UFC Tabs Browne-Broughton Heavyweight Matchup for Denver Card

Following a morning announcement that Jon Jones and Quinton Jackson will headline UFC 135, the promotion revealed Wednesday that heavyweights Travis Browne and Rob Broughton have also verbally agreed to collide at the Sept. 24 event.

Emanating from the Pepsi Center in Denver, UFC 135 is also expected to feature a welterweight confrontation between Matt Hughes and Diego Sanchez, as well as a heavyweight tilt pitting Ben Rothwell against Mark Hunt.

Undefeated in two-plus years as a pro, Browne has compiled a record of 2-0-1 since joining the UFC in May 2010. The Hawaiian debuted with the promotion at “The Ultimate Fighter 11” Finale, knocking out “TUF 10” alumnus James McSweeney in the first round. “Hapa” followed that win with a less impressive draw against Cheick Kongo in October. Browne would erase the memory of that bout with a resounding victory over fellow prospect Stefan Struve in his next Octagon outing, blasting the lanky Dutchman with a Superman punch and earning “Knockout of the Night” honors at UFC 130 on May 28.

Broughton has won five straight bouts heading into his showdown with Browne. A veteran of M-1 and Cage Rage competition, the Brit made his Octagon debut at UFC 120. Broughton submitted Vinicius Queiroz with a rear-naked choke in the third round to earn his first UFC win and has not fought since. Representing Wolfslair MMA Academy, the 28-year-old has finished 12 of his 15 career victims by either knockout or submission.
