UFC Fight Night 172 Weigh-in Results: Main Card Official; Vettori, Faber Set as Alternates

There is some uncertainty surrounding Saturday’s fight card, as a late replacement as well as two alternates have offered their services during this convoluted weigh-in period.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s second event this week will be headlined by a heavyweight scrap between Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris. All fighters to hit the scales for UFC Fight Night 172 have made weight and the event is relatively official.

Unlike his opponent, Overeem (45-18, 1 NC) is coming off a loss. “The Demolition Man” had largely dominated Jairzinho Rozenstruik until being knocked out with just four seconds left in the fifth round. Prior to the defeat, Overeem had put together TKO wins over Alexey Oleynik and Sergei Pavlovich. He’ll look to get back into the win column and came in at 253.5 pounds.

Harris (13-7, 1 NC) is on a four-fight unbeaten streak with knockout wins over Oleynik, Sergey Spivak, and Daniel Spitz. In between those impressive victories sits an overturned decision win against former heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski that was reversed due to Harris testing positive for ligandrol. Slightly heavier than usual, Harris weighed in at 264.5 pounds.

Although every fighter that stepped on the scales made weight, late replacement Irwin Rivera is being withheld to pass medicals and take a coronavirus test, and he will weigh in later. Marvin Vettori (203.5) weighed in despite his middleweight match with Karl Roberson getting scratched, and he will remain as an alternate even though no light heavyweight bouts are scheduled for the event. Also, Urijah Faber (153.5) came in as a potential substitute for Yadong Song. ESPN reported that Song is currently embroiled in visa issues and may not be able to compete against Marlon Vera at featherweight.

UFC Fight Night 172’s preliminary action kicks off at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT on both ESPN and ESPN+. The main card will start at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
