Sean Soriano vs. Chas Skelly

Round 1

Soriano gets the outside position in a clinch on the fence, but it’s Skelly with a waistlock takedown in the opening minute. As Soriano climbs back to his feet, Skelly jumps on his back and sinks one hook in. Skelly can’t secure back control but stays glued to Soriano after being shaken off. Soriano goes to his knees, then rolls over until Skelly is fully shaken off, and now it’s Soriano on top dropping elbows. Skelly tries for a heel hook, then spins to take Soriano’s back in the scramble. This time, Skelly secures the position with a body triangle before going to work on a rear-naked choke attempt. Soriano goes two-on-one on Skelly’s right hand to defend the choke, so Skelly peppers away with his left hand as the round enters its final minute. The frame ends with Soriano rolling over to top position, but he takes a hard elbow from underneath.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Skelly
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Skelly
Jeff Sherwood scores the round 10-9 Soriano

Round 2

Skelly loops a couple wide hooks around Soriano’s guard before staggering forward and failing on a long takedown attempt. Soriano is finding his mark with left hooks, but his momentum is slowed as Skelly hits him with a knee to the groin in the clinch. Referee Herb Dean pauses the action, then repositions the fighters on the ground, although Skelly scored a takedown after the foul occurred. Skelly takes Soriano’s back with both hooks, but again Soriano is able to control his opponent’s right arm and fend off the RNC. Skelly is getting closer with the choke in the final 90 seconds but still can’t get his arm underneath Soriano’s chin, and the featherweights finish the round resting on the ground.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Skelly
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Skelly
Jeff Sherwood scores the round 10-9 Skelly

Round 3

Skelly dives for a takedown, can’t get it and stands up looking exhausted. Soriano seems to be the fresher man at the start of the final round as he tags Skelly with a nice body shot, then some elbows as Skelly shoots a single-leg against the fence. Skelly drags his man to the ground and climbs on Soriano’s back once again. Soriano twists around in a body triangle and takes top position, and now Skelly switches to closed guard. A few elbows get through for Soriano as he tries to break Skelly’s posture and inflict some damage midway through the round. Skelly throws up his legs for an armbar, switches to a kneebar and manages to get top position as Soriano defends. Seconds later, Skelly is in back-mount again with a body triangle locked on. Skelly spends the final half minute working for a rear-naked choke but runs out of time.

Round 1

Beal hits a takedown away from the fence and frames up an arm-triangle choke as he tries to pass from half guard to side control. A Matsuda thwarts the submission, absorbs a few elbows and gets to his knees, then sweeps to top position. Beal tries a guillotine from underneath, can’t get it, and now Matsuda passes to side control, leaning right to left across Beal’s body. Short, grinding elbows score for Matsuda on top, but Beal is able to buck and scramble to his feet. Back on the feet, referee Mario Yamasaki wants the doctor to have a look at a cut on the outside of Matsuda’s left eye, caused by a Beal elbow strike. Matsuda is cleared to continue, and the action resumes with 1:40 on the clock. Beal catches Matsuda ducking low and hits the Bostonian with a quick pair of uppercuts. Matsuda lands a couple more outside leg kicks but whiffs when he lunges forward with wide punches. A right hand from Matsuda opens a cut on the bridge of Beal’s nose in the closing seconds.

Both men land hard right crosses in the pocket, and another one from Beal a few seconds later has Matsuda backing up. Matsuda strikes back with a single jab, another leg kick. Beal pulls up short on a three-piece combination. The bantamweights clash arms as both step in with big right hands, and now Beal ducks under a whipping high kick. Beal steps into range and walks into another hard right hand from Matsuda. A pair of punches connect for Beal before he deflects a high kick with his right glove. Matsuda goes to his back foot again, sticks a jab and wraps up Beal for a trip takedown. Matsuda winds up pulling Beal on top of him, but he’s able to move “The Real Deal” from full mount back to guard. Beal advances to full mount with 3:40 on the clock and scores with a pair of big right hands before being pushed back to Matsuda’s open guard. Matsuda threatens with an armbar to get out from underneath and now shoots a single-leg on Beal, who hits the switch to regain top position. Halfway through the final round, Beal sits in Matsuda’s guard and buries his face in his opponent’s chest. Beal advances to half guard, then full mount, where he socks Matsuda with a couple heavy right hands. Again, Matsuda is able to kick Beal back to guard. Beal isn’t doing much with top position, but Matsuda is just clinging on from underneath. After eating a few left hands, Matsuda tries to push off the fence with his feet and escape, but Beal is heavy on top. Ninety seconds in, Natal tags Camozzi with a long left hand, but Camozzi snaps back and hits the Brazilian with a pair of punches and a hard leg kick inside. Natal tries to grab a single-leg, can’t keep hold, and instead hits Camozzi with a right hook to the gut. A right upstairs bloodies the nose of Camozzi, who defends a takedown attempt with his back to the fence. The fighters separate midway through the round. Camozzi ducks under a wide right hand but gets taken down anyway as Natal powers into a big double-leg near the fence. Natal moves to take his kneeling opponent’s back, then stays glued to Camozzi as the American gets back up. Camozzi powers back to his feet and turns Natal against the fence, trying for a trip takedown of his own. Natal grabs the fence to defend, drawing a warning from referee Keith Peterson. The middleweights break and meet in the center of the cage, and now it’s Natal diving for another takedown attempt. Jacare hooks Mousasi’s left leg, can’t trip him up, and now the 185ers reach an early stalemate in the clinch. Souza takes a couple elbows to the side of the head before hitting a takedown at the midway point of the round. Mousasi throws a couple right hands from underneath while Souza works to pass to side control. Suddenly, Souza has to stand up and extract himself from a triangle attempt from Mousasi, who nearly catches Jacare with an upkick on the way back to the ground. Active off his back with elbows and punches, Mousasi switches to trying to elevate Souza and escape. Souza stays heavy, pushes Mousasi to the fence and stands to sock “The Dreamcatcher” in the mouth with a right hand on the way down. Souza stands to try and pass, dodges a few upkicks and then comes back to cross side control on Mousasi’s left side. With one minute left in the round, Souza commits to the kimura again, now straddling Mousasi’s head and cranking the arm. Mousasi resists and finally frees his arm with about 10 seconds to go.
