Narimani is throwing heavy shots, keeping dos Santos on his back foot, but midway through the round, dos Santos is starting to find success with his counters. Narimani starts bobbing and weaving, trying to get dos Santos to bite on feints. Dos Santos lands an inside leg kick, eats a hard right hand in return. Narimani continues to pressure his opponent backward to the fence, and now the Team Alpha Male representative corners dos Santos to deliver a thumping right hand on the cheek.

Round 2

Narimani opens round two by feeding dos Santos the same left hook-right straight combination that worked so well in the opening round, while also mixing in a few leg kicks. Dos Santos gets backed up to the fence and Narimani commits to his first real takedown attempt of the fight, only to be stuffed and pushed away by the Brazilian. Dos Santos eats a short left hand to crack Narimani with a clean counter, and suddenly it’s the Englishman moving backward. Despite apparently having Narimani in trouble, dos Santos opts to shoot for a takedown at the fence. Narimani defends it easily, then turns the tables by forcing dos Santos to defend a single-leg. Narimani releases the leg and slugs dos Santos with an elbow, then spins him to the mat as the fight goes to the ground for the first time. Narimani works from dos Santos’ half guard with just under two minutes remaining in the round. Narimani looks to be considering an arm-triangle choke, but he’s on the wrong side, so he goes back to elbowing dos Santos in the face. Dos Santos heads back to his corner sporting a cut on his forehead.

Round 3

Dos Santos flashes a front kick up the middle, but Narimani slides off center to dodge it. Narimani hits a quick takedown, but he’s forced to abandon top position as dos Santos snares him in a guillotine on the way to the ground. The featherweights scramble back up, where Narimani uses a clinch to put dos Santos on the fence, then separates with a knee to the body. Narimani is sporting a cut of his own now, though it’s not in a bad spot on the outside corner of his left eye. Half a round remains as Narimani continues to pick at dos Santos from range. Dos Santos tries to press forward and gets his head rattled with a big left hand. Dos Santos is taking everything Narimani has to offer and still throwing shots in return; a particularly clean left hand backs up the “Smiler,” and dos Santos follows up with a Superman punch. Narimani hits another takedown with 70 seconds on the clock; dos Santos puts him in full guard. Narimani rides out the final half minute trying to drop hammerfists and elbows, but dos Santos manages to deflect most of them.

Devin Powell vs. Jesus Pinedo

Round 1

Powell takes the center of the cage and moves forward as the rangy lightweights circle the cage in the opening minute, taking turns bouncing kicks off each other’s guards. Pinedo catches a kick and trips Powell to the ground, then stands over him for 10 or 15 seconds, kicking at his legs a few times before referee Osiris Maia intervenes and orders Powell back to his feet. Two minutes in, Pinedo catches another kick, trips Powell and then lets him off the hook again. When Powell is ordered back to his feet this time, the American goes on the offensive, pressuring Pinedo with combinations and clinch knees. Pinedo has taken a few hard shots but he manages to score with body kicks as he works off his back foot in the latter half of the round. Powell blasts Pinedo with a straight right hand, but when he tries to blitz the Peruvian with more offense, Pinedo trips him to the canvas once again and finishes the round dropping hammerfists.

Round 2

Powell is straight back on the offensive at the start of the second frame, looking to back up Pinedo to the wall with low kicks. Through the first two minutes of the round, however, it’s Pinedo doing the stronger work in the striking department as he lands consistent counters off his back foot. Powell tries to change things up with a brief clinch, but Pinedo soon disengages and then trips Powell to his back. Once again, Pinedo stands over Powell, but this time the Peruvian stays busy enough to keep Powell in the disadvantageous position. Pinedo isn’t overly busy but does land a few hard, diving punches. Inside the 10-second warning, Pinedo passes and tees off with ground-and-pound that seem to have him on the verge of a stoppage, but Powell is saved by the bell.

Round 3

Powell’s right eye is badly swollen at the start of the final frame, but the cageside doctor deems him fit to continue fighting. Powell goes on the offensive immediately, but again it’s Pinedo finding success with his counterstriking. Ninety seconds in, Pinedo is literally dancing around the outside, baiting Powell forward. Pinedo catches another kick; this time, Powell is able to hop away without being taken down. Halfway through the round, Pinedo catches a kick and puts Powell on his back in the center of the cage. Referee Maia allows Pinedo to stand over Powell for the better part of a minute before restarting the fighters on their feet. Pinedo spends the final 60 seconds on his bicycle, picking at the oncoming Powell with low kicks and counter left hands. Powell tries to steal the round with a late takedown, but it looks like too little, too late.

Hector Aldana vs. Laureano Staropoli

Round 1

Staropoli raises a hand to touch gloves and gets a leg kick in return from Aldana, drawing boos from the pro-Staropoli crowd. The welterweights start throwing hands early, leaving Aldana with a cut and Staropoli with a large knot on his right temple. Staropoli whirls around with a spinning backfist, but the shorter Aldana ducks underneath to clinch. Staropoli counters a leg kick with a right hand, then rushes after Aldana with punches. “El Charro” gets the better of the ensuing exchange, as he plants his feet and lowers his head to clang Staropoli with looping counters. However, Aldana comes away from the exchange with what looks like severe damage to his left eye. Referee Fernando Portella calls for the doctor, who quickly clears Aldana to continue. Staropoli blasts Aldana with punches, then a clinch knee as he backs up the Mexican to the wall. Aldana just keeps throwing punches back at him, and now the hematoma on Staropoli’s right temple is looking very bad. There’s one minute left in the round as Staropoli wobbles Aldana with a right hand in the center of the cage. The pace slows down the stretch, with Staropoli still leading the dance as he backs up a bloody Aldana.

Round 2

Aldana is examined by the doctor prior to the start of the round, and again the doctor says the cut over his left eye is not severe enough to stop the fight. However, just seconds after the welterweights resume, Staropoli throws low and lands an accidental groin strike; Aldana takes 30-40 seconds to recover, and the fight resumes. Aldana clips the incoming Staropoli with a right hook, but a straight right from Staropoli about one minute in turns the head of Aldana. The lumped-up Staropoli continues to press the action, keeping Aldana in reverse with long combinations and counters. Aldana throws a lazy low kick and eats a pair of punches over the top before he can pull his leg back. Halfway through the round, Staropoli remains in control, but Aldana is making him pay with counters when the Argentine gets too reckless with his attacks. Aldana’s cut reopens in the latter half of the round, streaming blood down the left side of his face.

Round 3

Referee Portella calls “time” again at the start of the round; Aldana passes the doctor’s test, despite his left eye continuing to swell shut. Staropoli goes back on the offensive with some heavy low kicks and a one-two that immediately opens up Aldana’s cut again. Staropoli switches between stances as he plunges long punches down the center and picks at Aldana’s left leg. Staropoli gets busier toward the middle of the round, with a few hard kicks to Aldana’s midsection followed by a flurry of punches. Aldana tries to catch Staropoli with counters, but the Mexican’s punches are too labored and predictable at this point. Staropoli keeps his hands in Aldana’s face down the stretch, slamming him with one particularly heavy right hook, but the local favorite can’t produce a finish.

Humberto Bandenay vs. Austin Arnett

Round 1

The southpaw Bandenay strikes first with an inside leg kick, then wheels away with his guard up as Arnett charges him with a left hand. Arnett lands a kick to the body but misses with a few hurried punches, and now Bandenay comes forward again. Arnett clips Bandenay with a punch that appears to wobble the Peruvian, but Bandenay makes a quick recovery. Two minutes in, Arnett closes the distance and puts Bandenay on the fence with an underhook. Bandenay spins him away and catches Arnett coming forward, hitting the American with a body kick and threatening to follow up with speedy hands. Arnett dodges the heavier punches of Bandenay and pushes him against the fence, though Bandenay soon reverses and tosses the American to the floor. Arnett climbs back to his feet, now sporting a cut above his right eye, and jams Bandenay against the cage for a few seconds. Arnett isn’t busy enough for referee Keith Peterson, who separates the fighters with under a minute on the clock. A body kick puts Arnett in reverse, but again he’s able to recover quickly. Arnett tries a late takedown, but Bandenay defends with the whizzer and they finish the round clinching on the fence.

Round 2

Arnett looks to initiate the exchanges in round two, walking down Bandenay with push kicks and long punches. The Peruvian still has a smile on his face, but his offense has certainly dropped off so far in round two. Bandenay eats a left hand as he’s forced backward, and now Arnett takes the opportunity to clinch again. Bandenay takes a few knees to the midsection before he’s able to reverse positions; Arnett reverses again, throws a knee, and now referee Keith Peterson jumps in to pause the fight for an accidental low blow. Bandenay takes a few seconds to recover, and the fight resumes with just over three minutes on the clock. Bandenay ducks under a charging punch from Arnett and narrowly misses with a head kick. The sequence repeats again, and this time Bandenay appears to catch Arnett with a kick on the way up. Arnett hustles Bandenay against the fence for another slow-paced clinch. The American backs up and breaks the clinch with a slashing elbow strike. Bandenay is looking tired now, throwing sparse arm punches and leg kicks down the stretch. Arnett hugs him against the fence again, tries to wrestle Bandenay to the ground and gets reversed. Bandenay hits a late takedown but has to fight out of a guillotine attempt as he lands in Arnett’s guard.

Round 3

Arnett bounces a few kicks off the arms of Bandenay in a dull opening minute to the final frame. Bandenay throws the occasional punch or low kick but doesn’t seem to have much left in the tank. Arnett pushes Bandenay to the fence and tries to tee him up for a left hand, while Bandenay looks to counter, but the low-accuracy offense from both men continues through the middle of the round. Arnett ties up Bandenay in the center of the cage, hits an outside trip and lands in side control on the Peruvian’s right. Bandenay pivots to put Arnett in butterfly guard, then full guard, but Arnett is able to posture up and land a few left hands. Ninety seconds remain as Arnett tries to turn up the volume with his ground-and-pound, while Bandenay just tries to wrap up and avoid damage. Arnett stands and dives back to the ground with a right hand. Bandenay covers up but Arnett can’t force a stoppage before the horn.

Round 1

Sasaki comes out low in his southpaw stance, lands a long left but eats a right hand in return from Pantoja, prompting the Japanese flyweight to stick out his tongue. Pantoja shoots for an early takedown, winds up pulling guard and immediately goes hunting for an armbar. Sasaki flips his way out of the first armbar attempt, then shucks off the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt’s triangle setup. Sasaki stacks up Pantoja against the fence and drops long punches on the “Cannibal” from the standing position. Pantoja initiates a scramble, and in a flash, he’s jumped on Sasaki’s back. Pantoja’s right arm whips across Sasaki’s jaw; Pantoja doesn’t have the rear-naked choke at first, but he keeps squeezing and soon gets under Sasaki’s chin. A grimacing Sasaki resists for a few seconds before he’s forced to tap out.

Round 1

Prazeres counters a Fabinski low kick with an overhand left, then walks down the Polish welterweight and decks him with a big right hand. Fabinski powers back to his feet as Prazeres tries to pound him out, first from side control and then full mount. Fabinski wall-walks and bucks the Brazilian out of the dominant position, but as soon as they scramble up, “Tractor” snares Fabinski in a tight, arm-in guillotine and jumps guard. Prazeres rolls into full mount and Fabinski, with no chance of escape, taps out instantly.

Cynthia Calvillo vs. Poliana Botelho

Round 1

Botelho opens with an outside leg kick, keeping a low stance as the grappler Calvillo circles around her in the opening minute. Calvillo catches a kick and hustles Botelho to the ground, but Botelho is back on her feet within a few seconds. Botelho reclaims the center of the cage, pivoting on her right foot to follow Calvillo around the perimeter. Calvillo is having trouble connecting with her reaching punches, though she manages to land a few slapping leg kicks. Botelho’s offense has dropped off a bit as she waits for opportunities to counter Calvillo, but in the meantime, the American is able to snap back Botelho’s head with a jab and follow up with another takedown. Calvillo passes to side control on Botelho’s right and leans across the striker’s body with heavy top pressure. Calvillo seems to be setting up an armbar, but now Botelho reclaims half guard. Calvillo traps one of Botelho’s arms underneath her; when Botelho tries to roll through and escape, she’s helpless to defend as Calvillo snares her in a no-hooks rear naked choke. Botelho is stuck on her knees with no idea how to escape, and she taps the mat in submission just as Calvillo transitions onto her back.

Marlon Vera vs. Guido Cannetti

Round 1

Vera pushes Cannetti backward with a body kick, but the “Ninja” comes back at Vera with a Thai clinch and a knee to the body. Vera turns the tables with a quick takedown; Cannetti throws up an armbar, then jumps back on his feet when Vera lifts him for a slam. After tagging Vera with a combination, it’s Cannetti’s turn to score a takedown, slamming “Chito” to the floor at the base of the fence. Vera slowly works his way back to his feet, and the bantamweights disengage inside the three-minute mark. Vera is forced to cover up again as Cannetti blitzes him with wild punching combinations and body kicks, unconcerned with any of Vera’s attempted counters. Cannetti misses on a punch to the body, allowing Vera to wrap him up and push him to the fence. Vera stomps on Cannetti’s feet, but it’s the Argentine hitting an outside trip to put Vera on his back a second time. Cannetti spends 30 seconds trying to break Vera’s posture and find an opening for some ground-and-pound. Eventually, Cannetti stands up and kicks at the legs of Vera, keeping the Ecuadorian grounded until the end of the round.

Round 2

Vera attacks Cannetti with clinch knees, first to the body and then one to the head that sends “Ninja” to the canvas. As Cannetti stands up and drives on Vera’s legs, the Ecuadorian sizes him up for a guillotine and jumps guard. Cannetti frees himself from the choke, but after escaping to his feet, Vera keeps him trapped on the fence to tee off with more knees and punches. Vera reaps the leg of Cannetti and trips him to the ground, then attaches himself to Cannetti’s back with a body triangle and forces him to tap out with a lightning fast rear-naked choke.

Round 1

Heinisch takes the center of the cage and immediately applies pressure to the southpaw Ferreira, as the Brazilian circles left around the outside. Ferreira waits for Heinisch to throw a kick, then shoots in and drives the American to the canvas in the center of the cage. Heinisch is back on his feet within a few seconds, disengages from Ferreira’s clinch and brings the pressure again. Ferreira keeps “The Hurricane” at bay with low kicks as the action slows a bit toward the middle of the round. “Mutante” catches another kick and runs Heinisch against the fence with two minutes on the clock. Heinisch jumps guard with an arm-in guillotine, but Ferreira seems unconcerned as he stacks up Heinisch at the base of the fence. Heinisch keeps trying to adjust the choke until Ferreira pops his head free with 55 seconds remaining. Heinisch throws up an armbar, so Ferreira kneels on the American’s face to make the position uncomfortable. Heinisch goes belly-down on the sub attempt just as time expires.

Round 2

Ferreira needs only 10 seconds to double-leg Heinisch to the canvas; Heinisch pops back up, only to be taken down again instantly. Ferreira is forced to go on the defensive, grabbing his own trunks as Heinisch tries a kimura from the bottom. The middleweights scramble back to their feet with 3:45 on the clock. Ferreira comes down the middle with a straight left that gets a shake of the head from Heinisch. The fighters appear to clash heads as “Mutante” shoots in to try another takedown, and Ferreira winds up circling away as Heinisch gives chase. Ferreira shoots again, takes down Heinisch and breaks up another short-lived guillotine attempt. Heinisch rolls to his knees and jumps up before Ferreira can capitalize on his front headlock. The Buenos Aires crowd starts to boo for the first time tonight as the action dies down in the last two minutes of the round. Heinisch knocks Ferreira to the floor with a right hand in the final 10 seconds but can’t produce any follow-up offense before the horn.

Round 3

Ferreira hits a single-leg takedown in the opening minute of the round, but he’s unable to keep Heinisch on the mat for more than a few seconds. The 185ers meet back in the center of the cage with 3:30 left to fight, and Ferreira pops the incoming Heinisch with a left hand. “Mutante” clinches again, uses the whizzer to spin Heinisch to the ground, but Heinisch jumps back to his feet and puts Ferreira in danger with a quick combination. Halfway through the round, it’s Heinisch securing a takedown, now landing short left hands as he works from the half guard of a tired Ferreira. After slowly working his way back to his feet, Ferreira absorbs a couple more punches before he’s able to wrap up Heinisch on the wall. The fighters separate with 45 seconds remaining, and Heinisch is marching on Ferreira, looking to do some late damage. Heinisch shoots a double, switches to a single, but Ferreira escapes and goes backpedaling. Heinisch catches up with him at the fence and the middleweights finish the fight throwing slow-motion punches at one another.

Round 1

Rountree struggles to free himself from the clinch, but before he can, Walker tees him up for a short-range elbow to the head. Rountree falls to the canvas, out cold, and Walker tacks on two more punches before referee Fernando Portella can rescue the unconscious American.

Round 1

Elkins lands an inadvertant low blow with one of his first kicks, but Lamas tells ref Keith Peterson that he’s OK and doesn’t need a break. Elkins secures the fight’s first takedown, can’t hold Lamas on the ground, and the featherweights wind up pummeling for position on the fence. Lamas circles back to the center of the cage, stuffs an Elkins takedown attempt and lands another outside leg kick. Less than two minutes in, Elkins is already sporting some damage around his left eye. Elkins initiates another clinch on the fence but gets reversed by Lamas at the halfway point of the round. Lamas tries a double, can’t get anywhere, and now Elkins spins to the outside. The 145ers break apart with two minutes remaining in the opening round. Lamas has a cut underneath his right eye now, as Elkins starts to find a home for his punches and low kicks. Lamas lands a spinning kick to the body but gets tangled up and run to the ground, where Elkins tries to take his back. Lamas stands up, only to be slammed back to the canvas just before the horn.

Round 2

Elkins looks to pressure Lamas at the onset of round two, charging “The Bully” with awkward, odd-angled punches. Instead, it’s Lamas securing the round’s first takedown in the center of the cage. Round 3

Elkins seems to have recovered from his leg-kick scare at the end of round two, as he marches across the cage to try and put punches on Lamas. “The Bully” gets on his bike, backpedaling and looking to counter as Elkins’ advances become increasingly reckless. Elkins hugs Lamas against the fence, gets spun around and then released with 3:30 left to fight. Elkins lands a right hand over the top, nearly gets spun to the ground but manages to keep his footing. Lamas makes him pay with another low kick. Elkins shoves him against the wall, so Lamas breaks out of the clinch with a hard, short elbow strike. With 2:00 on the clock, Lamas ducks under a right hand and double-legs Elkins to the ground in the middle of the cage. Lamas staples Elkins’ head to the canvas with a heavy elbow. Elkins is a bloody mess as he tries to kick Lamas away and create some space. Lamas stands, trying to find the angle to pass Elkins’ guard and land some heavy ground-and-pound. After a couple thumping punches, Elkins rolls over, going belly-down in a last-ditch effort to escape. Lamas traps him on his side and drops a pair of hammerfists before referee Peterson steps in to save the bloodied Elkins from further punishment.

Neil Magny vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio

Round 1

Referee Herb Dean is the third man in the cage for tonight’s welterweight main event, with judges Michael Bell, Guilherme Bravo and Halliston Pontes scoring the bout should it complete the scheduled five rounds. Ponzinibbio takes the center of the cage to start the bout, cutting angles in front of Magny as both men test the range with arms outstretched. Ponzinibbio connects with a right hand as he traps Magny up against the fence. The next combination leaves Magny blinking and pawing at his right eye; replay shows that Ponzinibbio did the damage with a short, popping jab. Two minutes in, Magny doesn’t seem as concerned with the eye, but Ponzinibbio continues to keep him on the outside with constant pressure. Ponzinibbio cracks Magny with the back end of a one-two, follows with a leg kick which Magny tries to check. Magny fires back with a body kick but there doesn’t seem to be much behind it. Ponzinibbio’s jab backs up Magny to the wall again. The American is still fighting almost purely defensively; even when he manages to trip Ponzinibbio to the mat, Magny simply circles away, taking a moment to recover. Ponzinibbio blasts Magny with a pair of right hands with 40 seconds on the clock, but Magny gets on his horse and survives to see the end of the round despite another heavy right from Ponzinibbio in the last 10 seconds. Ponzinibbio hits Magny with a short left hand after the horn; Magny looks to the ref, but it looked to be a genuine mistake in real time.

Round 2

Magny looks to initiate early in round two, sticking his jab in Ponzinibbio’s face. Ponzinibbio answers with an inside leg kick that sends Magny to the ground. Magny invites the Argentine to join him, but Ponzinibbio wants the 6-foot-3 welterweight back on his feet. Another heavy leg kick puts Magny on his back, and again Ponzinibbio tells him to stand. Magny tries to keep Ponzinibbio at bay with long jabs. Referee Dean calls time after the fighters clash heads; Ponzinibbio sustained a deep cut right above his left eye, in a position where blood could leak down into his eye. When action resumes, Ponzinibbio knocks down Magny with another low kick, then stands over the American and chops at his legs, leaving Magny wincing in pain. Magny powers back to his feet but looks unsteady, leaning some of his weight on the fence as Ponzinibbio tries to tee off with punches. Magny shoots a double, gets stuffed to the ground and is told to stand up. Ponzinibbio looks like he doesn’t want to take any chances with his cut, and he’s trying to polish off Magny here in the last minute. “Gente Boa” seems to have Magny in trouble, but he takes his foot off the gas in the final 20 seconds.

Round 3

Ponzinibbio crowds Magny around the outside, not getting off much offense in the opening minute but nonetheless forcing the longtime welterweight ranker to go on the defensive. Magny, who’s still protecting his right eye, nearly hits the ground after being hobbled by another Ponzinibbio low kick. It looks as if Ponzinibbio could finish the fight right here, but instead of throwing more low kicks, the Argentine tries to tee up Magny for a knockout. Magny is too crafty and manages to keep himself safe as he covers up on the fence. Ponzinibbio is playing with his food a bit now, again letting Magny off the hook after a low kick leaves the American hopping on one leg. Magny comes back to the center, now with 80 seconds left in the round. Ponzinibbio tries to attack and gets push-kicked away. Back comes “Gente Boa” to hit Magny with a nice left hook, but a jab from Magny reopens the cut over Ponzinibbio’s left eye, too.

Round 4

Magny hits the deck after another leg-kick knockdown, and Ponzinibbio allows him to stand right away. Magny tries to get hold of Ponzinibbio for a takedown, but Magny simply doesn’t have the legs to finish the shot. Ponzinibbio chops down Magny again, stalks him around the outside with jabs, then knocks him down once more. Referee Dean looks to be on the verge of stopping the fight as Magny takes a few extra seconds to get back on his feet this time. Still, Magny is being saved by Ponzinibbio’s desire to score a clean knockout. Ponzinibbio lands another low kick, but Magny hops on one leg to stay standing this time. Ponzinibbio closes the distance, backing up Magny to the fence, then laying waste to his hobbled opponent with a blistering right hand to the jaw. Magny falls forward, trying to grab hold of Ponzinibbio and instead droping face-first to the canvas. Ponzinibbio lands one last shot as referee Dean steps in to wave off the bout.
