Mitch Gagnon vs. Cole Smith

Round 1

The first fight of the night is a bantamweight bout between Cole Smith and Mitch Gagnon. The official in charge of the action is Kevin MacDonald. They touch gloves and the fight begins. Gagnon takes the centre of the Octagon and immediately shoots for a double leg takedown. Smith is doing a good job of defending it and threatens with a kimura in defense. They wrestle along the cage until Gagnon breaks free of the kimura and takes Smith’s back standing. Smith is able to get out of thad bad position and reverses and is now looking for a double leg takedown of his own. Smith completes the takedown. Gagnon immediately gets back to his feet but Smith continues to hold onto him. Gagnon threatens with a guillotine, Smith gets out of it, and they finally break. Smith starts landing low kicks on Gagnon, who connects with a left hook. Another low kick by Smith. He goes high but Gagnon blocks it. Smith with a left hook and Gagnon returns fire with an overhand right. Kick to the body by Smith. He clinches Gagnon and pushes him against the cage. Smith lands a hard knee to the body from the clinch. He continues to hold Gagnon against the cage until the end of the round, finishing the round by breaking free and landing a couple low kicks before the bell.

Round 2

Round two begins. Gagnon immediately marches forward and lands a low kick of his own. Smith returns with a low kick of his own. Gagnon with a kick to the body and then lands a spinning back fist. Smith lands a low kick. Another low kick by Smith. Kick to the body by Smith. He goes high and Gagnon blocks it. Low kick by Smith. Gagnon with a jab. He lands a left hook and then an elbow, and uses it to get inside and clinch Smith along the fence. Smith reverses it and then takes Gagnon to the back with a body lock takedown. He immediately takes the back of Gagnon and is threatening with a body triangle. Smith is looking for the rear-naked choke. Gagnon is defending nicely so far but Smith has over a minute left to work. Smith is working on a neck crank but Gagnon fights out of it. Smith moves into full mount and then back into back control. He slips off and Gagnon ends the round on top.

Round 3

Third and final round and Gagnon needs a finish if he wants to get his hand raised. He comes out immediately and lands a right hook on Smith. Gagnon marches down Smith and lands a left hook. Jab to the body by Gagnon. Left hook by Gagnon and Smith is wobbled and falls to the mat. Gagnon jumps down onto him and has Smith in an armbar but Smith gets out of it and is working for a double leg takedown. Gagnon has a guillotine choke locked in and jumps into his full guard working on the choke. Smith is trying hard to fight out of it but this choke is very tight. Gagnon really wants this fight but Smith gets out of it. Gagnon is now looking for another armbar but Smith gets out of it and is now looking to take the back of Gagnon, who must be exhausted at this point. Smith has the back of Gagnon and is working for a rear-naked choke. He has it very tight. Somehow Gagnon is able to survive the choke and make it to the end of the fight, but this looks like a win for the UFC newcomer Smith.

Round 1

It’s time for a heavyweight bout between Juan Adams and Arjan Singh Bhullar. The referee is Yves Lavigne. Adams with a straight right. Right hook by Adams. Jab by Adams with a straight right behind it. Another stiff jab by Adams. Another jab by Adams and he forces Bhullar against the fence and lands a straight right behind it. Bhullar returns fire with a jab of his own. Bhullar clinches Adams up but Adams breaks free. Bhullar with a jab but Adams eats it and clinches up. Bhullar reverses position and lands a knee from the clinch and they break. Bhullar with a jab. He lands a left hook behind him and Adams pushes him against the fence. They break. Adams lands another jab and they clinch again. Bhullar ends the round pushing Adams against the fence.

Round 2

Round two begins and Adams begins unleashing punches on Bhullar against the fence. Bhullar breaks free and they both go back into the center of the Octagon. Bhullar grabs a single leg and takes Adams to the mat. Bhullar is working from half guard and lands a hard elbow to the face of Adams that pops his mouthguard out. Adams sweeps Bhullar and gets back to the feet. The ref puts his mouthguard back in. Adams immediately pushes Bhullar against the cage. Bhullar reverses positions. They break. Adams pushes Bhullar against the fence and lands a knee from the clinch. Bhullar appears to be exhausted but he’s able to grind on Adams until the end of the fence.

Round 3

Round three starts. Adams immediately begins working the jab and starts pushing Bhullar back. Adams lands a straight right behind the jab. Bhullar clinches Adams up against the cage and they break. Adams pushes forward and lands a knee to the body and clinches Bhullar against the cage. Bhullar reverses position. Adams breaks free. Bhullar lands a right hook but Adams returns with an uppercut. Bhullar is able to get a single leg takedown and is now on top working in half guard. Bhullar lands some punches from the top. He ends the round on top and we head to the judges’ scorecards.

Round 1

Next is a featherweight bout between Kyle Nelson and Matt Sayles. The ref is Todd Anderson. Sayles starts off with a low kick right away. Jab to the body by Sayles. Nelson lands a counter left hook and nearly lands a straight right but Sayles moves away. Sayles with another hard low kick. Jab and straight right by Sayles. Nelson lands an overhand right. Kick to the body by Sayles. Low kick by Sayles. Overhand right by Sayles and Nelson lands one of his own in return. Sayles with a left uppercut. These guys are really slinging leather right now. Nelson with a right hook. Sayles lands a straight right. Nelson lands a body kick but Sayles catches it. Jab to the body and jab to the head by Sayles. Nelson falls to the mat and Sayles takes advantage of it. Sayles jumps on top of him pounding Nelson with punches. Nelson is trying to survive but Sayles is really landing a high volume of ground strikes. Nelson is looking for a kneebar and switches it to a toe hold. Nelson is now looking for a heel hook. He lets go and Sayles takes advantage of it, moving into full mount and then into back mount. He lands some heavy ground and pound and then tries to get the neck of Nelson. He can’t get it but continues to punch Nelson until the end of the round. Huge first round for Sayles.

Round 2

Round two begins. Nelson attempts a double leg takedown but Sayles shrugs him off. Jab to the body and overhand right by Sayles. Nelson lands a double leg takedown of his own and gets Sayles to the mat. He’s now looking for a guillotine choke but Sayles escapes from it. Nelson with a kick to the body. Low kick by Sayles. Jab by Sayles and Nelson returns with one of his own. Nelson shoots for a single leg takedown and gets it. He takes the back of Sayles in a scramble. Nelson has a body triangle locked in on Sayles and is fishing for the rear-naked choke. He has it locked in pretty tight now. Sayles is trying his best to fight Nelson off but the choke is very tight. Sayles manages to survive the choke attempt but Nelson still has his back. Nelson rides the back of Sayles until the end of the second round.

Round 3

The third and final round begins. Nelson with a kick to the body. Straight right by Nelson. He lands an uppercut. Nelson shoots for a double leg takedown but Sayles defends it and now has Nelson against the cage. They break. Nelson with another kick to the body. Sayles lands a spinning back fist. Nelson shoots for a double leg takedown and gets it but Sayles immediately gets back to his feet. Nelson with a kick to the body and an overhand right behind it. Another kick to the body by Nelson. Now he shoots for a double leg takedown but Sayles stuffs it. Sayles finds himself in mount and then immediately moves into arm-triangle choke position. A second later and Nelson taps out. That finish came out of nowhere.

Nordine Taleb vs. Kyle Prepolec

Round 1

Up next are the welterweights as Kyle Prepolec takes on Nordine Taleb. The referee is Jerin Valel. They touch gloves. Taleb with a kick to the body. He goes high with the kick. Hard low kick by Taleb. He goes high with his kick again. Prepolec with a jab to the body. Another low kick by Taleb. Straight right by Taleb. Prepolec with a right hook. He just misses landing a high kick of his own. Taleb lands a high kick. Prepolec just misses landing a spinning back fist and the round is over. Very uneventful round.

Round two begins. Prepolec takes the center of the Octagon. Taleb circles around him and lands a low kick and a straight right behind it. Prepolec returns with a straight left. Taleb lands a kick to the body. There’s an eye poke and the ref calls time but Taleb is okay and the fight starts back up. Prepolec moves forward throwing wild punches and Taleb lands another kick to the body. Prepolec moves forward but isn’t able to land anything. Another kick to the body by Taleb. High kick by Taleb. He lands a low kick. Another high kick by Taleb and it takes us to the end of the round.

It’s time for the third round and Prepolec needs a finish. Once again Prepolec takes the center of the Octagon but Taleb continues to land from the outside. Taleb lands a straight right. Low kick by Taleb. Kick to the body by Taleb. He lands a straight right and then a hard low kick. Prepolec pushes forward and works off his jab. Taleb lands a high kick. Taleb returns with a low kick. Another low kick. High kick by Taleb, and another. He lands a brutal kick to the body. Prepolec with a high kick of his own. Taleb lands a hard low kick. Prepolec looks for a spinning back fist. Taleb lands a brutal low kick that hurts Prepolec. The clock is running down and Prepolec may have survived but Taleb clearly won the fight.

Zahabi lands another body kick then circles away. Morales with a kick to the body of his own. Morales pushes forward and lands a 1-2. Zahabi misses on a spinning back fist. He lands another body kick. Morales lands a kick to the body of his own and the round is over.

Zahabi is having a hard time landing anything. He finally lands a kick to the body. Morales with another uppercut. Morales gets close to Zahabi and Zahabi takes him down with a body lock takedown. Morales is able to scoot to the fence and get back to his feet. Zahabi goes high with a kick but but just misses landing it. Morales continues to chase Zahabi down until the end of the round.

He continues to push forward. Morales lands a heavy uppercut to the jaw of Zahabi. Morales with a 1-2 combination. He lands a jab and follows it with a right hook. Zahabi lands a kick to the body. Morales with a straight right. Morales with a low kick. Morales pushes forward and jabs Zahabi. Morales with a jab and then a right hook behind it. Zahabi ducks under and lands a body lock takedown but Morales immediately gets back to his feet. Morales moves forward and has Zahabi against the fence and lands a right hook. Zahabi continues to circle around and looks for a late single leg takedown but Morales stuffs it. Morales moves forward looking to strike and the fight is over. Very uneventful fight.

Round 1

The final preliminary bout is a women’s bantamweight fight between Macy Chiasson and Sarah Moras. The referee is Yves Lavigne. Moras immediately moves forward, lands a straight right to close the distance, and takes Chiasson down to the mat. Moras is on top of Chiasson in full guard and lands a hard elbow to the fact of her opponent. Chiasson is trying to work a triangle from the bottom but Moras is doing a good job of staying heavy on top. Moras moves into half guard and lands some nasty ground and pound to the face of Chiasson. Moras moves into full mount and then back into half guard. Chiasson is able to explode out and is now on top of Moras. She lands a heavy punch to the face of Moras that turns her around. Chiasson is now on top of Moras in her half guard landing heavy ground and pound. Chiasson with some heavy elbows to the body of Moras and then more punches to her face. Moras takes her arm and is looking for an armbar but there’s not enough time left in the round.

Round 2

Round two begins. Moras is looking for a single leg takedown but Chiasson winds up on top of Moras in her half guard. Chiasson is landing some hard punches and elbows to the body and face of Moras. Chiasson passes into side control. She moves into full mount. Chiasson has Moras turtled up and she is raining down hard punches to the face of Moras. The referee has finally seen enough and stops the fight due to TKO.

Sanchez immediately shoots in for a double leg takedown and completes it. Sanchez has Barriault crunched up against the fence and is staying heavy on him landing punches to his face. Barriault is able to get to his feet but Sanchez continues to push him against the cage. Sanchez clinches Barriault and knees him in the face. They break. Barriault with a big overhand left that just misses. Sanchez lands a low kick. Sanchez shoots for a single leg takedown and gets it but Barriault explodes back to his feet. Barriault is finally starting to land some good strikes but Sanchez clinches up with him. Barriault with a heavy uppercut from the clinch. Right hook by Barriault from close distance. Left hook by Barriault, and an uppercut behind it. Barriault with a big left hook. Sanchez looks tired and Barriault is catching him. Barriault with an overhand right. Barriault with a big left hook. He follows it up with an overhand right and has Sanchez against the fence and starts to tee off with punches. Sanchez is able to survive the flurry and the round is over.

Round three begins and it’s likely tied at one round for each fighter. Sanchez takes the center of the Octagon. He lands a hard uppercut. Barriault with an overhand right. Sanchez with the jab. Jab by Barriault and Sanchez changes levels and looks for a single leg takedown. Barriault is doing a good job of stuffing it. Sanchez continues to clinch Barriault against the cage. Sanchez drags him to the mat with a body lock takedown. Barriault is able to get back to his feet. Sanchez continues to clinch him. He’s looking for a late double leg takedown but Barriault defends it well. With 10 seconds left Barriault drops down for a guillotine choke but there’s no time left and the round and fight are over.

It’s time for a heavyweight bout between Walt Harris and Sergey Spivak. The referee is Jerin Valel. They touch gloves and the fight begins. Spivak with a heavy low kick. Harris returns with a kick to the body. Harris with a straight right. Harris has Spivak backed against the fence and starts unloading on him with punches. Spivak falls to the ground and turtles up. Harris follows him down and keeps punching him until the referee steps in and stops the fight. That was quick.

Round 1

Next up are the bantamweights as Brad Katona takes on Merab Dvalishvili. The referee is Kevin MacDonald. No touch of gloves for this one. Katona takes the center of the Octagon right away. Dvalishvili just misses landing a spinning wheel kick. Low kick by Dvalishvili. Kick to the body by Dvalishvili. Katona lands a low kick. Dvalishvili misses with a spinning back fist. Katona pushes forward and lands a straight right and then a low kick. Another low kick by Katona lands. Katona with an overhand right and Dvalishvili returns with a counter right hook. Dvalishvili lands a kick to the body. Katona returns with a left hook. Dvalishvili with a left hook of his own. Dvalishvili drops down for a single leg takedown and completes it but lets Katona back up. Katona pushes forward and uses a left hook to get inside and clinch up with Dvalishvili against the cage. Dvalishvili reverses him and lands a body lock takedown. Dvalishvili is in the full guard of Katona and stays there until the end of the round, landing some heavy ground and pound just before the horn.

The third and final round begins. Swanson comes out more aggressive and takes the center of the Octagon. He appears to be fighting with a sense of urgency but Burgos is doing a good job of evading his strikes. Burgos lands a low kick. Swanson changes levels and drags Burgos to the mat with a body lock takedown, but Burgos quickly jumps back to his feet. Swanson is holding onto Burgos against the fence and kneeing him in the thigh. Burgos is able to finally break free. Swanson lands a low kick. Burgos just misses landing a hard left hook. He lands a low kick. Swanson with a right hook. Straight right by Burgos.
