Tim Means Accepts 6-Month Suspension from USADA for Tainted Supplement

UFC welterweight Tim Means has accepted a six-month suspension stemming from an anti-doping violation for a tainted supplement, USADA announced Friday.

The suspension is retroactive to Feb. 3, when Means was flagged as a result of an out-of-competition test. “The Dirty Bird” was provisionally suspended and removed from his Feb. 21 headlining bout against Donald Cerrone at UFC Fight Night in Pittsburgh.

It was later revealed that Means tested positive on Jan. 21 for the banned substance ostarine, a selective androgen receptor modulator that can aid steroid-like muscle growth without the side effects. “The Dirty Bird” initially faced a two-year suspension, but the sanctions were reduced when it was determined that the positive test came as a result of a tainted supplement.

Means last competed at UFC Fight Night 80 in Las Vegas, where he scored a second-round knockout of John Howard on Dec. 10. The FIT-NHB representative has won five of his last six fights in the Octagon.
