Heili Alateng vs. Ryan Benoit

Round 1

Benoit starts things off with a front kick as both fighters are tentative to engage early. Benoit moves forward and lands a hard body kick. Moments later, the American connects with an inside low kick. A straight left backs up Alateng. The bantamweights clinch in the center of the Octagon and Alateng pushes Benoit into the fence. They break quickly and Alateng whiffs on a right hook. Benoit follows a straight left with a hard left liver kick. Benoit attacks the body again with a kick and Alateng briefly grimaces and drops his elbow. Benoit presses forward and lands a superman punch. Alateng picks up the pace but can’t find the range on a combination. Benoit responds with a hook to the body. A high kick by Benoit is blocked. A straight right by Alateng snaps Benoit’s head bck. Benoit steps in with a short right hook and then goes back to the well and lands another left body kick. Late in the frame, Alateng buckles Benoit with a right hand. Alateng stuffs a takedown before time expires but eats a left at the horn. 10-9 Benoit.

Round 2

Benoit lands a one-two and goes right back to landing a body kick. The American keeps the pressure on, landing a straight left as he stalks Alateng. A right hand over the top connects for Benoit. Alateng fires back with a straight right of his own. Benoit continues to land his left body kick effectively. Benoit goes upstairs with a high kick and briefly pressures forward with a punching flurry. Alateng fires back and backs Benoit up before landing a body kick. A left jab lands clean for Benoit and Alateng backs up. Alateng lands an inside low kick. Both fighters land at the same time during an exchange, but it’s Alateng who lands a right with more authority. Benoit eats another right hand and his bleeding from the bridge of his nose. Alateng is the aggressor, as he lands with a combination. Benoit goes back to the body kick and lands again. Alateng with a straight right to the body and follows up with a one-two. Benoit gets overaggressive and Alateng lands a nice counter before stepping off at an angle. In the final 10 seconds, Alateng lands a solid straight right. Benoit stumbles back toward the cage in a daze, but Alateng can’t follow up with more offense before the frame ends. 10-9 Alateng.

Round 3

Benoit comes out moving forward, so Alateng changes levels and gets an early takedown. Alateng sets up in his opponent’s full guard, where he works some moderate punches to the ribs. Benoit scrambles up but Alateng maintains a body lock. Benoit frees himself and they’re back in the center of the cage. Alateng shoots for a takedown and ensnares Benoit in a body lock. He picks up Benoit and dumps him on the canvas near the fence. Benoit stands but can’t shake Alateng, who has adopted a different approach in this frame. Alateng quickly tries for a single leg and eventually trips Benoit to the mat. Benoit stays active from his back before hustling to his feet. Alateng clings to a single leg but Benoit scrambles up again and snaps a jab in his foe’s face. Benoit follows another jab with a left hook and then he fends off a takedown attempt. Benoit has a high kick blocked and stuffs a takedown, landing a knee before the break. They trade in the pocket and Benoit lands a couple hard shots in the exchange. Alateng drops for a single and eats some punches to the head as Benoit maintains his balance in the final seconds. 10-9 Alateng (29-28 Alateng).

Miranda Granger vs. Amanda Lemos

Round 1

Granger lands a right hand during an initial exchange. Lemos attacks the legs with a pair of low kicks, and Grange forces a tie-up. However, it’s Lemos who has a body lock and trips her foe to the mat. Lemos is in half guard near the fence. Granger is active with her guard, but Lemos stays heavy from above and unloads about three right hands. Granger appears to be framing an armbar, but she eats some hard punches to the head and body for her efforts. Lemos stands as Granger tries to attack for an ankle lock. Lemos grabs the fence and gets a warning before dropping a hammerfist to the head. Lemos lands a couple more hard punches to the face as Granger clings to a leg against the cage. Lemos assumes top control and locks in a modified rear-naked choke. Lemos is off to one side instead of in full back control, but the squeeze is tight nonetheless. Granger goes out in a matter of seconds and this strawweight fight is over.

Said Nurmagomedov vs. Raoni Barcelos

Round 1

Barcelos comes forward throwing massive rights hands over the top and Nurmagomedov counters with a spinning elbow that misses. Nurmagomedov follows a low kick with a spinning back fist that does connect. Nurmagomedov is threatening with plenty of flashy strikes in the early going. Barcelos lands a hard low kick. Nurmagomedov has bloodied Barcelos’ mouth with his jab. Barcelos counters a low kick with a body kick. Barcelos spins his foe around with a low kick. Nurmagomedov goes back to the drop. They trade heavy shots in close quarters for a moment. Barcelos secures a rear waistlock with about 1:00 remaining. Nurmagomedov is able to break free and he lands a glancing spinning back fist. They clinch just before the bell. 10-9 Nurmagomedov.

Round 2

Barcelos pumps his jab and follows with a low kick. A spinning back fist lands clean for Nurmagomedov. The bantamweights trade jabs. Nurmagomedov lands a spinning back kick to the body. Barcelos, meanwhile, forces Nurmagomedov to switch stances with hard low kick. They clinch briefly and Barcelos lands a body kick on the break. A right hand over the top connects for the Brazilian. Nurmagomedov finds the range on a body kick. The combatants trade low kicks before Barcelos fires an overhand right, but it doesn’t land clean. Barcelos goes back tot he low kick and he spins Nurmagomedov around again. Barcelos has a body lock as he attempts to drag his opponent to the canvas. Nurmagomedov posts his hands in an effort to remain upright. Nurmagomedov lands a couple short back elbows from this position, and Barcelos responds with a series of punches to the face. Barcelos continues to cling to the body lock with less than a minute to go. The Brazilian lands some more rights to the side of the head before jumping on Nurmagomedov’s back with both hooks in. Nurmagomedov stands with less than 30 seconds remaining. Nurmagomedov will end the frame carrying Barcelos weight on his back. 10-9 Barcelos.

Round 3

Barcelos pressures and ducks under another spinning attack from Nurmagomedov. Nurmagomedov counters a low kick with a spinning back fists. The Brazilian blocks a spinning high kick moments later. Barcelos lands a snapping straight right. Barcelos forces a clinch after ducking under a spinning back fist. Barcelos lands a knee and an some elbows in close. They separate and both fighters swing big before returning to the center of the Octagon. Barcelos counters a jab with a low kick. Nurmagomedov lands a solid overhand right. Barcelos catches a leg on a spinning back kick and takes Nurmagomedov down. Barcelos ties up his opponent’s leg in half guard with about 1:30 left. Barcelos stays busy, landing punches to the body and head. Nurmagomedov answers with offense from his back. Barcelos frames an arm triangle choke near the fence before transitioning to Nurmagomedov’s back in a scramble. Nurmagomedov explodes to his feet in the waning seconds and spends the end of the round unsuccessfully hunting for a takedown against the cage. 10-9 Barcelos (29-28 Barcelos).

Alexandre Pantoja vs. Matt Schnell

Round 1

Pantoja immediately tags Schnell with a jab. They trade furiously and Schnell is buckled. They keep swinging wildly before Schnell shoots for a takedown. Pantoja defends and now they’re back in the center of the cage. Pantoja comes forward with a right hand that connects. The Brazilian is swinging with a purpose against his former “TUF 24” castmate. A hard low kick lands for the Brazilian. Schnell counters with a combination and then wobbles Pantoja briefely in an exchange. Pantoja executes a body-lock takedown and sets up in full guard. Schnell stays busy with punches and elbows from his back. Schnell scrambles up and the flyweights trade more heavy shots. Schnell counters an overhand with a combination. Pantoja catches a low kick and puts Schnell on his back, dropping a heavy punch from above. Pantoja clears his foe’s legs and moves to side control before Schnell recovers half guard. Schnell scrambles up with about 1:00 to go. The flyweights continue to trade liberally in the pocket, and it’s Pantoja who catches Schnell rushing forward with a right hand over the top. Schnell falls face first to the canvas and Pantoja needs to land only one more follow-up shot before referee Marc Goddard intervenes to call a halt to the flyweight contest.

Omar Antonio Morales Ferrer vs. Dong Hyun Ma

Round 1

It’s a raucous reception for Ma at the outset of this lightweight contest. Morales goes upstairs with a high kick, but Ma is able to block the attack. A heavy right hand lands for Morales. Morales catches a kick and puts Ma on his back. Morales dives into top position and drops an elbow. Ma recovers full guard and Morales lands a punch to the body. Ma is working to frame a kimura from his back, and the action has stalled somewhat from this position as Morales defends. Ma lets go of his foe’s wrist and Morales remains on top. Ma looks for the kimura again, and Morales defends while landing a few punches to the ribs. Ma relinquishes the hold and Morales stands in full guard before diving back in with heavy ground-and-pound. Morales ends the period in top position. 10-9 Morales.

Round 2

Ma blocks a body kick by Morales. Ma lands a low kick. Ma comes with a hard straight left and Morales counters with a combination. Another right hand lands for Ma. Morales checks a low kick and returns fire with a body kick and a yell. A side kick to the midsection lands for Morales. It’s been a very measured pace this round, with both fighters hesitant to commit to much in the way of offense. Morales steps in with a one-two and eats a counter right hook. Ma pressures and lands a left to the body. A counter right cross from Morales is blocked. A straight right gets through for Morales and he just misses on a follow-up high kick. Morales lands a body kick with time winding down before leaping forward with a jumping knee that Ma is able to block. 10-10.

Round 3

Ma counters a kick with a straight left. Morales fires off a combination and misses with a high kick at the conclusion of the attack. Morales drops Ma with a spectacular spinning heel kick to the face. Morales follows his foe to the mat and rains down hammerfists. Ma looks to control his foe and regain his senses. Morales escapes a guillotine and stays heavy from above. Ma is still on his back utilizing a full guard with 1:00 remaining. Morales stands and drops some heavy hammerfists as Ma attempts to create space with his legs. Morales is back in top position as Ma threatens with a kimura. Morales moves to the back with 15 seconds left. Ma escapes and stands with 10 seconds left. The South Korean fighter can’t mount a last second salvo before the horn. 10-9 Morales (30-28 Morales).

Suman Mokhtarian vs. Sung Woo Choi

Round 1

Mokhtarian opens up with a big right hand over the top after a Choi kick. Choi counters a leg kick with a two-punch combination. Choi backs up Mokhtarian with a combination and a front kick to the chin. Choi is pressuring nicely, and he lands a high kick that has Mokhtarian stumbling away. They clinch and Choi is unloading with elbows in tight before the Korean pushes his man into the fence. Choi lands some knees to the gut, much to the delight of the crowd. Choi picks up the pace, landing a knee to the face in between a rapid-fire series of knees to the body. Referee Greg Kleynjans pauses the action and takes a point from Choi after two prior warnings for grabbing the fence. Choi also loses the position and the action is restarted. Mokhtarian fires a right over the top. Choi pressures with kicks and punching combinations near the fence. Choi just misses a head kick. Mokhtarian forces a tie-up and pushes his foe into the cage. Choi gets an underhook, turns his foe around and lands an elbow on the break. 9-9.

Round 2

Choi immediately applies pressure, perhaps realizing the deduction cost him the previous round. Mokhtarian with an inside low kick. Choi lands a two punch combination, then follows up with a kick. Choi flurries against the fence as Mokhtarian covers up. Mokhtarian circles away and Choi continues to tee off. Mokhtarian goes down and hunts for an ankle lock as Choi attempts to attack from top position. Choi is able to flatten out his opponent and land some punches and elbows from above. Time is called so Mokhtarian can have his mouthguard, and the action is restarted with Choi on top. Choi creates space and busts Mokhtarian open with a barrage of short elbows. Choi stands and lets Mokhtarian return to his feet. Choi counters a kick with a combination. A right hand lands for Mokhtarian. Choi with a hard body kick, but he can’t land a flying knee before the horn. 10-8 Choi.

Round 3

The combatants trade kicks early. Choi backs his foe up with a solid straight right. Another combination lands for the South Korean. Mokhtarian counters a low kick with a right hand. Choi keeps the pressure on, landing another quick combination. Mokhtarian accidentally pokes Choi in the eye and the fight is paused. Choi is given the OK by a doctor and Mokhtarian presses the action with some wide shots. Choi is back on the attack, but it’s Mokhtarian who briefly puts his foe on wobbly legs. Mokhtarian looks to capitalize but is reversed on a takedown, as Choi winds up in side control. Mokhtarian recovers half guard as Choi works to stay busy. He finds room for some short punches and elbows. Choi picks up the pace, dropping more elbows from above. Mokhtarian looks resigned to this position with 30 seconds to go. Choi drops more elbows as Mokhtarian covers up. Choi ends the round landing more effective elbows and punches from above. 10-9 Choi (29-26 Choi).

Ciryl Gane vs. Tanner Boser

Round 1

Boser fires off a low kick at the outset. Gane is moving well, switching stances occasionally. Gane lands a front kick to the midsection as Boser moves on the outside. Boser catches a kick but Gane eludes the counter. A right cross connects for Gane. Gane lands a body kick and then a job. Gane lands again in an exchange as Boser is caught off balance while throwing a kick. An overhand right from Boser lands on the back of the head as Gane moves in. Gane steps in and lands a glancing right hook. Gane follows a jab with a nice uppercut down the pipe. Gane grabs the clinch following a lead right hook, lands a knee and then separates. They clinch briefly before Boser shoves Gane away at the bell. 10-9 Gane.

Round 2

Boser with a solid low kick. Gane changes levels as Boser charges forward, but the Canadian defends the takedown. Gane lands a solid left hand. Boser appears to be bleeding from his right eye. Gane connects with a body kick. The Frenchman counters Boser with a right hook, but Boser briefly buckles his man with a low kick. Gane responds with a hard body kick. Gane lands a front kick to the midesction and then blocks an overhand right. Gane rocks Boser with a punch and stalks patiently. Gane pressures forward and lands another hard body kick. Boser answers with an inside low kick. Gane lands a one two, and Boser counters with a left hook to the body. Gane lands a knee to the body during a brief tie-up. A counter left connects for Gane in a close quarters exchange. Gane backs up Boser with a jab, then keeps him on the retreat with a powerful left hand. 10-9 Gane.

Round 3

Boser charges forward with a combination but is stopped in his tracks by a right hand by Gane. Gane steps in with a knee to the gut and dodges a counter offering. Boser catches a kick, but Gane leaps in and frees his leg before he can be taken down. A hard front kick backs Boser up. A right uppercut left hook combo lands for Gane. Gane lands a couple solid jabs as he continues to apply pressure. Boser attempts to work his way in but his punches miss the mark, and Gane answers with a crisp jab. Gane connects with a multi-punch combination near the fence. Boser circles away and Gane steps in with a knee to the midsection. Gane lands a jab and then follows up with a switch knee to the head. Gane remains in pursuit, tagging his man with a left jab and a right uppercut. Boser is on his bicycle as time winds down. Gane closes the fight with a knee to the gut and an uppercut. 10-9 Gane (30-27 Gane).

Kyung Ho Kang vs. Pingyuan Liu

Round 1

Liu fires off a hard low kick to his foe’s lead leg. Kang beautifully times a level change and puts Liu on his back in the center of the cage. Liu is doing a solid job of neutralizing Kang from his back thus far. Liu with a slashing elbow from his back. Kang remains heavy on top, though he isn’t able to land a lot of offense so far. Liu briefly looks to frame a guillotine but Kang escapes. The crowd is firmly behind Kang the fighters slide toward the fends. Liu scrambles to his feet but is tripped back to the canvas almost immediately. Liu is doing a decent job of landing some elbows from his back as we enter the final minute of the round. Kang drops a few punches and elbows before the horn. 10-9 Kang.

Round 2

Kang counters a low kick with a head kick that has Liu backing up instantly. Moments later, Kang lands a beautiful takedown less than 30 seconds into the round. Once again, Liu is fairly active from his back, landing elbows and working to escape. Liu is bleeding near his left eye, but he continues to throw elbows from his back. Kang is content to maintain a methodical approach from top position. Liiu attempts to push off the fence with his legs, but Kang is still inside his full guard. Liu attempts to push Kang off him, but the Busan native is smothering. Liu is now seated against the fence, but Kang is able to drag his hips away and settle back into full guard. Liu again scoots toward the fence, but Kang drives his head into his foe’s chin while landing some shots to the face. The round ends with Liu holding on to a choke. Kang gives a quick thumbs up and the bell sounds. 10-9 Kang.

Round 3

Kang with a front kick to the midsection and Liu presses forward with a punching combination followed by a low kick. Kang lands a thudding low kick. Liu leaps in with a knee and Kang attempts to change levels for a takedown. Liu is able to separate from the clinch. Liu lands a one two, stuffs a takedown attempt and lands another right. Liu stuffs a takedown and spins around to the side of Kang, where he lands some hard knees before the combatants stand. Liu stumbles backward and falls to the mat, and Kang capitalizes by assuming top position. Kang is back where he’s been most of the fight with 2:00 remaining in the fight. Kang stands and Liu has busted his foe wide open with his elbows from the bottom. Kang is bleeding profusely while working from top position. Kang is throwing with more urgency from top position as the round ends. 10-9 Liu (29-28 Kang).

Jun Yong Park vs. Marc-Andre Barriault

Round 1

Barriault steps in with a right hand. Park punctuates a combination with an uppercut that gets through his opponent’s guard. Park lands a couple low kicks to Barriault’s lead leg. The Canadian connects with a body kick and then the middleweights trade low kicks. An eye poke from Barriault brings a halt to the bout. The action resumes and Barriault steps in with an overhand right but is countered by a left hook. Park aggressively attacks with a pair of combinations before changing levels for a takedown. Park secures a front headlock on the floor. He circles to the back as Barriault stands, but the Canadian is able to break free. A left jab gets through for Park. Park lands a few nicely timed counter uppercuts, then answers a level change with a knee to the midsection. Barriault lands a one-two but is answered with a low kick. A counter right lands for Park in another exchange. 10-9 Park.

Round 2

Park continues to counter well when Barriault attacks. Park throws a head kick followed by a knee against the fence before taking his opponent down. Barriault stands quickly as Park looks to take the back. Park maintains a body lock against the fence. Park drags Barriault back down to the floor briefly. Barriault doesn’t stay down long, and he eventually breaks Park’s grip with 2:00 to go. The fighters trade low kicks. Another low kick by Barriault makes Park stumble forward. Park lands a couple jabs and an uppercut, but Barriault defends the ensuing takedown. Barriault walks down Park, but he has several overhands blocked. Park sticks a jab before the horn. 10-9 Park.

Round 3

Barriault charges out of his corner and lands a right hand early. Park times a level change and drives Barriault into the fence. Park has a rear body lock, but they separate quickly. Barriault is marching forward throwing power shots, but he isn’t connecting. They tie up and Park lands some uppercuts in close. Barriault finds the range on a pair of low kicks. The Canadian remains in pursuit of his foe as Park continues to circle away. Barriault shoots against the fence but Park defends and grabs his foe’s neck. Park gives up on the choke and backs away. Another couple solid low kicks land for Barriault. Barriault has the proper urgency in the waning moments, but he’s not landing enough behind his pressure. Park sticks Barriault with a few jabs late in the round. 10-9 Barriault (29-28 Park).

Da Un Jung vs. Mike Rodriguez

Round 1

Rodriguez begins working a variety of kicks in the early going before a quick straight right connects for Jung. Moments later, another straight right from Jung lands clean and Rodriguez crumbles to the canvas, and the South Korean dives in with more punches on his dazed foe. The second punch from Jung puts Rodriguez out, and the Korean Top Team member lands a couple more blows before referee Marc Goddard can halt the contest.

Doo Ho Choi vs. Charles Jourdain

Round 1

Choi stalks his foe right away and he fires off a one-two. The featherweights clinch and Jourdain lands some body shots before they separate. Choi lands a powerful uppercut to the body. Choi steps in with a knee and Jourdain responds with a jump knee which the South Korean avoids. They clinch after a Jourdain leaping knee, and Jourdain digs to the body again. Choi wobbles Jourdain with a counter left hook, but Jourdain seems to have recovered. A low kick from Choi makes his man stumble, and “The Korean Super Boy” drops his opponent with a punch. Choi follows his opponent to the canvas. He stands and looks to land some ground-and-pound. Choi clears the legs and works to take Jourdain’s back. They separate and Choi follows a front kick with a spinning back fist. Choi continues to pressure and absorbs a body kick. Jourdain with a jumping knee, but Choi eats it with no problem. Choi forces a tie up but misses a punch on the break. They clinch again and Jourdain lands a knee. Jourdain drops Choi late in the frame. Choi hangs on until the horn sounds. 10-9 Choi.

Round 2

Choi again comes with the forward pressure and absorbs a body kick and a jab to the body from Jourdain. The featherweights both land right hands. Jourdain goes back to the body kick and then follows up with an overhand left. Choi lands a couple solid rights in an exchange. Choi marches forward with another straight right followed by an uppercut. Jourdain circles away and then attacks with an effectively combination. Choi is unsuccessful on a flying knee. Choi catches Jourdain coming forward with a short right. A quick left jab connects for Choi. Jourdain pressures and lands a glancing uppercut, while Choi counters with a spinning back fist. A straight left from Jourdain lands directly on the chin and buckles Choi’s legs. A follow-up right hook to the side of the head sends “Korean Super Boy” to the canvas, and Jourdain punctuates his victory with a few follow-up punches on the mat.

Volkan Oezdemir vs. Aleksandar Rakic

Round 1

Rakic comes out with power punches immediately before transitioning to a guillotine. He puts on the squeeze for a few seconds before Oezdemir escapes. They continue to jockey for position against the fence. Both men swing wildly on the break. A hard body kick lands for Rakic, but Oezdemir pressures, swinging heavy leather. Nothing connects. A short left lands for Oezdemir. Oezdemir moves in but he is countered by Rakic. Rakic goes low for a single leg, dodges a punch and trips the Swiss fighter to the canvas. Rakic maintains a body lock as Oezdemir returns to his feet. Rakic presses Oezdmir into the fence and absorbs some elbows to the side of the head. Oezdemir lands a knee and they separate with heavy punches. Rakic lands an uppercut-left hook combination. The light heavyweights trade low kicks. A right from Rakic counters an Oezdemir flying knee and the round ends. 10-9 Rakic.

Round 2

Oezdemir with a hard low kick to begin. Rakic answers with one of his own. A right hand snaps Oezdemir’s head back. Rakic has some unusual swelling below the knee on his left leg as a result of the low kicks. Rakic throws a left high kick that lands on the chest of his opponent. Raick with a glancing right hand and then he tries for a single leg, attacking with punches as Oezdemir attempts to escape. Rakic presses Oezdemir into the fence and Oezdemir lands some elbows to the side of the head. Rakic lands a short right hook on the break. Rakic catches a low kick, but he can’t do anything with it as Oezdemir demonstrates good balance. Rakic jabs and avoids the follow-up offering from Oezdemir. Oezdemir kicks at the leg of Rakic again. Rakic lands an uppercut in an exchange. Rakic counters with his back to the fence and then secures a body lock. The Austrian presses Oezdemir into the cage. The light heavyweights trade big punches on the break. Another low kick from Oezdemir. Rakic lands a left jab. A right uppercut momentarily backs up Oezdemir. Rakic tries for a takedown but Oezdemir shrugs him off. A short left hook is clean for Rakic. Rakic jabs to the body and then throws a right hand. Oezdemir ties up his foe and lands an uppercut and knee in close. Rakic lands a right and Oezdemir nods him on. Rakic blocks a high kick. Rakic changes levels but Oezdemir defends the takedown, landing elbows with his back to the fence. Rakic hangs on as time winds dow. Oezdemir lands some more short elbows and they separate before the horn. 10-9 Rakic (30-27 Rakic).

Frankie Edgar vs. Chan Sung Jung

Round 1

Edgar begins with a low kick, as he moves in and out. Jung stuffs a takedown but absorbs a low kick. Jung stuns Edgar with a short left hook in an exchange and “The Answer” is already on wobbly legs. Jung stays patient until he finds an opening, and he sends Edgar tumbling back to his seat with another left hook. Jung flurries with ground-and-pound before taking the former champ’s back. He flattens out Edgar and unloads with punches to the side of the head. Marc Goddard urges Edgar to work as Jung maintains a dominant position, attacking with more punches. Edgar backs his way to the fence and works his way to his knees. “The Korean Zombie” is still attached to his back and Edgar is bleeding. Edgar finally escapes and gets to his feet only to absorbs more shots. Jung lands an uppercut, a left hook and a right hand to rock the New Jersey native. Edgar falls forward to the mat and Jung lands a few mroe follow-up punches until Goddard has finally seen enough. Massive win for “The Korean Zombie” in front of his home fans.
