked up a TKO victory over Moraes. Font followed that up with a five-round decision over Cody Garbrandt. The 34-year-old officially weighed 134 pounds for his second UFC main event.
UFC on ESPN 31 will air in its entirety on ESPN and ESPN+ on Saturday. Prelims begin at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, while the main card kicks off at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
