Middleweight contender John Phillips lived up to his nickname as he destroyed Macedonia’s Alen Amedovski as soon as their fight began in the UFC Fight Night 160 featured preliminary contest.

The two met in the center of the cage and stood toe-to-toe, launching monstrous punches from all angles. But when “The Welsh Wrecking Machine” dropped his foe with a left hook, he finished him off with a tidal wave of follow-up punches.

The exciting end came in just 14 seconds, igniting the Copenhagen, Denmark, capacity crowd in the process.

Muradov Defeats Reeling Di Chirico

Middleweight Makhmud Muradov made history as not only the first fighter from Uzbekistan to fight in the UFC; he also became the first to score a win.

Muradov (23-6) landed several powerful punches onto the head and body of Italy’s Alessio Di Chirico and controlled the pace throughout. Di Chirico (12-4) had his moments, though, as he wobbled Muradov in the third with a crisp right-left to the cranium, but he couldn’t capitalize on it. Muradov rallied late in the third and was awarded a unanimous decision win with scores of 29-28 across the board.

Naurdiev Dominates Bahadurzada

Ismail Naurdiev was a dominant force in his welterweight showdown with Siyar Bahadurzada, as he did virtually whatever he wanted for three rounds. Naurdiev (19-3) landed several stiff jabs, scattered left hooks and multiple takedowns.

Bahadurzada (24-8-1) was never able to get into a groove offensively and when he was taken down, all he could was defend. In the end, “The Austrian Wonderboy” won handily, winning a unanimous nod via tallies of 30-26 and 30-25 (twice).

Chikadze Impressive in Octagon Debut

Glory Kickboxing veteran Giga Chikadze looked solid in his UFC debut against betting favorite Brandon Davis, but he didn’t walk out of the Octagon with the win.

Chikadze (7-2-1) landed several powerful low kicks behind a stiff jab, but Davis (10-7-1) was able to take the Georgian down multiple times. Davis didn’t do much with each takedown and was clearly out-struck on the feet, but the three cage-side judges couldn’t agree on a winner; at first.

One official had it 29-28 for Chikadze, the second turned in the same score for Davis and the third somehow scored it 29-29, resulting in a lousy split draw. After the commission reviewed the scorecards, a correction was issued: Giga Chikadze def. Brandon Davis via split decision with official tallies of 29-28, 28-29 and 29-28.

Massive Underdog Hands Chiasson First Loss

One of the biggest betting underdogs on the entire card, Lina Lansberg dispatched previously unbeaten Macy Chiasson (5-1) over three rounds.

Lansberg (10-4) used a powerful clinch game and a few takedowns to thwart Chiasson’s attacks and wound up winning the judges’ decision. The fight was largely a clinch battle, which resulted in a lack of raw action, but “Elbow Queen” won via tallies of 29-27 (twice) and 29-28.

Resurgent Diakiese Outpoints Vannata

After struggling through three losses in a row, lightweight veteran Marc Diakiese changed things up and scored a win over Joseph Duffy. On Saturday, “Bonecrusher” looked better than he has in years as he dominated Lando Vannata for three rounds.

Diakiese (14-3) used superb low kicks and timely punching to offset Vannata’s offense and in the third, he took “Groovy” Lando down repeatedly. Vannata (10-4-2) never found a rhythm and it allowed the Englishman to coast to a surprisingly easy unanimous decision win.

Two judges favored Diakiese 30-27 while the third had it 30-26.

Shore Nabs Late Finish of Hernandez

Welsh bantamweight Jack Shore had been tearing up the Cage Warriors roster and looked just as fierce in his UFC debut on Saturday as he tore up Nohelin Hernandez.

Shore (12-0) scored multiple takedowns in the contest and dominated his foe on the ground. “Tank” ended things midway through third, though, when he slowly worked his way to Hernandez’s back and slapped on a rear-naked choke against the cage. Hernandez (9-4) was unable to escape and tapped out, halting the duel at 2:51 of the frame.
