ESPN was first to confirm the booking. UFC Fight Night 171 takes place at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, on May 13 and is headlined by a light heavyweight clash between Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira. The card is expected to air on ESPN and ESPN+.
Benitez, who has competed at featherweight for the duration of his UFC tenure, will move up to 155 pounds for his matchup with Morales. The 31-year-old Mexico native had a two-bout winning streak snapped in his most recent outing when he suffered a first-round TKO loss to Sodiq Yusuff at UFC 241. “Moggly” is 5-3 during his tenure with the Las Vegas-based promotion and 21-7 as a professional overall.
After earning a contract on Season 3 of Dana White’s Contender Series, Morales debuted in the Octagon with a unanimous decision triumph over Dong Hyun Ma at UFC Fight Night 165 on Dec. 21. The 34-year-old Venezuelan fighter is 9-0 as a professional, with seven wins coming via knockout, technical knockout or submission.
