Takanori Gomi vs. Jim Miller

Round 1

The southpaws parry punches to start, and it’s Miller who lands cleanly with a plunging left down the middle. Gomi drops to his knees, tries to turn and scramble back to his feet, but before he’s able, Miller jumps on his back. Miller takes a moment to secure back-mount with a body triangle and then begins fishing for a rear-naked choke with 3:30 left in the opening round. Gomi uses two-on-one hand defense to fight off the choke attempt, so Miller gives it up and begins bombing with punches. He flattens out the belly-down Gomi and keeps blasting away with both hands; Gomi is just covering up, not fighting back, so referee Mark Smith steps in to stop the fight.

The Official Result

Jim Miller def. Takanori Gomi via TKO (Punches) R1 2:18

Thiago Santos vs. Gegard Mousasi

Round 1

Mousasi takes the center of the cage and presses out toward Santos, who feints and twitches reactively when the Dutchman tries to step inside. The middleweights trade low kicks and Mousasi lands a few jabs in a cautious opening 90 seconds to the match. Two minutes in, Mousasi finds his opening with a right hook that catches “Marreta” backing up to the fence. Mousasi follows up with three hard left hands and tries to jump on Santos’ back, but the Brazilian manages to climb back to his feet under fire. Mousasi keeps him on the fence, then rides him back to the floor and tries again to take the back. Santos fends off the advance with the help of the cage, posts and stands again. This time, Mousasi wraps him up and spins him to the ground away from the wall, then works on passing guard while scoring with short left hands. Mousasi gets pushed back to Santos’ guard in the final minute, so he opts to stand. Santos tries to take the opportunity to get off the mat, only to be decked by a huge right uppercut from a lunging Mousasi. Santos drops to the canvas on his back, and Mousasi tacks on a couple extra punches as referee Marc Goddard rushes in for the stoppage.

The Official Result

Gegard Mousasi def. Thiago Santos via TKO (Punches) R1 4:32

Joe Lauzon vs. Diego Sanchez

Round 1

Sanchez crouches low in his southpaw stance and reaches out to touch Lauzon with a pair of early left hands. Lauzon steps forward, backing Sanchez up to the fence, where he clips the Jackson-Wink MMA fighter with a big left hand. Sanchez’s legs go rubbery and he hits the deck as Lauzon adds on more punishment. Sanchez struggles up, eats another barrage of punches and drops down again. Sanchez somehow stays awake as he’s slammed with more shots, powering back up to circle the edge of the cage. Lauzon is absolutely relentless here, mauling the near-unconscious Sanchez with power shots from both hands. Sanchez absorbs another six or seven punches and sprints away to his left; Lauzon chases him down and snaps back Sanchez’s head with one final right straight, and finally referee Mark Smith ends the beating.

The Official Result

Joe Lauzon def. Diego Sanchez via TKO (Punches) R1 1:26

Sage Northcutt vs. Enrique Marin

Round 1

The lightweights land simultaneous jabs to start the fight, though it looks like Northcutt sticks his a bit harder. Marin absorbs a left high kick to the face and tries to grab hold of the foot, but Northcutt hops backward and continues bouncing on his toes. Marin steps in to close the distance and pushes Northcutt to the fence, where “Wasabi” wraps up the young prospect and works for a trip takedown. Northcutt keeps his footing, popping Marin with open-palm strikes while fighting off the trip. Two minutes in, Marin completes the takedown, but he’s soon swept underneath. Northcutt moves quickly from side control to back-mount as Marin rolls over. He flattens out the Spanish fighter and socks him in the sides of the head, but now Marin rolls over, leaving Northcutt in full mount. Marin shrimps out and clings to one of Northcutt’s legs, then slowly works his way back up. Northcutt dives for a double-leg, but Marin sprawls and spins to take the back of the American. Northcutt stays standing and leans forward, dumping Marin over the top and back to the ground. Marin turtles up, waits for an opening and tries to stand, but Northcutt has him measured for an uppercut. The punch keeps Marin on his knees for the final 30 seconds of the bout, though he manages to sweep just before the horn.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Northcutt
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Northcutt
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Northcutt

Round 2

Northcutt stays on his back foot through the first minute of the round, circling the perimeter and catching Marin with a few clipping punches and low kicks. Marin keeps coming forward until he’s forced to fight off a Northcutt double-leg attempt. The lightweights fall to the ground in the whizzer, and Marin is able to come out on top in the scramble. He passes to side control on Northcutt’s right, but “Super Sage” throws up his legs, trying to reclaim guard to catch a submission. Marin passes to north-south position and straddles Northcutt’s head to try a kimura, which changes to an armbar as Northcutt bucks and rolls. Northcutt clasps his hands, but Marin pries the left arm free and wrenches it back. Northcutt’s flexibility saves him, as he’s able to resist tapping until Marin’s grip on the submission relaxes. Northcutt rolls to his left and forces Marin onto his back, and now it’s Northcutt on top with just under two minutes left in the frame. Marin tries to catch another armbar from the bottom, winds up in a scramble and drives Northcutt back to the mat. Marin is back in side control with one minute left, now back to north-south, where he retries the kimura. The sequence repeats as Marin switches to an armbar and then winds up on the bottom, and Northcutt gets in a few solid elbows before the end of the round.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Marin
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Marin
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Marin

Round 3

Marin comes straight in to clinch Northcutt against the wall, then drops and plants the American at the base of the fence with a double-leg takedown. Northcutt underhooks his opponent’s arms to prevent ground-and-pound, but it takes him the better part of a minute to climb back up to his feet. Once he does, Marin keeps Northcutt pressed against the wall, changing levels for another takedown try at the midway point of the round. Northcutt defends and cracks Marin with some sharp elbow strikes before being dragged to the floor. Marin is bloody and may be dazed from the elbows, and he’s not able to maintain top position once he gets Northcutt down. Northcutt powers back up and continues to land elbows, while Marin just clings to his legs. Marin lifts and slams Northcutt with 70 seconds remaining, depositing him up against the wall. Northcutt stands and nearly has his back taken in the process, but he flips forward to shake Marin as they tumble to the ground. Northcutt stands up and drops punches through Marin’s guard as the final 20 seconds tick away.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Northcutt (29-28 Northcutt)

T.J. Dillashaw vs. Raphael Assuncao

Round 1

Dillashaw dances around Assuncao, who sticks to the center of the cage and fires off a few big overhand rights in the opening minute. Assuncao lands a leg kick, catches Dillashaw’s return kick and socks him with a right hand. A left hook counter scores for Assuncao as he backs out of the way of a Dillashaw combo. Dillashaw charges inside swinging for the fences but only gets clipped with a right hook for his trouble. A hard low kick connects for Dillashaw as he catches a punching Assuncao on his planted leg. After a couple more hard leg kicks, Assuncao begins flipping between orthodox and southpaw stances. He catches a kick and tries to run Dillashaw against the fence, but the Brazilian’s punches come up empty. Following a short clinch on the cage, Dillashaw continues to walk down Assuncao, reddening the Brazilian’s nose with a couple sharp punches down the stretch.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Dillashaw
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Dillashaw
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Dillashaw

Round 2

Dillashaw pushes forward on Assuncao and dives for a takedown, but Assuncao scrambles well and escapes to his feet. Assuncao walks into a straight right from Dillashaw and acknowledges the strike with a thumbs-up. Another right hand turns the Brazilian’s head as Dillashaw continues to take charge of the fight here in the second. Assuncao is throwing single punches, and they’re mostly coming up short when he does. Dillashaw’s strikes come in twos and threes, punctuated by low kicks which Assuncao seems increasingly eager to avoid. Dillashaw keeps hunting for a head kick, but Assuncao is able to get his glove up to block each time. Assuncao times a Dillashaw charge perfectly, changes levels and plows the Team Alpha Male fighter to the floor, but Dillashaw springs right back up. Assuncao gets a finger to the left eye in an exchange, and referee Mark Smith pauses the fight to call for the doctor. Assuncao is cleared to continue, but as soon as the fight resumes, he’s sent crashing to the ground by a lovely Dillashaw right straight. Assuncao regains his wits quickly and scrambles up to finish the round on his feet.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Dillashaw
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Dillashaw
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Dillashaw

Round 3

Assuncao comes out with an aggressive start to the round, but his forward motion isn’t translating into landed strikes. Dillashaw is evasive of his back foot, and when he stops to throw, he’s catching Assuncao with two-piece combos and chopping low kicks. The ex-champ drives Assuncao against the wall with a double-leg attempt, but Assuncao keeps his footing and circles back to the center. Dillashaw is dropping his hands, standing right in front of Assuncao, trying to bait him into an exchange, but the Brazilian remains measured even with half the final round in the books. Dillashaw continues to pile on leg kicks and jabs as he circles around Assuncao down the stretch. A single-leg attempt from Assuncao comes up empty, though he manages to clip Dillashaw with a couple right hooks as they hit the final minute. Dillashaw explodes into a takedown and plows Assuncao to the canvas, but Assuncao is back on his feet for a listless last 20 seconds.

Sherdog Scores

Kelvin Gastelum vs. Johny Hendricks

Round 1

The southpaw Gastelum comes out firing jabs at Hendricks’ body and head, forcing the former champion backward in the first 30 seconds. Gastelum works in a few leg kicks but has to back up when Hendricks comes over the top with a grazing left hand of his own. Hendricks ducks inside and sticks a couple short, hard punches on the “TUF” winner’s face. Gastelum slows the attack with more jabs, leg kicks and a hard one-two. A left hand, an uppercut and another cracking left put Hendricks on unsteady legs, but he quickly regains his footing and pins Gastelum to the wall with an underhook. Gastelum breaks loose but gets clipped by a left on the way out. He flashes his jab in Hendricks’ face again as they trade inside the last minute of the round. Gastelum’s punching volume is overwhelming Hendricks down the stretch, though “Bigg Rigg” reclaims some ground with the occasional left.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Gastelum
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Gastelum
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Gastelum

Round 2

Hendricks comes over the top with a left hand and follows with a leg kick, but he’s soon on his back foot again with Gastelum bouncing forward to press the action. Jabs and leg kicks continue to score for Gastelum, but now Hendricks catches one of his kicks and tries to run him down. Gastelum turns and dashes away, yanking his leg free in the process; Hendricks catches up with him at the fence and drags him to the floor. Gastelum posts and stands, preventing Hendricks from taking his back in the process. Hendricks absorbs a few more jabs before opting to clinch again, but this is short-lived as well. Hendricks is getting a bit reckless at the halfway mark, swinging and missing with big power punches as charges toward his opponent. Gastelum stays measured and continues to throw combinations, but he finds himself in danger as Hendricks catches him with a left near the fence. Gastelum calmly works his way out of another clinch and comes out to meet Hendricks in the middle of the cage. Hendricks stuffs a takedown attempt and starts swinging for the fences again, but Gastelum stays clear of the big shots and ends the round with a hard low kick.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Gastelum
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Gastelum
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Gastelum

Round 3

Hendricks swings and misses with three big punches at the start of the round, then gets zapped with a pair of shots from Gastelum. Hendricks bobs and weaves to avoid Gastelum’s follow-up combination, but now it’s “Bigg Rigg” in reverse, being moved around the edge of the fence as the welterweights continue to trade strikes. Hendricks nearly has a leg kicked out, tries to clinch with Gastelum but gets shoved away. Leg kicks keep scoring for Gastelum, who denies a clinch and slugs Hendricks with a long left over the top. Hendricks is taking some heavy punches but seems unfazed as he continues to backpedal and look for a big counterpunch. With 90 seconds on the clock, Hendricks shoots for a takedown and winds up holding Gastelum on the fence. Hendricks’ second effort brings down Gastelum, who jumps back to his feet within seconds. Gastelum pries Hendricks off his legs but gets chased down for another takedown attempt on the other side of the cage. Gastelum shuts down this one, too, and now it’s his turn to clinch Hendricks against the fence. Hendricks reverses and trips Gastelum to the mat, but the welterweights both spring up to finish the fight throwing hands.

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Gastelum (30-27 Gastelum)

Julianna Pena vs. Cat Zingano

Round 1

Zingano flails punches as she charges Pena backward to the wall, then wraps her up and drags her to the floor. Pena sits up and stands, mindful of a Zingano choke setup along the way. The bantamweights are back on their feet only a few seconds before Zingano hurls Pena back to the mat, but again Pena is able to regain her footing. Now it’s Pena’s turn for a takedown, and the “Venezuelan Vixen” puts heavy top pressure on Zingano while trying to pass half guard. Zingano rolls to her knees, still trapped by Pena with a front headlock, but the hold comes loose as Zingano drives forward to reclaim top position. Pena scores with open-handed strikes from her back while Zingano jams her up against the fence. Zingano is struggling to do anything with top position as they fight on the ground with 90 seconds left in the frame. Pena keeps the palm strikes coming, uses butterfly hooks to push Zingano away but can’t escape from underneath. Pena finally rolls free and stands to close out the last 20 seconds on her feet.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Zingano
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-10
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Zingano

Round 2

Zingano scores another early takedown and spends much of the first minute grinding down Pena with short strikes and forearms at the base of the fence. “Alpha Cat” backs up and allows Pena to stand, but as soon as Pena steps forward, Zingano grabs hold and hurls her to the floor in the middle of the cage. Pena sweeps but now finds herself in danger of a reverse triangle choke. She breaks Zingano’s hold and sets up in side control; Zingano tries an arm-triangle choke from the bottom but doesn’t have the position to finish. Zingano rolls to her knees and Pena makes sure she stays there, putting her weight on the jiu-jitsu specialist and then attempting to climb on her back. Zingano shakes Pena’s hooks, so Pena switches to a body triangle and pulls Zingano backward to work for a rear-naked choke. Zingano fights it off, so Pena socks her in the face with some right hands from behind. Inside the final minute of the round, Pena continues to dig for the RNC, even attempting a face crank. Zingano takes a look up at the clock, sees only 15 seconds remaining and locks down Pena’s arms until the horn.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Pena
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Pena
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Pena

Round 3

Zingano comes inside to clinch, but it’s Pena who uses a bodylock trip to bring the fight to the ground in the center of the cage. Pena stands over her prone opponent and tries to come down in side control, but Zingano restricts her to half guard. The position doesn’t prevent Pena from roughing up Zingano with short, grinding strikes. Two minutes in, Pena stands and adjusts her position, coming back to the ground in north-south position. Zingano gets to her knees, but Pena rolls her onto her side and tries to establish hooks. Pena gets both hooks in with 90 seconds remaining and squeezes tight on a neck crank, but Zingano just manages to free her head. Inside the last minute now, Zingano sits up and tries to peel Pena off her back, but Pena is heavy and unrelenting, clobbering the Coloradoan with punches from behind. Zingano finally whips around and reverses, driving Pena onto her back just before the final horn sounds.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-8 Pena (29-27 Pena)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Pena (30-27 Pena)
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Pena (29-28 Pena)

Travis Browne vs. Cain Velasquez

Round 1

There’s no touch of gloves as the big men meet in the center, Velasquez stepping forward on Browne early in the proceedings. The ex-champ slugs down the center with a right hand, has a left high kick blocked and then shoots for a takedown around the 60-second mark. Browne backs up to the fence and takes a no-look left hand on the chin before Velasquez breaks away from the clinch. Velasquez fakes another shot to get the 6-foot-7 Hawaiian moving backward again, then chases him against the fence to land another straight right. Velasquez whips around with a heel kick; it touches Browne’s face but doesn’t seem to rock him, though Velasquez’s left hand behind it does the trick. Browne tries to circle away, but Velasquez catches up to “Hapa” and floors him with a looping right hand behind the ear. Velasquez follows his wounded foe to the floor and begins feeding Browne a steady stream of right hands, followed by a hard elbow strike. Browne fends off a no-hooks rear-naked choke and tries to stand, but Velasquez keeps him on his knees and keeps the punches coming. Velasquez wraps up a rear waistlock, only to have Browne stand up with one minute left in the round. Velasquez backs up a few steps, then comes back and wobbles Browne with a left hook. Uppercuts and clinch knees score for Velasquez as he tries to polish off Browne before time runs out. Browne eats a few more punches and hits the deck again; Velasquez follows him to the floor and bashes his face-down opponent with right hands until referee John McCarthy stops the fight. Cain Velasquez picks up an impressive first-round finish, his first win since October 2013.

The Official Result

Cain Velasquez def. Travis Browne via TKO (Punches) R1 4:57

UFC 145-Pound Interim Title Fight:
Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar

Round 1

England’s Marc Goddard is the referee for the first of tonight’s title fights, this for the vacant interim featherweight belt. Aldo circles his lead hand as he steps backward, looking to counter Edgar with straight rights as they circle in the opening minute. Edgar flicks out punches but can’t find the mark early against the backpedaling former champion. Leg kicks begin to land for Edgar, but Aldo’s evasiveness is making it difficult for “The Answer” to score with punches. Aldo gains back some ground with a short left hook, now a counter right as they hit the midway point of round one. Edgar dives under a combination and tries a takedown, but he’s denied by the Brazilian. The fighters clash on simultaneous back-kicks in the final minute. Edgar continues to press forward and walks into a leaping knee, then gets dropped with a left hook from Aldo in the last 10 seconds. Aldo tries to chase him down with more punches, but he runs out of time.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Edgar
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-10
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Aldo

Round 2

Edgar touches Aldo’s face with a crisp left hand in an otherwise uneventful opening minute to the round. Aldo gets through with a knee to the body; Edgar catches the leg and tries to run “Scarface” against the fence, but Aldo tosses him to the floor and circles away. Aldo sends a right hand down the middle, blocks a high kick and then backs up as Edgar swings and misses with a bunch of punches. Edgar grabs for a single-leg, but again Aldo is able to sidestep it and push the New Jerseyan to the mat. Edgar is controlling the cage, moving Aldo around the outside, but neither man is taking charge of the fight with offense. Now it’s Aldo in the middle, backing up to dodge another combo and dinging Edgar with a right-handed counter. Another right hand lands for Aldo, who’s catching Edgar coming inside with some regularity now. Edgar eats a pair of jabs, puts a kick on Aldo’s lead leg and tries for another takedown. Aldo shoves him to the mat once more and backs up as time expires.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Aldo
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Aldo
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Aldo

Round 3

Edgar pushes forward again at the start of round three, continuing to chop at Aldo’s left leg with kicks to the outside. Aldo snuffs out another takedown attempt but takes a left hand to the face on the break. Edgar comes back to pin the Brazilian on the cage with an underhook; Aldo stays standing with a wide base at the fence but he’s absorbing knee to the legs while Edgar holds him there. Referee Goddard calls for work, and the featherweights split with just over three minutes on the clock. Edgar connects with a short left hook, gets pushed back with a body kick, and now the 145ers reset in the center. A hard, straight right snaps back Edgar’s head, but he keeps coming forward. Aldo makes him pay with a jump knee that sends Edgar scrambling for a takedown on the fence. Edgar still can’t bring Aldo to the ground, and they separate to spend the final 50 seconds circling.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Aldo
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Aldo
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Aldo

Round 4

The championship rounds begin with more of the same from rounds previous: Aldo on his back foot, circling his lead hand and waiting for Edgar to burst forward with some offense. Edgar makes a few half-hearted grabs for Aldo’s legs, but he’s turned away each time. Leg kicks are still working for Edgar, who’s beginning to mix in body punches here in the fourth. Aldo takes the center and follows Edgar around the edge, zapping him with a few straight right hands. Edgar’s face is bloodied, plasma leaking from his nose and right eye, as he’s clipped with a counter right hook in an exchange. Now it’s Edgar back in the middle, but Aldo plays the matador and ducks underneath the American’s next charge. Another stiff jab rocks Edgar’s head backward, and Aldo sidesteps again to make him whiff on a big overhand right. Aldo counters a left body kick beautifully with a pinpoint jab that nearly takes out Edgar’s legs in the closing seconds.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Aldo
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Aldo
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Aldo

Round 5

Aldo returns to his back foot and circles to his left around the outside, causing Edgar to drop his hands in frustration after 30 seconds of fruitless chasing. Edgar lands a leg kick, shadow-boxes toward Aldo but still can’t connect with any punches in the first 90 seconds. Edgar finally gets a left hand through, but a moment later, he’s tagged and stumbled with a counter right. Aldo is playing it safe here, not doing much but avoiding Edgar’s offensive bursts. The Brazilian brushes off an Edgar takedown try, then a clinch attempt. Edgar is streaming blood from his right eye now, but it looks to be running along the outside and not impeding his vision. With 90 seconds left, “The Answer” is still looking for a solution, still loading up on punches as he charges toward Aldo, who continually circles away from the former lightweight champ. Edgar waves for Aldo to engage, but the final 20 seconds tick away without incident; after five rounds, this one will be decided by the judges.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Aldo (49-46 Aldo)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-10 (50-47 Aldo)
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Aldo (50-45 Aldo)

Daniel Cormier vs. Anderson Silva

Round 1

Silva circles to his left around the edge of the cage while Cormier presses out from the center, trying to close the gap on the Brazilian with kicks. Cormier soon gets inside, grabs hold of “The Spider” and pulls him to the floor shortly befoer the first minute expires. Silva tries to prevent ground-and-pound by wrapping up Cormier in a tight guard, but the light heavyweight champ staples Silva’s face to the ground with a few good punches and stiff elbow strikes. Punches and elbows continue to score for “DC,” but Silva eats the shots as he continues to shift underneath. Working from half guard, Cormier bangs on Silva’s head and body with right hands as they enter the final two minutes of the round. Cormier grabs for a kimura, can’t get hold of Silva’s arm and settles instead for frustrating the middleweight legend with a hand over the mouth.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-8 Cormier
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Cormier
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Cormier

Round 2

Silva tries to keep Cormier at bay with long punches in the first 30 seconds, but as soon as the Brazilian throws a body kick, Cormier snatches it up and runs him back to the canvas. It’s more ground-and-pound from Cormier now, constantly grinding and slamming Silva’s head on the mat while working from half guard. Cormier briefly considers an arm-triangle choke, releases and resumes driving elbows into the side of Silva’s head. Cormier goes body-head with the right hand, then an elbow to the jaw, with Silva squirming all the while, trapped underneath the wrestler. Referee John McCarthy orders the fighters back to their feet with 90 seconds left in the frame. Cormier checks a leg kick, backs Silva up to the fence and slugs him with a right hand down the middle. Silva is doing the same routine as in his fight with Michael Bisping, allowing himself to be pushed backward to the wall, threatening to counter, but never letting his hands fly.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Cormier
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Cormier
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Cormier

Round 3

Silva tries to get something going early in the final round, faking a leg kick and then firing off a left high kick, but Cormier gets an arm up to block. Cormier does well to evade some flashy standing elbows and knees to the body as he ducks inside to single-leg Silva to the ground once again. Cormier is back on top, working from half guard with four minutes remaining in the fight, but his offense isn’t flowing as freely now as it did in rounds prior. Still, the American Kickboxing Academy fighter is roughing up Silva with body shots and left hands to the face, maintaining heavy top pressure to make sure Silva stays on his back. Referee McCarthy looks like he’s considering another stand-up order, and he does bring the fighters back to their feet inside the two-minute mark. Cormier and Silva shake out their arms and take a short breather as they circle one another in the center. With 30 seconds left, Silva appears to hurt Cormier with a liver kick, but when “The Spider” rushes in to try and capitalize, Cormier spins him against the fence with an underhook.

Brock Lesnar vs. Mark Hunt

Round 1

Hunt takes the center of the cage while Lesnar moves in angles around the outside, keeping a wide stance with his left hand outstretched. Lesnar opens his account with a leg kick and hops backward when Hunt threatens to counter with a right hand. The former champ ducks under Hunt’s next overhand right, then Lesnar slips to the canvas as he bites on a feint. Lesnar shoots for Hunt’s legs, drives him to the fence and dumps him to the floor, feeding the “Super Samoan” a couple right hands as they stand back up. Lesnar keeps Hunt pinned to the wall with another double-leg attempt, switches to a single and drags him to the ground again. Now it’s side control for Lesnar, leaning right to left across Hunt’s body and framing up a kimura. Hunt rolls the other way and gets to his knees, but he’s held there as Lesnar puts his weight on top of the Kiwi. Lesnar begins to find a home for some hard punches, and Hunt has to escape to his feet in a hurry. Chasing him against the fence, Lesnar pulls out Hunt’s legs and floors him once more, mounting him at the end of the round.

Sherdog Scores

Brian Knapp scores the round 10-9 Lesnar
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Lesnar
Mike Sloan scores the round 10-9 Lesnar

Round 2

Lesnar backs away as round two begins, but he gets Hunt to think twice by faking a double-leg shot. The outstretched hand and pawing jabs of Lesnar are preventing Hunt from stepping into striking range through the first 90 seconds of the frame. Two minutes in, Lesnar dives for a takedown and comes up empty. Hunt turns away another shot and continues to march Lesnar around the outside, still waiting for an opening. Hunt telegraphs a big right hand, allowing Lesnar to duck underneath and shoot, but again Hunt is able to stuff it. Hunt finally gets near Lesnar on the fence, but the WWE superstar shoves him off with a palm to the face. Lesnar drops levels again, can’t get the takedown and winds up holding Hunt on the wall with an underhook as the last 40 seconds of the round tick away.

Round 3

Hunt snaps off a few good jabs and grazes Lesnar’s temple with a right hand before “The Beast” gets hold of Hunt’s legs and plows him to the floor. Fighting at the base of the fence, Lesnar drops left hands on Hunt’s face from deep half guard, his left foot still trapped by Hunt’s legs. Hunt tries to strike back from the bottom, but Lesnar is clearly getting the better of it from top position. Hunt rolls onto his right side, putting a glove up to protect his face, but Lesnar’s punches are still slamming through. Now it’s full mount for Lesnar with just over two minutes left to fight. Lesnar loops his left arm around Hunt’s head to tee him up for right hands, all the while pressing his weight down on the Kiwi puncher. Lesnar thuds Hunt’s forehead with a dozen right hands as time continues to run off the clock. Back to half guard goes Lesnar, and he finishes the fight there, grinding away with short strikes on the lumped-up Hunt.

UFC 135-Pound Women's Title Fight:
Miesha Tate vs. Amanda Nunes

Round 1

Herb Dean is the referee for tonight’s main event, with judges Adalaide Byrd, Chris Lee and Jeff Mullen scoring at cageside. The challenger Nunes strikes first with a hard kick to the outside of Tate’s lead leg, then beats the champ to the punch in an exchange of right hands. Tate circles a bit and then dives for a takedown, but as soon as Nunes hits the floor, she springs back to her feet. The fighters reset in the center and continue circling, with Nunes denying a Tate clinch attempt. Tate tries again and gets hurled to the ground, then narrowly dodges a knee to the face as she stands. Nunes’ jab is working early, and now she slugs down the center with a pair of right hands that get Tate backing away. Nunes follows her, gets Tate bending over with a body shot and then clips her with a right hand to the face. Tate stumbles to the ground but regains her footing and goes back to circling the outside. Tate is clearly hurt here, her face bloodied just three minutes into the opening round. She grabs for Nunes’ legs but winds up face-down on the floor, and Nunes immediately moves to take her back. Nunes slips in a rear-naked choke and rolls Tate over. Nunes’ arm isn’t under the chin, but the pressure on Tate’s throat from her own neck is enough to force a tap. Amanda Nunes scores an upset submission in the first round to become the new UFC women’s bantamweight champion.

The Official Result

Amanda Nunes def. Miesha Tate via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R1 3:16
