Larson, 36, previously contended for both the World Extreme Cagefighting and One Fighting Championship welterweight titles, the latter of which was on the line in his most recent outing, which ended in a 25-minute decision defeat to Nobutatsu Suzuki on March 14.
The setback snapped a four-fight winning streak for the American, who competed six times in the UFC over a four-year span, ending his most recent run with the promotion in 2009. Larson owns notable victories over Mike Pyle, Melvin Manhoef and John Alessio, and he has collected 26 of his 37 victories by way of submission.
