UFC Heavyweight Ruslan Magomedov Notified of Possible Doping Violation

Ruslan Magomedov’s current stay on the sidelines may last longer than anticipated.

Magomedov was tapped for a potential doping violation resulting from an out-of-competition sample collected on Sept. 7, according to Ultimate Fighting Championship officials. The 29-year-old was scheduled to face Stefan Struve at UFC 204 (live odds) in October before withdrawing with an injury. He has not competed since he defeated Shawn Jordan by unanimous decision at UFC 192 nearly a year ago.

“The UFC organization was notified that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Ruslan Magomedov of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection made on September 7, 2016,” the UFC wrote in an official statement. “USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.”

Magomedov has rattled off nine consecutive victories in a run of sustained success that includes wins over former UFC champions Tim Sylvia and Ricco Rodriguez. He owns a 14-1 career record.
