UFC Vet Cobb Replaces Franca, Faces Fickett at MFC 30

Canadian promotion Maximum Fighting Championship on Thursday announced that UFC veteran Brian Cobb will face Drew Fickett in the main event of MFC 30 on June 10 as part of a multi-fight deal.

Fickett was originally supposed to face Hermes Franca for the vacant MFC lightweight title at the event, but Franca was released from his contract after he turned himself in last week on alleged charges of sexual abuse in Oregon. Though the Fickett-Cobb confrontation will still be the main event of the evening, the bout has been changed to a non-title affair.

Emanating from the Mayfield Inn Trade and Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, MFC 30 also features a lightweight confrontation between another pair of former UFC talents, as Marcus Davis squares off with Pete Spratt. Also slated for the show is a welterweight rematch between wily veteran Thomas Denny and prospect Sheldon Westcott.

A winner in 11 of his last 13 contests, Cobb (Pictured; file photo) rides back-to-back wins heading into his match with Fickett. After falling to Terry Etim in his one and only Octagon appearance in 2009, “The Bandit” was submitted in his next outing by Ricardo Tirlone. However, Cobb rebounded from the defeats to post a 2-0 record in 2010, dispatching Jonny Carson at Fight For Wrestling 2 in August before outpointing Kazunori Yokota at Sengoku 15 in October.
