Sensational Reina Cordoba Armbar Submits Zoila Frausto in Combate 41 Main Event
Reina
Cordoba appears to have mastered the unconventional.
The once-beaten Costa Rican submitted former Bellator MMA champion Zoila Frausto with a spectacular armbar in the first round of their Combate Americas 41 headliner on Friday at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California. Frausto (14-6, 1-1 Combate) conceded defeat 2:32 into Round 1, closing the book on her modest two-fight winning streak.
Cordoba (10-1, 1-0 Combate) pinned the “Warrior Princess” along the
fence, executed a head-and-arm throw and immediately trapped the
Californian’s right arm between her legs in a modified crucifix.
She then extended her hips, bent Frausto’s limb beyond its bounds
and prompted the tapout.
In the co-main event, J.C. Llamas (9-7, 1-1 Combate) cut down journeyman Ivan Castillo with punches in the second round of their encounter at a 175-pound catchweight. Castillo (16-12, 0-1 Combate) succumbed to blows 1:38 into Round 1, as he suffered his fourth defeat in five appearances.
Meanwhile, Jesse Strader (5-1, 3-1 Combate) authored one of the year’s best knockouts when he leveled Isaiah Batin-Gonzalez with a left hook in the first round of their bantamweight showcase. Batin-Gonzalez (3-1, 0-1 Combate) bowed out 1:56 into Round 1.
In other action, Adrian Guzman (5-1) took a unanimous decision from Cesar Gonzalez (1-4) in a three-round lightweight clash, drawing 30-27 marks from all three judges; Albert Gonzales (1-0) put away Havier Pedroza (0-2) with punches 4:53 into the first round of their confrontation at a 180-pound catchweight; Jose Avalos (3-2) submitted Trey Branch (2-4) with a rear-naked choke 1:59 into the first round of their bantamweight tilt; Paul Elizondo Jr. (2-0) submitted Mike Tubera (0-1) with a rear-naked choke 4:59 into the first round of their flyweight pairing; Dan Argueta (2-0) submitted Christian Hermosillo (0-1) with a rear-naked choke 1:52 into the first round of their encounter at a 150-pound catchweight; and Daniel Oseguera (1-1) laid claim to a unanimous decision over Austin Liu (0-1) in a three-round bantamweight battle, earning 29-28 scores on all three judges’ cards.
