UFC Fight Night Medical Suspensions: Thiago Alves Faces Potential 6-Month Layoff

Welterweight Thiago Alves could be out of action for six months thanks to the thrashing he received from Carlos Condit in the pair’s UFC Fight Night headlining clash.

The Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) on Monday released its list of medical suspensions from the event, which took place May 30 at Goiania Arena in Goiania, Brazil. Alves, who was deemed unfit to continue after suffering a broken nose in the second round, has been suspended for 180 days or until medically to resume competition. Condit received a 45-day suspension with no contact in training for 30 days.

The event’s only other potential six-month suspension was given to debuting English welterweight Tom Breese, who scored a first-round knockout of Luiz Jorge Dutra Jr. but injured his left hand in the process. Breese must be cleared by a doctor with an X-ray of the hand before he can return.
