Brave Combat Federation returned to Kazakhstan with an event that saw Tae Kyun Kim remain unbeaten thanks to his superior striking acumen.

In the Brave CF 53 headliner, Kim (9-0, 4-0 Brave) imposed his will against Nurzhan Akishev (11-4, 0-2 Brave). Akishev wobbled “Ares” early in the first frame, following his jab with a well-placed overhand. “Bizon” then swarmed his opponent with punches and threw Kim on the mat, but the South Korean fighter recovered from the shot and was able to return to his feet. “Ares” recomposed himself and stayed out of his opponent’s range while retaliating with plenty of punches of his own. Midway through the round, Kim began to look more comfortable with his combinations. Meanwhile, Akishev went headhunting in pursuit of the finish, but “Ares” was able to avoid serious damage while tagging his adversary with a stinging jab and knees in the clinch before the end of the round.

In the second frame, Kim’s striking clinic began to take toll on the “Bizon,” as Akishev’s nose wore the damage from his opponent’s assault. Despite Akishev’s takedown attempts, Kim kept the clash on the feet, where he proved that he was the better fighter. Midway through the second stanza, the blood on Akishev’s face forced the referee to call for a check from the cageside physicians, an intervention that allowed the Kazakhstani fighter to catch his breath. When the action resumed, Kim continued to punish Akishev with punches and was moments from ending the battle with a series of vicious knees to the head from the clinch in the final seconds of the second stanza.

Round 3 saw the South Korean fighter keep the “Bizon” at bay with his jab for the majority of the frame. Ultimately, Kim received scorecards of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 from the judges, taking home a well-deserved unanimous decision victory.

The co-main event saw Vasiliy Takhtay (9-0, 1-0 Brave) make a successful promotional debut after overcoming Roger Sampaio (9-2, 0-1 Brave) in a 160-pound catchweight bout. It looked like the night was going to belong to “Naruto” from the outset of the fight, as Takhtay had no difficulties taking his opponent down. After Sampaio made his way back up, the Brazilian ate a hard left kick to the liver that nearly ended the clash. Takhtay rushed forward to put his hands on the visibly shaken Sampaio, landing with a plethora of punches before putting his opponent back on the mat, which allowed Sampaio to recover from the shot and survive to hear the first-round bell.

In the second, Takhtay landed a few combinations before shooting for a takedown. While the attempt turned out to be unsuccessful, it allowed “Naruto” push his opponent against the fence, from where he struck with a series of punches followed by a couple of knees to the head, one of which looked to land while Sampaio was grounded. The referee didn’t intervene and “Naruto” multiplied his punches until he knocked his opponent down with another knee. From there, Takhtay rushed to capture his opponent’s back before sinking in the rear-naked choke that forced Sampaio to tap at the 1:24 mark of Round 2.

Elsewhere, Assu Almabaev (13-2, 1-0 Brave) forced Alexander Doskalchuk (11-3, 0-1 Brave) to tap to a rear-naked choke at the 3:47 mark of the second stanza of their 125-pound feature; Olzhas Eskaraev (10-4, 1-0 Brave) scored the biggest upset of the night after stepping up on short notice to submit former Ultimate Fighting Championship competitor Lucas Martins (20-6, 2-3 Brave) thanks to rear-naked choke 2:49 into Round 2 of a 163-pound catchweight affair; UFC alum Brad Katona (10-2, 2-0 Brave) outwrestled Bair Shtepin (9-5, 1-2 Brave) en route to a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at bantamweight; Azat Maksum (13-0, 2-0 Brave) rendered Flavio de Queiroz (12-4, 1-2 Brave) unconscious with a vicious right hand that stopped their flyweight contest at 3:00 of Round 1.

In the first fight on the main card, Akhmed Magomedov (8-0, 4-0 1NC Brave) upended Ilyar Askhanov (9-4, 0-1 Brave) via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) in their 150-pound catchweight matchup.
