UFC Fight Night 189 Loses Alessio Di Chirico-Roman Dolidze Matchup

One of the more interesting Ultimate Fighting Championship fights on its early June card is no longer on the books.

According to Roman Dolidze (8-1) on his Instagram on Thursday, opponent Alessio Di Chirico (13-5) is out of their UFC Fight Night 189 middleweight matchup due to an injury. Per Dolidze, he is still trying to remain on the card in a few weeks, but according to MMA Fighting, the pairing may be rebooked in August.

Georgian powerhouse Dolidze is looking to rebound from his first career defeat, when he dropped a decision to Trevin Giles in March. Before the Giles meeting, “The Caucasian” rattled off eight consecutive wins, including two inside the Octagon over Khadis Ibragimov and John Allan. Dolidze surged his way into the UFC with six straight stoppage victories, with most taking place in the Ukrainian World Warriors Fighting Championship promotion.

The 31-year-old out of Italy snapped a three-fight skid by blasting Joaquin Buckley with a head kick in January. When he returns to action, Di Chirico will be aiming to lift his UFC record to .500. Since joining the UFC ranks in 2016 with a flawless 9-0 record with eight stoppages among them, Di Chirico has beaten the likes of Julian Marquez, the aforementioned Buckley and Oluwale Bamgbose.

UFC Fight Night 189 will take place on June 5 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, with an overstuffed show capped off by a heavyweight tilt between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Augusto Sakai. Other heavyweight clashes between Marcin Tybura and Walt Harris along with Ilir Latifi vs. Tanner Boser bolster the main card.
