"This might surprise a lot of people, even my family and friends," Gamburyan said. "It's been tough, this has been a long road, this is my first time being in Brazil. I had a great time, but, I think this is it for me, guys. I'm going to call it a career, probably.”

The 35-year-old Gamburyan lost to Eduardo via technical knockout 46 seconds into the second round of their bantamweight encounter at Ibirapuera Gymnasium. If his decision holds up, “The Anvil” will exit the sport with a 15-10 record, including a 6-8 mark with one no contest during a pair of stints in the Octagon.

Gamburyan reached the finals of “The Ultimate Fighter 5,” falling to Nate Diaz after suffering a shoulder injury in the second round of their bout. Gamburyan also had a brief stint in World Extreme Cagefighting, where he fell to Jose Aldo via second-round knockout in a featherweight title bout in September 2010. Gamburyan owns wins over the likes of Scott Jorgensen, Cole Miller, Michihiro Omigawa, Mike Thomas Brown, Leonard Garcia and Jorge Santiago over the course of his professional tenure.

“I've been in this for a long time, tough times. I always thought about, this is my last one, this is my last one,” he said. “After I moved to 135, it became tougher. There are a lot of great guys out there, and I feel that I can't take them anymore. And if I can't take them, I don't want to compete anymore.”
