Paulo Henrique Costa vs. Garreth McLellan

Round 1

Brazilian newcomer "Borrachinha" wastes no time in backing up McLellan with punches. McLellan seems stunned after a couple right hands connect, but he's trying to shell up and stay alive with his back to the fence. Costa is relentless, teeing off on his wounded foe with both hands, and a right hook to the temple eventually fells McLellan, sending referee Osiris Maia in for the stoppage.

The Official Result

Paulo Henrique Costa def. Garreth McLellan via TKO (Punches) R1 1:17

Rony Mariano Bezerra vs. Jeremy Kennedy

Round 1

Kennedy takes the center of the cage and tests the range with jabs and a head kick, eventually finding Bezerra with a kick to the body. "Jason" comes out to the middle and Kennedy begins circling the outside, narrowly avoiding some heavy punches from the Brazilian. Bezerra comes sailing at Kennedy with a flying knee and knocks him down to the base of the fence, but the Canadian withstands the follow-up punches. Kennedy stands, thwarts an attempted throw, lands a takedown of his own and bears down on "Jason" from guard, keeping the "TUF" veteran on the floor after an attempt to stand. Kennedy rides out the remainder of the round on top and turns up the volume in the closing moments, lumping up Bezerra with punches and elbows.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Kennedy
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Kennedy
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Kennedy

Round 2

Bezerra charges Kennedy with punches early in the second frame and clips the Canadian with a right hand. Kennedy backpedals, but "Jason" lunges at him with a double flying knee and again puts Kennedy on the canvas. Bezerra tries to finish with punches but can't get the stoppage, and now he kneels down in Kennedy's open, shifting guard. Kennedy prevents a guard pass and looks to hook Bezerra's arm, but the action stalls out as the featherweights fight over to the base of the fence. Referee Camila Albuquerque orders the fighters back to their feet with just under one minute on the clock. Soon after, Kennedy throws an inside thigh kick which strays high and lands square on Bezerra's cup. Bezerra takes a minute to recover and comes back to fight, and the final 15 seconds tick down without incident.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Bezerra
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Bezerra
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Bezerra

Round 3

Bezerra tries to clown Kennedy early in the final frame, as the Brazilian places his hands behind his back and leans forward with his chin out. Kennedy doesn't take the bait but does explode into another takedown, planting Bezerra at the foot of the fence. Bezerra gets the whizzer and climbs back to his feet, then separates from Kennedy with 3:25 on the clock. Bezerra looks exhausted as Kennedy barrels toward him with another successful double-leg, this time in the center of the cage. Kennedy gets in a few good punches as he kneels in Bezerra's guard; "Jason," meanwhile, is scoring with some elbows to the top of Kennedy's head. Bezerra tries an omoplata but can't get the sweep or tap, and now Kennedy lands under-the-arm punches on his kneeling opponent. Bezerra stands momentarily, only to be ragdolled back to the floor by Kennedy in the final seconds.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Kennedy (29-28 Kennedy)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Kennedy (29-28 Kennedy)
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Kennedy (29-28 Kennedy)

The Official Result

Jeremy Kennedy def. Rony "Jason" Bezerra via Unanimous Decision (29-27, 29-28, 29-28) R3 5:00

Joshua Burkman vs. Michel Prazeres

Round 1

Prazeres stings Burkman with an early combination and then goes wild on the wobbly American, pounding away with huge left hands at the fence. Burkman gets hold of a single-leg and looks for a desperation takedown while Prazeres continues to smash his head. The finish doesn't materialize despite heavy pressure from Prazeres, and now the Brazilian flattens out Burkman to settle in top position. Prazeres passes to side control, then north-south position, where he loops his left arm around Burkman's head and bears down. Burkman resists for a moment, raises his hand and eventually taps to the north-south choke.

The Official Result

Michel Prazeres def. Joshua Burkman via Submission (North-South Choke) R1 1:42

Joe Soto vs. Rani Yahya

Round 1

Both bantamweights are throwing hands in the opening minute, with Soto pressing Yahya backward to the fence. Yahya comes forward and throws a kick, countered by Soto with a hook from Soto that knocks Yahya to the floor. Yahya stands up and shakes his head as Soto puts his arm in the air with a bit of premature celebration. Yahya circles the outside, landing a few kicks to the body and legs as Soto tries to close the gap. Yahya comes back to the middle, has a front kick caught and gets knocked to the ground by another Soto punch, but again the Brazilian is quickly back on his feet. Yahya shoots a single near the fence and takes down Soto with just under one minute remaining. Soto tries a guillotine but has to release the choke as Yahya threatens to pass guard. Soto contains the BJJ black belt in butterfly guard, but Yahya passes to half guard with 20 seconds left. Soto wraps up from underneath and rides out the final few seconds.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Yahya
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Yahya
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Soto

Round 2

Yahya comes forward throws punches with his head down, and the bantamweights clash heads violently. Yahya drops to his knees, stuned, and Soto -- who immediately begins spraying blood from his forehead -- attempts a quick guillotine choke. Referee Camila Albuquerque pauses the action so the cageside doctor can check on Soto's cut, and the American is cleared to continue. Soto is a bloody mess as the fight continues, the entire left side of his face covered in plasma. Yahya shoots a long shot, gets sprawled on and has to sit out of a guillotine attempt. Soto is pressing forward on the feet, keeping Yahya on his back foot as they circle the perimeter. Yahya tries another takedown but gets shut down again by Soto, who wants the Brazilian back on his feet. Yahya looks exhausted as he shoots again and is stuffed to the floor; Soto tries an armbar, can't get it and instead tries to pound him out from top position. The round expires with Soto hunting for an arm-triangle choke setup from side control.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Soto
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Soto
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Soto

Round 3

Soto stuffs Yahya's first takedown attempt of the round and stuffs the Brazilian to the floor in the center of the cage. Yahya looks spent as he rolls to his knees and attempts to crawl away, Soto peppering his face with punches from behind. Yahya rolls his back onto the mat and Soto goes knee-on-belly to land sharp elbows to the face. Soto is still leaking blood all over the canvas but it's Yahya in trouble here, unable to escape as Soto puts his weight on his exhausted opponent. Two minutes left and Soto is still hammering away, now looking to mount. Soto peels off to try an armbar, but Yahya escapes and sweeps to top position. The bantamweights come back to their feet where Yahya lands a snappy front kick to the face. Soto seems unfazed as he shoots one last take down and puts Yahya on his back to finish the fight.

Sergio Moraes vs. Davi Ramos

Round 1

The taller Moraes tries to use his length early, throwing long punches and a quick front kick up the center. It's a bit of a stalemate early on between the welterweight jiu-jitsu specialists, as both men look to connect on the feet. Ramos finds the face of Moraes with a few counters, now catches the "Panther" leaning in and hits him with a right hook. Ramos is the busier man on the feet down the stretch, not connecting at a high clip but throwing far more than Moraes, who looks to be freezing up a bit even as he presses forward.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Moraes
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Ramos
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Moraes

Round 2

Ramos goes on the attack early in round two, walking forward on Moraes to land his best right hand of the fight so far. Moraes scores with a body kick, then gets folded momentarily by Ramos with a hard jab to the breadbasket. Ramos comes forward to land a standing elbow, countered by Moraes with a left hook. Moraes goes to the body of Ramos with a front kick, and the UFC newcomer answers with another hard jab to the gut. Moraes is finding the range with his left hand down the stretch, turning the tables to catch Ramos with jabs and counters.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Ramos
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Moraes
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Moraes

Round 3

Moraes snaps off jabs in the face of Ramos, now goes to the body as Ramos backs up to the center of the cage. Ramos is having some trouble finding Moraes with his punches at this late stage, as Moraes stays out of punching range for the 5-foot-6 welterweight. Moraes plunges a straight right down the middle, follows with a left hook but eats a short counter from Ramos in the process. Ramos steps forward, pops Moraes with a jab and now tries his first takedown of the fight, but Moraes does well to keep his balance. Ramos comes on strong in the final moments, aggressively punching and kicking at Moraes, but it could be too little, too late.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Moraes (29-28 Moraes)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Moraes (29-28 Moraes)
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Moraes (30-27 Moraes)

Kevin Lee vs. Francisco Trinaldo

Round 1

Trinaldo closes the distance and clinches Lee against the fence in the opening minute, but Lee frees himself and shoots for a takedown of his own, plowing "Massaranduba" to the ground near the center of the cage. Trinaldo throws up an armbar, can't catch Lee, who holds the Brazilian in a cradle and tries to keep him on the floor. Trinaldo powers back to his feet, working his way back up against the fence. After creating some space, Trinaldo smacks Lee with a thumping left hand that appears to hurt the "Motown Phenom." Lee grabs hold of a single-leg and looks to slow the pace with another takedown, but Trinaldo does well to defend the shot. Lee's next takedown try comes from a mile out, and Trinaldo makes him pay with a knee and an elbow. Lee looks hurt already, and a follow-up body shot from the Brazilian doesn't help matters. Trinaldo sprawls on another shot from Lee, who stands up and backpedals with 30 seconds on the clock.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Trinaldo
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Trinaldo
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Trinaldo

Round 2

Trinaldo continues to neutralize the wrestling of Lee early in the second frame, but Lee is beginning to find some success with his right hand. Trinaldo lands a combination of his own before shutting down another takedown try. Lee wheels up with a head kick which stuns Trinaldo, and now the American stifles Trinaldo's desperation takedown attempt. Lee steps over to full mount, now takes the back as Trinaldo flips over. Lee secures the position with a body triangle and applies a rear-naked choke; Trinaldo resists for a moment but ultimately taps out.

The Official Result

Kevin Lee def. Francisco Trinaldo via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R2 3:12

Tim Means vs. Alex Oliveira

Round 1

Means takes the center of the cage and blocks a few early body kicks from Oliveira, who follows with a right hand down the center and connects. Means tries to pressure the Brazilian, gets wrapped up and pressed against the fence, and now Oliveira scores his first takedown less than one minute into the bout. Means looks to pivot underneath for an armbar, but it's quickly shut down by Oliveira, who works to pass Means' butterfly guard with the help of a can opener. Means kicks him away but "Cowboy" stays on top, and the welterweights continue to grapple at the foot of the fence. Means works back to his feet, defends a double-leg from Oliveira and uses double underhooks to reverse to the outside. Oliveira retakes the outside, now spins to Means' back and dumps the American to the mat with a suplex. Back up comes Means, Oliveira still wrapped around his waist, and the Brazilian dumps him to the floor again. The sequence repeats again, then again, but Means reverses on the fourth slam and lands in side control with 90 seconds remaining. Means grinds on Oliveira's face with a few short elbows but can't mount any significant offense before the round ends.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Oliveira
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Oliveira
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Oliveira

Round 2

Means ducks under a spinning kick from Oliveira and tries a takedown; "Cowboy" tries to counter with a guillotine choke but quickly loses the headlock. Now it's Oliveira dropping to his knees for a double-leg attempt, but Means reverses to take the outside position as they fight on the fence. Oliveira drops again and now completes the double just about one minute into the round. Means shifts underneath, trying to walk off the fence and now rolling to his knees. Means is back on his feet, trying to peel away Oliveira's hands to release the rear waistlock. Oliveira sits down and pulls Means to the ground with him. Means begins to roll to his stomach, and Oliveira applies a lightning fast rear-naked choke which has the American tapping in seconds.

The Official Result

Alex Oliveira def. Tim Means via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R2 2:38

Bethe Correia vs. Marion Reneau

Round 1

Correia catches an early kick from Reneau but releases without attempting a takedown. The bantamweights probe with jabs before a brief clinch on the fence which does not yield an advantage for either woman. Correia comes back to clinch again, traps Reneau on the wall with an underhook and lands a few foot stomps. Reneau gets some separation, so Correia switches to low kicks and right hands as the American tries to step inside. Correia tags the incoming Reneau with a counter left hook, but Reneau pops her back with a one-two. Correia hits a trip takedown in the final 20 seconds and finishes the round in Reneau's guard.

Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Correia

Correia tacks on a leg kick as she steps inside to clinch, then hits Reneau with a right hand on the break. Correia scores with a body-head combo, whiffs on a spinning backfist and eats a right hand from Reneau as they enter the final two minutes of the round. Reneau denies an attempt to clinch and slugs Correia with a right hand as they separate. Correia comes back and changes levels for a single-leg takedown with 90 seconds on the clock. Reneau is busy off her back, hitting Correia with punches and elbows, now throwing up a triangle, but Correia stands up and frees herself from the choke.

Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Correia
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Correia

Round 3

Reneau lands a right high kick that staggers Correia, but the American falls to the ground simultaneously, giving Correia a few seconds to recover. As Reneau stands up, Correia grabs hold of a single-leg and tries for a desperation takedown in the center of the cage. Reneau denies the shot, slamming Correia with punches as the Brazilian clings to her leg. Eighty seconds in, Reneau flattens out Correia and steps over to full mount to land elbow. Correia somehow rolls out but soon finds herself mounted again, absorbing even heavier elbows. Correia gives up her back and Reneau establishes both hooks, trapping Correia's left arm in the process. Correia rolls to her knees and reclaims her arm, but now Reneau secures the position with a body triangle as she continues to punch away from the rear. Correia continues to fight away Reneau's hands to prevent the rear-naked choke, but it's Reneau finishing the fight in the dominant position.

Borg takes an accidental kick to the groin but needs only a short rest to recover, and now the fight is back on. "Formiga" is starting to find his hands in the middle of the round, hitting Borg with a short left hand in close quarters and then scoring with counters as the American tries to step inside. Borg tags da Silva back with a right hand, only to be clipped by "Formiga" with a counter right of his own. Borg steps inside with a kick to the body but absorbs a three- or four-punch combination in return. Borg shuts down a double-leg attempt from da Silva, who steps away, resets and clocks Borg with a spinning backfist before the horn.

"Formiga" scores with a hard low kick, gets a flying knee to the chest from Borg, who grabs a rear waistlock and tries to slam da Silva to the floor. Great balance keeps da Silva on his feet, allowing him to walk over to the fence and stay standing as Borg continues to dig for a single-leg. They remain on the wall through the middle of the round, and now referee Mario Yamasaki separates the fighters with two minutes on the clock. Borg cracks da Silva with a hard overhand left, but the Brazilian doesn't budge. Borg nearly gets knocked down as he steps backward and da Silva lands a chop to his left knee. Borg sticks out his tongue and comes whirling at da Silva with punches just before time expires.

The flyweights scramble back to their feet, where Borg changes levels to try a takedown against the fence. "Formiga" reverses and takes Borg down instead, then attaches himself to the American's back. Borg fends off the first rear-naked choke attempt with two-on-one control, but da Silva is tenacious and continues to work his arms around Borg's neck. Borg tries to walk off the fence, can't get anywhere, but now he flips over and lands on top in da Silva's closed guard. Borg opens a cut on da Silva's forehead with some heavy elbows from top position. Da Silva rolls over, giving up his back, but Borg fails to establish hooks. Da Silva flips over again, and Borg finishes the fight hunting for a choke setup which does not materialize.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Borg (29-28 Borg)

Edson Barboza vs. Beneil Dariush

Round 1

The lightweights come out throwing hands, and Barboza appears to get the better of the first punching exchange with a sharp right hook to Dariush's jaw. Dariush answers with a kick, takes a jab to the midsection and then a low kick from Barboza, who circles right around the edge of the cage as Dariush gives chase. Dariush misses with a left high kick but puts a left hook on the side of Barboza's head. Barboza sticks a jab before he returns to his circling on the outside. Dariush steps inside to clinch but can't get anything going in the Thai plum. Midway through the round, both men continue to swing for the fences with every punch. Dariush lands an uppercut as he closes the gap and tries to push Barboza against the wall. Barboza shoves him away, takes a kick to the lead leg, now gets slammed with a body kick. Barboza returns fire with a nasty body kick of his own, and now the Brazilian shuts down a double-leg attempt from the American. Barboza comes back to the middle, eats a jab but manages to shut down a Dariush single-leg attempt. Dariush goes to the body with a left hand, then downstairs with a low kick; Barboza gives him a chop to the leg in return. With two minutes left in the round, a leaning Barboza hits Dariush with an uppercut to the groin, and referee Osiris Maia calls time. Dariush recovers quickly and comes back to ding Barboza with a knee. Barboza backs up, waits for Dariush to shoot for a takedown and then lays waste to the American with a perfectly timed leaping knee. Dariush drops to his back, out cold, and referee Maia rushes in to shove Barboza off the unconscious fighter.

A few seconds later, Rua seems to have shaken the cobwebs, and now he steps out to the center. Both 205ers land left hands, then Rua connects with a punch behind the ear which puts Villante on his knees. Villante springs back up and regains his footing as Rua stalks him from the center of the cage. One minute left in an opening round which has seen both men absorb some hard shots. Vitor Belfort vs. Kelvin Gastelum

Round 1

Referee John McCarthy is the third man in the cage for tonight's middleweight main event. Gastelum takes the center of the cage and presses outward on Belfort, who circles left around the edge of the cage. Belfort narrowly misses Gastelum's chin as the Brazilian fires off his first big combination. Gastelum connects with a left straight-right cross which reddens Belfort's nose. Now flashing his jab, Gastelum looks to close the gap on Belfort. Belfort tries to clinch, but Gastelum separates and scores a flash knockout of Belfort with a beautiful combination. Belfort somehow regains his wits enough to tie up Gastelum, and now the middleweights grapple at the base of the fence with two minutes on the clock. Belfort powers back to his feet as the Brazilian crowd roars, but it's still Gastelum on the offensive, slugging Belfort with a straight left. Belfort turns his head to dodge a Gastelum combination, but the American lands a perfectly placed left straight that floors Belfort once again.
