Cain
Velasquez is looking at a potential six-month suspension
following his loss to Francis
Ngannou at
UFC on ESPN 1 last weekend.
The Arizona Department of Gaming released a full list of medical suspensions to MMAFighting.com on Wednesday. Velasquez is facing a potential 180-day sit unless he receives medical clearance. The Arizona commission does not disclose specific reasons for each fighter’s medical suspension.
UFC on ESPN 1 took place at Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix on Sunday and saw Ngannou defeat Velasquez via technical knockout just 26 seconds into their heavyweight headliner. Ngannou appeared to rock his opponent with a short uppercut, and then Velasquez’s knee buckled as he fell awkwardly to the canvas. Ngannou emerged from the bout with a clean bill of health.
Velasquez was one of nine fighters from the card who is facing a 180-day suspension. Also noteworthy, Paul Felder is sidelined indefinitely after suffering a collapsed lung late in his co-main event bout against James Vick. Felder won the fight via unanimous decision.
