UFC 209 Salaries: Overeem, Hunt Top Payroll at $750,000, While Woodley Nets $500,000

At UFC 209, Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight king Tyron Woodley retained his title for a second time over Stephen Thompson, but he wasn't the card's highest earner.

After their close and contentious majority draw at UFC 205 last November, Woodley earned the close nod this time, taking a majority decision over “Wonderboy.” Monday, the Nevada Athletic Commission released the UFC 209 payouts, revealing that the “The Chosen One” netted $500,000, including a $100,000 win bonus for the victory. Thompson earned $380,000 and his win bonus would have been $180,000.

Despite his main event status, Woodley was the third highest earner on the card. In the evening's pay-per-view opener, former K-1 World Grand Prix champions Alistair Overeem and Mark Hunt each took home $750,000 flat for their bout. Overeem knocked Hunt out in the third round with a pair of brutal knees.

UFC 209's co-main event bout, an interim lightweight title bout between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov, was canceled due to Nurmagomedov's difficult weight cut on Friday. Nurmagomedov was scheduled to make $500,000 flat with no win bonus, while Ferguson was to make $250,000 to show and $250,000 to win.

Note: The disclosed purses reported by state athletic commissions do not include any performance-based or discretionary bonuses that may be awarded to a fighter by the promotion. Additionally, the reported figures do not reflect any deductions made by the commission for taxes, insurance, etc., and do not include any sponsorship money that a fighter may acquire for their performance.
