It didn’t take long for Dana White's Contender Series alum Yorgan De Castro to get an opponent for his debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The Cape Verdean heavyweight will clash with fellow UFC newcomer Justin Tafa at UFC 243. The news was first reported by MMA Junkie, and confirmed by Sherdog’s own sources.

De Castro (5-0) earned a UFC contract three weeks ago after finishing Alton Meeks in the first stanza of their encounter thanks to a vicious leg kick followed by a series of punches. The Regiment Training Center representative has won all but one of his fights inside the distance, showing some serious knockout power in his hands.

“Bad Man” Tafa (3-0) is coming under the UFC banner never having seen a third round in his career, muscling his way into the Australian regional scene with three TKO victories.

UFC 243 will go down Oct. 5 at a location still to be announced, but expected to be in Australia. At the moment, the only other fight confirmed for the event is the clash between champion Robert Whittaker and interim champion Israel Adesanya to unify the UFC middleweight title. Advertisement
