Showtime Exec Denies Cutting McGregor’s Microphone During Press Conference in Los Angeles

During Ultimate Fighting Championship press conferences, Conor McGregor is known for holding court even when the spotlight is supposed to be on his opponent.

However, “The Notorious” one was unable to respond to most of Floyd Mayweather’s verbal jabs during a press conference at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday, as it appeared that his microphone was cut off as the undefeated boxer took center stage.

That prompted McGregor to issue a ‘F—k Showtime’ statement during a media scrum following the press conference. Prior to Wednesday’s press conference in Toronto, Showtime Sports vice president issued a statement denying that McGregor’s microphone was silenced during the proceedings.

“At no point did Showtime or event productions cut any microphones intentionally during Tuesday’s kickoff event in Los Angeles,” Espinoza said. “The point of this world tour is to let these superstars interact with the fans and with each other. Cutting their mics would go against our goal of delivering these fighters to the masses and letting their charismatic and entertaining personalities take center stage.”

After Toronto, the Mayweather-McGregor promotional tour will head Brooklyn, N.Y., on Thursday before concluding in London on Friday. Mayweather and McGregor will square off at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Aug. 26.
