UFC President Dana White Will Be ‘Super Pissed’ if GSP Doesn’t Defend Middleweight Crown

According to UFC President Dana White, Georges St. Pierre doesn’t have a lot of options if he wants to keep fighting in the Octagon.

In his first fight in four years, St. Pierre submitted Michael Bisping in the third round of the UFC 217 headliner to claim the middleweight title. While the Tristar Gym product did admit that he was contractually obligated to defend the belt, it was also preceded by the disclaimer “if I want to fight again.” Meanwhile, St. Pierre grappling coach John Danaher called the fighter’s weight-gain program a disaster and was unable to train for two weeks due to severe stomach pains and vomiting.

Rumors persist that St. Pierre would prefer to return to his natural weight class at 170 pounds.

“I don’t want to hear that. That’s not what I want to hear. I want to hear he’s gonna defend his 185-pound title,” White said during a media luncheon in Las Vegas (video courtesy of MMAjunkie.com).

“That’s the agreement we made. That’s the deal we made when we made the deal.”

One possibility for St. Pierre at 185 pounds would be a title unification bout against interim middleweight champion Robert Whittaker. However, White said that St. Pierre vs. Whittaker at UFC 221 in Perth, Australia in February isn’t necessarily part of the plan. Regardless of what happens, White will not be pleased if St. Pierre tries to break his contract to pursue other options.

“I’m gonna be super pissed, and I don’t know where we go from there. Go to 170. Who’s better to fight at 170? You got Woodley. You got ‘Wonderboy.’ You got Romero. And you got Luke Rockhold. F—-ing monsters. They’re all monsters,” White said. “There’s no fight that looks like, ‘Maybe this is the fight for me to take.’ You looked at Bisping like he was a tuneup. You got your tuneup. There’s nothing but f—-ing animals at 85 and 70.

“There’s no good options. To sit there and try to handpick people and where you want to go, you can’t in this f—-ing sport,” he continued. “They’re all nasty. You’re a fighter. Get in there and f—-ing see who you can beat. You wanted to come back, welcome back.”
