Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Renato “Babalu”
Sobral pocketed an event-high $100,000 in his unanimous
decision victory over Robbie
Lawler in the Strikeforce “Los Angeles” headliner on June 16 at
the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
Lawler, the one-time EliteXC middleweight champion, banked $85,000, according to figures released on Tuesday by the California State Athletic Commission.
Sobral, who bounced back from his first-round technical knockout
loss to Gegard
Mousasi, won for the sixth time in seven appearances. The
34-year-old Brazilian attacked Lawler’s legs and body with kicks,
as he earned a unanimous verdict from the judges. Scores were 29-28
across the board.
Meanwhile, Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos took a $10,000 haul for his first-round technical knockout against Dream welterweight champion Marius Zaromskis. The 32-year-old Santos, husband of Strikeforce women’s champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, has rattled off back-to-back wins since his split decision defeat to Joey Villasenor a year ago. Zaromskis earned $5,000 for a rough night’s work.
