Surging Flyweight C.J. Hamilton Downs Jesse Bazzi in Legacy Fighting Alliance 8 Main Event

C.J. Hamilton made the most of his time on the Legacy Fighting Alliance marquee.

Hamilton extended his winning streak to six fights with a unanimous decision over Michigan Top Team’s Jesse Bazzi in the Legacy Fighting Alliance 8 headliner on Friday at the TD Convention Center in Greenville, South Carolina. All three judges scored it 30-27 (online sportsbooks).

A two-time national wrestling champion at Anderson University, Hamilton kept his opponent at bay with kicks to the legs and body, incorporated a second-round takedown, profited from the chaotic standup exchanges he created and proved quicker on the trigger with his punches. He even found time to mix in jumping knee, an axe kick and a spinning back fist.

In the welterweight co-main event, Bellator MMA veteran Jeremie Holloway wiped out journeyman Dave Vitkay with first-round punches. Vitkay succumbed to blows 2:55 into Round 1, his run of seven consecutive victories at an end.

Holloway popped “The A-Town Ogre” with a stinging jab, tore into him with multi-punch combinations and denied his bids for takedowns. Trapped on the feet, Vitkay was a fish in a barrel. Holloway dropped him with a clean straight left midway through the first round and swarmed with punches and hammerfists. Vitkay returned to an upright position, only to be met with a volley of power punches that sent him back to the canvas and prompted referee Blake Grice to intervene on his behalf.

The win snapped a two-fight losing streak for Holloway.

Meanwhile, once-beaten prospect Jared Scoggins rebounded from his first professional defeat and laid claim to a unanimous decision against Juan Puerta in an uneventful three-round flyweight showcase. All three cageside judges struck 30-27 scorecards for the 22-year-old South Carolinian, the younger brother of Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight Justin Scoggins.

Puerta was ineffective and seemed ill-equipped to deal with his clinch-minded counterpart. Scoggins pressed his interests in close quarters, as he repeatedly trapped the American Top Team Atlanta export against the fence while piling up points with knees, elbows and short punches. Bleeding from a cut above his right eye, Puerta sank deeper into the quicksand and appeared resigned to the outcome.

In other action, Keith Richards eked out a split decision -- 28-29, 29-28, 29-28 -- over Jon Queiroz in a 15-minute featherweight battle; Joe Elmore submitted Ryan Jett with a kneebar 3:05 into the third round of their pairing at 155 pounds; John Sweeney submitted Jon Sparks with a rear-naked choke 2:45 into the first round of their featherweight scrap; and Alexa Conners took a unanimous decision from the battered and bloodied Calie Cutler in a three-round catchweight clash at 140 pounds, drawing 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 nods on the scorecards.
